Porsche 99X Electric Unveiled As The Company’s Entry Into Formula E

Image
Porsche is gearing up to introduce the 2020 Taycan next week, but that’s not the only electric vehicle in the company’s stable. Unveiled earlier today, the 99X Electric marks Porsche’s entry into the exciting world of Formula E. Porsche has hopes for the model as they said its name uses the ‘9’ twice to emphasize the “importance of the Formula E project” for the company. The automaker also said the race car will serve as a development platform for future production electric vehicles. On the styling front, there isn’t much to report as the car largely echoes the competition. However, the company applied a traditional Porsche motorsport livery which features black, white and red. The model also has prominent Porsche badging as well as labels promoting everything from Hugo Boss to Vodafone. Porsche noted Formula E regulations stipulate a standardized chassis and battery, but the drive system is left up to manufactures. As a result, the company developed a special E-Perfor

Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 Packs Seven Seats And 302 HP

Image
Hot on the heels of the unveiling of the GLE 53 Coupe, Mercedes-AMG has taken the wraps off the all-new GLB 35. Set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, the GLB 35 is a high-performance seven-seater that features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. The engine is connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends power to an AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. This setup enables the crossover to rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.2 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The performance tweaks don’t stop there as the crossover has been outfitted with an AMG-tuned suspension that produces less body roll and allows for higher cornering speeds.  The changes sound rather extensive as Mercedes said the GLB 35 has new “steering knuckles and transverse control arms at the front axle, as well as the model-specific subframe and the whe

2020 Porsche Macan Turbo Has 435 HP And Hits 62 MPH In 4.3 Seconds

Image
The Porsche Macan Turbo is back for the 2020 model year following the unveiling of the updated Macan last year. Powering the previous Macan Turbo was a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine but that engine has been replaced with a smaller 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 delivering 434 hp from 5700 rpm and 6600 rpm and 405 lb-ft (549 Nm) of torque from 1800 rpm to 5600 rpm. Grunt is transmitted to the ground through a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive. The German carmaker quotes a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 4.3 seconds, three tenths quicker than the old car, and a top speed of 167 mph (270 km/h) with the available Sport Chrono Package. The 2020 Macan Turbo also packs some pretty potent brakes that use the Porsche Surface Coated technology complete with a tungsten carbide coating that offers a faster response, less wear, and up to 90 per cent less brake dust than conventional cast-iron brake discs. The SUV can be equipped

Redesigned Mercedes GLE Coupe Unveiled With Up To 429 HP

Image
Mercedes has unveiled the new GLE Coupe and GLE 53 Coupe. Designed to battle the BMW X6, the redesigned crossover coupe has an evolutionary design with a bolder front fascia that features a more prominent grille and restyled LED headlights. Moving further back, there’s a more rakish windscreen and 19- to 22-inch alloy wheels. Of course, the biggest change is the dynamic roofline which gives the model a coupe-like appearance. The sporty styling continues at the rear as the crossover has bulging fenders for a “ready-to-pounce look.” There’s also slimmer taillights and a liftgate with an integrated rear spoiler. Last but not least, the GLE Coupe has a chrome-plated accent that wraps around a dual exhaust system. Compared to its predecessor, the new GLE Coupe is 1.5 inches (39 mm) longer, 0.3 inches (7 mm) wider and has a wheelbase that has been stretched by 0.8 inches (20 mm). Those differences are relatively minor, but the Coupe is still 2.4 inches (60 mm) shorter than t

2020 Audi RS 6 Avant Revealed With 592 HP, Will Be Offered In America

Image
High-performance wagons are an Audi staple and the company isn’t disappointing as they’ve unveiled the all-new RS 6 Avant Set to celebrate its public debut in Frankfurt, the 2020 RS 6 Avant has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces 592 hp (441 kW / 600 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission which sends power to a quattro all-wheel drive system. This setup enables the car to rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Speaking of performance, the wagon comes equipped with a specially tuned adaptive air suspension and a sport differential which promises to “enhance cornering agility by actively splitting torque between each of the rear wheels.” There’s also an optimized steering system which “develops significantly higher return forces as [the] steering angle increases, to provide precise steering feedback.”  Customers will also be able to order an RS spor

McLaren’s Next Ultimate Series Model Is A Limited Production Roadster

Image
This year’s Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance will host an all-new Ultimate Series McLaren model, a yet-unnamed two-seat, open cockpit roadster. The British automaker says that the new model will debut in late 2020 and that production will be limited to just 399 cars. Meanwhile, its price tag should see it positioned somewhere between the McLaren Senna ($958,966) and the Speedtail (£2.1 million GBP). Speaking of these two, while the Senna is focused on being the ultimate road-legal track car, and the Speedtail is all about high-speed aerodynamic efficiency, the new roadster will look to offer “the purest distillation of road-focused driving pleasure and an unrivaled sense of driver connection with the surrounding environment.” In terms of styling and performance, we can expect elegant sweeping lines and low-profile dihedral doors to serve as eye candy, while the carbon fiber construction and twin-turbocharged V8 engine will take care of the rest. By the way, the engine is “a v

