New Infiniti Sedan Concept Teased Ahead Of Detroit Debut

Image
Infiniti has dropped the first teaser image of a brand new concept which will preview the company’s new design language. The Japanese company says that the sedan concept will be the “first manifestation” of Infiniti’s new design direction. “The new Infiniti concept car will take the traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution,” said Karim Habib, Infiniti’s Executive Design Director. A shift toward smarter, more compact and less intrusive powertrains; we were able to create an alternative form with flowing gestures, more engaging in character and more enriching in experience.” “With its long cabin, balanced proportions and muscular stance, the concept heralds in a new era for Infiniti models,” he added. According to the latest reports, Infiniti’s new concept will have the form of a flagship sedan that will mix sporty design language with new technologies, but we still don’t know if the company will indeed be previewing a new flagship model. The company has

McLaren Confirms Testing EV Supercar, Production Model Still Years Away

Image
McLaren aren’t ditching the idea of developing a zero-emission hypercar, but the road to get there is very demanding and the current battery technology isn’t helping them, either. Nevertheless, Woking has an all-electric mule out there, as confirmed to Autocar by the company's engineering design director Dan Parry-Williams. "We've got a pure EV mule, and part of the reason for that is to ask how we can deliver driver engagement in a fully electric world. But there's still quite a journey from here to there, in terms of our products", Parry-Williams said. The McLaren exec added that, despite the investment made "into energy-dense batteries rather than power density", the current technology remains the biggest challenge when developing a high-performance electric vehicle. "Let's say you want to drive on track for half an hour. If that was an EV, that car would have over 500 miles of (road) EV range, and it would be flat as a pancake at

Morgan’s Electric EV3 Finally Going Into Production In 2018

Image
Morgan is going to start producing the electric version of its popular 3 Wheeler, the EV3, in the third quarter of 2018 at their factory in Worcestershire, UK. Mixing retro looks with modern technologies, the upcoming Morgan EV3 will ditch the 80hp V-twin engine of the normal 3 Wheeler for the sake of a 56hp electric motor and a 21kWh battery pack. The driving range is expected to be 120 miles on a full charge, Autocar reports. First seen at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Morgan EV3 will tip the scales at less than 500kg (1,102lbs), despite the heavy electric powertrain and battery pack. This makes the EV3 even lighter than the petrol-powered 3 Wheeler, with Morgan using carbon composite body panels for the first time. The small electric British three-wheeled sports car will offer a 0-62mph in less than 9 seconds and a top speed of over 90mph. These figures may sound underwhelming but judging by the very positive response to the similarly potent 3 Wheeler, Morgan’s first prod

All-Wheel Drive Now Standard On All Tesla Model S and X Vehicles

Image
Tesla has announced that all new Model S and Model X vehicles will now come equipped with all-wheel drive as standard. It was only three years ago that Tesla first unveiled its dual-motor setup after Elon Musk shared a mysterious teaser image on his Twitter. Since then, an increasing number of Tesla Model S and Model X variants have been introduced with all-wheel drive straight out of the box. All-wheel drive has also allowed the two vehicles to redefine the boundaries of production car acceleration. It’s therefore of little surprise that in its December newsletter, Tesla has decided to announce that it will ditch rear-wheel drive variants of the Model S and Model X. In the newsletter, the automaker pinpoints the improved traction and all-weather usability of all-wheel drive as its key benefits, although we’re sure the added straight-line performance provided by dual electric motors has helped convince Tesla of its superiority over rear-wheel drive. Also, the lack of rear-wh

New Honda Insight Prototype Previews 2019 Model, Debuts In Detroit

Image
The Honda Insight prototype will make its global debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January, previewing a more upscale production model set to arrive next summer. As you can see, the Insight will move on from its "quirky hatchback" roots and become a five-passenger sedan, taking its place above the Civic in the Japanese automaker's passenger car lineup. "With its sophisticated styling, dynamic stance, ample interior space and best-in-class performance, the all-new Insight embodies Honda's approach to creating electrified vehicles without the typical tradeoffs," said Honda exec, Henio Arcangeli Jr. "You won't have to be an electrification advocate to appreciate the new Insight - it's a great car in its own right, independent of what's happening under the hood." Compared to the old Insight, the all-new 2019 model features new styling, new packaging, premium features and improved performance, according to Honda. It wi

Jeep Bringing Updated 2019 Cherokee To Detroit

Image
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has announced it will unveil a refreshed take on the Jeep Cherokee at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show next month. The automaker isn't giving much in the way of details to go on. But along with these four images, it has confirmed that the 2019 Cherokee will encompass a more athletic yet upscale design and more efficient powertrain options. Jeep introduced the current KL-generation Cherokee in 2013 as a 2014 model with a far more crossover-like form than the rugged versions that preceded it under the same nameplate. That may have left it out of favor with the most hardcore off-roading enthusiasts, but has resulted in sales figures roughly double those of the more trucklike Liberty it replaced. From 2014 (when production came fully online) to 2016 (the last full year of sales), Jeep sold an average of 200,000 Cherokees in the United States each year. Over the course of its lifetime from 2001 through 2013, it sold an annual average of under 100,00

Lexus Drops Another LF-1 Concept Teaser Ahead Of Detroit Unveiling

Image
The Lexus LF-1 concept will arrive at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show in January to preview the automaker's new flagship SUV. In a previous teaser, we saw a little bit of its sloped rear end, which features a continuous light strip hugging the tailgate as well as some of the rear bumper and fenders. We also know that the LF-1 was designed in Southern California at the CALTY design studio, and that it will represent the next step in the Japanese automaker's current design language. This latest teaser shows a partially lit front fascia, with pointy and aggressive-looking LED daytime running lights and a backlit badge in the middle of the grille, which may turn out to be just as massive as the one on the all-new LS saloon. The LF-1 will be unveiled on January 15, at approximately 8:35 AM EST (1:35 PM GMT) in Detroit, and the entire event will be streamed online. Carscoops

BMW Teases X7 Flagship SUV As First Pre-Production Models Roll Off The Line

Image
BMW’s Spartanburg plant has started churning out the first pre-production examples of the upcoming X7 full-size luxury SUV. The Bavarian car maker is now putting the X7 through its final stages of development, with the production version expected to hit the market at the end of 2018. “This is a very special vehicle and our employees are looking forward to yet a further member of the X family,” said Knudt Flor, head of the BMW Group Spartanburg plant. “Together with the BMW X7, a total of five BMW X models will be exported from Spartanburg to all four corners of the globe.” The pre-production examples of the BMW X7 will be used for homologation and registration, as well as for endurance tests in extreme weather conditions. The production of the pre-production models also serves as a test for the Spartanburg plant, helping them optimise the future series production of the X7. Cars will remain camouflaged with a striped-pattern wrap in a bid to hide the Bavarian flagship SUV

This Is The All-New 2019 Hyundai Veloster!

Image
While it will retain the first-generation model's overall shape, the all-new Hyundai Veloster is clearly trying to look slightly more aggressive and less quirky. Ever since we saw it rocking that colorful camo back in November, we immediately noticed the new grille, the different LED DRLs and even a new bumper design with vertical air intakes. Now, since we can look at it without anything distracting us from its design, we can back up those impressions from a few weeks ago, while adding that the running lights look a little BMW-ish. Also, the overall shape of the headlights is a complete departure from what he saw on the old car. The new headlights are a lot smaller and indeed, less quirky than before, and the rear end looks more conventional. Speaking of the rear, while initially we thought that the bumper would protrude a bit further out from the tailgate, that doesn't seem to be the case - although some of these images aren't exactly crystal clear.

NIO ES8 Detailed, Boasts 643 HP And A 220 Mile Range

Image
NIO stunned everyone when its EP9 set a Nürburgring lap record earlier this year and now the company is moving onto more traditional fare by detailing its ES8 crossover. Unveiled earlier this year, the ES8 is a "high performance electric SUV" that features a bold design which will likely provoke strong reactions. While its styling won't win everyone over, NIO says the model has an all-aluminum body and chassis as well as the "highest amount of aluminum for any mass production car." The seven-seat interior is decidedly more appealing as it features high quality materials and advanced technology. Notable highlights include Nappa leather upholstery, a digital instrument cluster, and a large infotainment system with a portrait orientation. Owners will also find a front "lounge seat" and an air quality system that includes an activated carbon and HEPA filter as well as a negative ion generator. Motivation is provided by two electric motors which

BMW To Stage World Debuts Of The X2 And i8 Coupe In Detroit

Image
The North American International Auto Show is less than a month away and BMW has announced plans to stage the world debuts of the X2 and i8 Coupe in the Motor City. Starting with the X2, the model is based on the X1 but it eschews crossover-inspired styling for a funkier design that resembles a high-riding hatchback. In the United States, power will be provided by a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine that produces 228 hp (170 kW) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. This will enable the X2 xDrive28i to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds before hitting a top speed of up to 143 mph (230 km/h). Moving on to the i8 Coupe, the model follows in the footsteps of the i8 Roadster which was recently unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It features an updated powertrain with an improved lithium-ion battery which has a capacity of 11.6 kWh. The car has also been equipped with a more powerful three-cylinder engine and electric motor which helps to increase its maximum output