Bugatti’s Centodieci Is A 1,578 HP Tribute To The EB110

Image
The Bugatti Centodieci might have slipped out early, but the company has officially unveiled the new hypercar in Pebble Beach. Starting with performance specs, the Centodieci has an 8.0-liter W16 engine that produces a staggering 1,578 hp (1,176 kW / 1,600 PS). This is 99 hp (74 kW / 100 PS) more than the Chiron. Thanks to the extra power, the model can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 2.4 seconds. Keeping the accelerator pinned to the floor will see 124 mph (200 km/h) arrive in 6.1 seconds, while 186 mph (300 km/h) comes 7 seconds later. Given enough room, the Centodieci will eventually top out at an electronically limited 236 mph (380 km/h). The performance tweaks don’t stop there as the Centodieci weighs 44 lbs (20 kg) less than the Chiron. This was made possible by an assortment of changes including the use of a lightweight windshield wiper and stabilizers that were built out of carbon fiber. Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann said “The increased power and lowe

Lamborghini Aventador SVJ 63 Roadster Revealed In Pebble Beach

Image
Monterey Car Week continues as Lamborghini has taken the wraps off the new Aventador SVJ 63 Roadster. Following in the footsteps of last year’s SVJ 63 coupe, the roadster is a limited edition supercar that pays tribute to the company’s founding in 1963. Jointly created by Lamborghini’s Centro Stile and Ad Personam teams, the Aventador SVJ 63 Roadster will be available in eight exclusive “design expressions.” Each will feature matte or shiny carbon fiber on the windshield frame, engine cover and roof. The car also has an SVJ 63 livery and special Leirion forged wheels with a matte titanium finish. Interior changes are minor, but drivers will find carbon fiber trim, CarbonSkin accents and one of three different Alcantara color schemes.  There’s also individually numbered badges. Power is provided by a familiar 6.5-liter V12 engine that produces 759 hp (566 kW / 770 PS) and 531 lb-ft (720 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed transmission which sends power to a

Drako GTE Is A 1200 HP Electric Hyper Sedan That Promises Supercar-Like Handling

Image
Drako Motors has unveiled their first car at The Quail. Billed as the culmination of nearly a decade of work, the GTE is an ultra-luxury sedan that is based on the old Fisker Karma. Despite this, the model is not a copycat as it features a new front end with slender headlights, a carbon fiber hood and large air intakes. The sides largely carry over, but now come with sportier side skirts and hidden door handles. Bigger changes can be found at the rear in the form of a massive diffuser and a small trunk with an integrated spoiler. Power comes from a 90 kWh battery pack that feeds no less than four electric motors, which produce a combined output of 1,200 HP (895 kW / 1,217 PS) and 6,491 lb-ft (8,800 Nm) of torque. Drako didn’t mention the car’s range or 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time, but did say that the GTE has a top speed of 206 mph (332 km/h). The company was also coy about recharging times, but confirmed the model has a 15 kW onboard charger and can also be use DC fast

Acura Type S Concept Is A Sensuous Preview Of The Upcoming TLX Type S

Image
Following a preview earlier this month, Acura has officially unveiled the Type S Concept ahead of its debut on August 15th. Designed to preview the upcoming TLX Type S, the concept is a bold departure for Acura as it adopts a sleek and stylish design that embraces “Precision Crafted Performance.” Starting up front, the model has an aggressive fascia with a prominent Diamond Pentagon grille. It is flanked by Jewel Eye LED headlights with “Chicane” daytime running lights that draw inspiration from the ARX-05 Daytona Prototype. Further below, we can see large air intakes and a stylish carbon fiber splitter that wraps around the front end. The sporty styling continues further back as the concept has a long hood and a rakish windscreen.  Designers also gave the model flowing bodywork, muscular rear fender and a dynamic roofline.  We can also see 21-inch alloy wheels that are backed up by a high-performance Brembo braking system with four-piston calipers. Out back, the conce

Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet Is A Crossover For Droptop Lovers

Image
Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Rather than simply removing the roof of the standard T-Roc, Volkswagen has drastically altered the vehicle’s structure and body. In fact, its wheelbase is 37 mm longer than the standard T-Roc while its overall length is up by 34 mm. In addition, the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet features structural strengthening in the underbody, side panels, cross members, doors, and windscreen frame to make up for the lack of a roof. The folding fabric roof developed by Volkswagen retracts in just nine seconds at speeds of up to 19 mph (30.5 km/h) and is similar in operation to the roof of the outgoing Golf Cabriolet. The presence of the soft top reduces trunk space by 161 liters down from the 284 liters of the run-of-the-mill T-Roc. We don’t think bu