Subaru Says Next WRX Will Look Like Viziv Concept

Image
Subaru says that the next-generation WRX will bear a close resemblance to the Viziv Performance concept unveiled a couple of months ago. Speaking with Autocar, Subaru design chief Mamoru Ishii said that the positive reception to the Viziv has encouraged the carmaker not to mess with the design significantly when the next WRX hits the road. “Such a car brings lots of expectation, from within the company and from our customers. What we know is that our customers’ lifestyles are changing and we have to respond to that. The question was whether we have done that in a correct way with this concept. “For instance, we know that autonomous and connective technology are coming, and for many customers that is great, but we don’t think that is what all of our customers want. For some, driving pleasure is still very important and that is what we are exploring,” Ishii said. According to Ishii, customers can expect to see the next WRX adopting a similar body shape, bold arches, and bonnet

2019 Chevrolet Silverado Unveiled Ahead Of Detroit Debut

Image
Chevrolet has unveiled the all-new 2019 Silverado ahead of its official debut at the North American International Auto Show. Shown in the truck's new Trailboss trim, the images reveal the 2019 Silverado has an evolutionary front fascia with a squared off appearance which hints at its rugged capabilities. Chevrolet is keeping details under wraps but we can see the truck features LED headlights, a massive grille, and distinctive LED daytime running lights. Moving further back, the Silverado eschews the bulging fender flares of its predecessor for new bodywork which incorporates gentle creases and strong character lines. The styling changes continue out back as the Silverado adopts a new tailgate which has massive "Chevrolet" lettering. Other notable changes include new taillights, a dual exhaust system, and a rear bumper with integrated steps. We can expect to learn more about the truck next month but it appears the Trailboss variant will feature black acce

Facelifted Buick Envision Revealed With Updated Styling And New 9-Speed Transmission

Image
Introduced late last month, the updated model features a modestly revised front fascia with a “flying-wing” grille that echoes newer models such as the Encore, Enclave, and Lacrosse. Designers also installed a sportier front bumper and additional chrome trim. The styling changes continue at the rear as the Envision has been equipped with new bodywork and restyled LED taillights. Buick says these changes help to give the rear end a "more three-dimensional" appearance. Interior changes are relatively minor as the model has been equipped with an updated infotainment system that allows users to enjoy online entertainment features - such as Kaola FM internet radio and the NetEase music cloud - through an app. Under the hood, two engines will be available. The entry-level model has a turbocharged 1.5-liter unit that produces 166 hp (124 kW) 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque. Customers can also order an updated turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 256 hp (191 kW

Toyota Gazoo Super Sport Concept Teased Ahead Of Tokyo Debut

Image
While the world is still waiting for the new Supra to finally break cover, Toyota has dropped a teaser for a new Super Sport Concept coming from its performance Gazoo Racing department. The new supercar concept will debut at the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon as a Le Mans-inspired flagship of the GR range. Toyota says that the concept will exhibit how they can apply the lessons learned from their participation in the WEC racing series to a car for the street, with the single teaser image revealing a pretty hardcore automobile. So far there’s no official information on whether Toyota is actually thinking of putting a car like the upcoming Super Sport Concept into production, leading us to believe that this is still to be decided. The new supercar concept will debut on January 12 at the Tokyo Auto Salon, along with Toyota’s new WEC racers and production models such as the Toyota 86 GR and the Vitz GRMN. Carscoops

Brazil and AC Milan Legend Kaka Retires From Football

Image
Brazil legend Kaka has announced his retirement from football, ending speculation over his future following his exit from MLS side Orlando City earlier in 2017. The star playmaker took to Twitter and Instagram Sunday to post his goodbye to the sport. Kaka, 35, brings to an end an impressive career spanning from 2001 to 2017, and saw him win a World Cup with Brazil, Serie A and Champions League titles with A.C. Milan. In addition he won the Ballon d'Or in 2007 — the last person other than Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi to take home the award. Kaka got his start with Brazilian giants Sao Paulo, before moving to Milan in 2003. There he emerged as one of the world's best and helped the club to a Serie A title in 2003-04, a Champions League final appearance in 2004-05 and finally the European crown itself in 2006-07. He would later turn down the opportunity to join Manchester City in a £100 million transfer, and instead joined Real Madrid. There he would not quite reac

MINI Cars Getting New Simplified Logo In 2018

Image
The BMW Group's MINI brand has revealed a new logo, one which it says, combines "an awareness of traditional values" with "the spirit of future-oriented development". The new MINI logo will be visible on the firm's entire lineup from March 2018 onward. The automaker hasn't dramatically changed the design, as they took the current logo and simplified it, in a 2D version, with their name written in uppercase letters in the middle of a circle, flanked by restyled wings. This combination dates back to the early years of the classic Mini, and combines brand's traditional values with the modern era, which began in November 2000 under the BMW Group's ownership, when the MINI as we have come to know it celebrated its public premiere. Although the automaker doesn’t say it, there's a very good chance that the minimalist logo marks a new beginning for the company, one where 'electrification' is the key word, and product expansion their

2018 Kia Ray Facelift Unveiled In South Korea

Image
Following a preview earlier this month, Kia has officially unveiled the updated Ray in South Korea. Looking instantly recognizable, the facelifted model has a new front fascia with a revised grille, circular fog lights, and restyled headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. The Ray has also been equipped with a modified rear bumper, updated taillights, and new 15-inch alloy wheels. A variety of customization options will be available including contrasting colors for the roof, grille, mirror caps, and tailgate appliqué. The interior largely carries over but drivers will find a new three-spoke steering wheel, a revised gear knob, and additional metallic accents. The Ray also offers a seven-inch infotainment system as well as an assortment of options such as mood lighting and color contrasting floor mats. Speaking of options, the Ray will be available with a pet-friendly package that includes a removable cage, a rear seat cover, and a "fence" that

Half A Million Hyundai And Kia Models Recalled Over Brake Light Issue

Image
Over half a million Hyundai and Kia models are being recalled in the United States due to faulty brake lights. According to The Detroit News, 390,000 Hyundai Elantras built between 2013 and 2014, and over 134,000 Kia Fortes from 2012 through 2014, have been recalled as the brake lights may not go out when the pedal is released. Government documents reveal that the polymer stopper pad between the brake pedal arm and the light switch can deteriorate, thus allowing the switch to stay on even when the pedal isn’t depressed. This fault also means the driver can shift out of Park without applying the brakes. To fix the issue, dealerships will replace the brake stopper pad. Kia’s recall will commence on January 30 while Hyundai’s will kick off on February 8. Carscoops

LG claims its new Gram laptops have ‘full day’ battery life

Image
LG is announcing its refreshed range of its thin and light Gram laptops today, ahead of CES next month. LG is introducing three refreshed versions of the Gram, in 13.3-, 14-, and 15-inch models. The 2018 Gram laptops include Intel’s 8th-generation Core i5 and i7 processors, SSD storage, and an option for a second SSD drive. LG’s Gram laptops have always been very thin and light, and this year’s models maintain just over two pounds for the 13.3- and 14-inch models, and 2.4 pounds for the larger 15-inch version. While LG claimed its Gram 14 laptop had 23 hours of battery life earlier this year, the test was based on a decade-old benchmark. LG is making bold battery life promises again for the 2018 models, but this time the company is using the 2014 version of MobileMark for its battery estimates. LG is claiming that the 13.3-inch model will last up to 22.5 hours, with the 14-inch at 21.5 hours, and the 15-inch version at 19 hours. The batteries have also been increased to 72Wh, up f

Samsung updates its Notebook 9 ultrabooks with even bigger batteries

Image
Samsung refreshed its Notebook 9 series of laptops earlier this year, and the company is getting ready to do the same for 2018. Samsung is unveiling three new models today, instead of waiting for CES next month where we typically see a number of new laptops. The first is Samsung’s Notebook 9 Pen, and perhaps the most interesting of the trio. It’s a 13.3-inch 2-in-1 notebook, and as the name suggests the Notebook 9 Pen includes an integrated S Pen, much like the Notebook 9 Pro introduced in May. Samsung is updating the Notebook 9 Pen to include Intel’s 8th-generation Core i7 processors, up to 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of SSD storage. The display resolution is 1920 x 1080, with a disappointing lack of a higher resolution option. Much like Lenovo’s Yoga tablets, Samsung’s Notebook 9 Pen will flip around into various modes for tablet or drawing use. Samsung has squeezed in a HDMI port, a single USB-C port, and a regular USB port, alongside microSD storage and a Windows Hello camera to si
