Porsche 935 Clubsport Racer Debuts With 700 HP

Image
Porsche has used the Rennsport Reunion to stage the surprise unveiling of the new 935 race car. Drawing inspiration from the iconic 935/78, the new model is a limited edition Clubsport race car that hasn’t been designed to compete in any particular series. The car is based on the 911 GT2 RS and features a retro-inspired body which is largely constructed out of lightweight carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) panels. The 935 also features an assortment of components shared with race cars including LED lights from the 919 Hybrid LMP1, side mirrors from the 911 RSR and titanium tailpipes which echo those on the 1968 Porsche 908. Last but not least, there are aerodynamically optimized wheels which mimic those on the 935/78. Moving into the cabin, there’s a carbon fiber steering wheel and digital instrument cluster sourced from the 2019 911 GT3 R. Drivers sit in a Recaro racing seat and are strapped in by a six-point harness. To their right is a unique center console and a l

Smart Forease Concept Pays Tribute To The Past While Giving A Nod To The Electric Future

Image
Smart is celebrating its 20th anniversary and the company is marking the occasion by introducing the new Forease concept. Set to debut at the Paris Motor Show next week, the Forease is a two-seat roadster which pays tribute to other “pioneering” concepts such as the 2001 Crossblade and 2011 Forspeed. Billed as “uncompromisingly open” and “reduced to the essential,” the Forease concept is based on the EQ Fortwo Cabrio and features a chopped windscreen and flush-mounted door handles.  The model also has a metallic white body that is contrasted by stream green accents and a matte silver Tridion safety cell. Designers also installed unique bumpers, a massive diffuser and two stylish roll bars. Other highlights include distinctive headlights, a revised grille and 3D taillights. The stylish design continues in the cabin as drivers are greeted by a unique steering wheel and two-tone seats with stream green accents. The multi-colored theme is visible elsewhere as the whi

New Audi SQ2 Makes Early Debut, Gets S3’s 300 PS Powertrain

Image
After months of testing having been spied on several occasions, the Audi SQ2 is finally ready to bow at next week’s 2018 Paris Auto Show. The range-topping version of the first-ever Q2 small crossover is powered by the same engine as the Audi S3 models. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline unit makes an identical 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) and 400 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque, and is connected to a seven-speed DCT S Tronic transmission, and Quattro AWD. Naught to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes only 4.8 seconds, or 0.2 seconds slower than the Audi S3 Sportback, and top speed is electronically capped at 250 km/h (155 mph). Other mechanical work includes the beefier braking system, with 340 mm (13.4 in) front and 310 mm (12.2 in) rear discs, S-badged calipers available in red as an option, and new suspension. The latter brings the body by 20 mm (0.79 in) closer to the ground, makes the ride stiffer and improves the hot crossover’s cornering abilities. On the outside, the Au

Mysterious Audi R8 Teased For 2018 Paris Auto Show

Image
Audi has something new in store for the 2018 Paris Auto Show, a mysterious R8 that will debut next Tuesday, but what is it? Based on the teaser pic dropped by Audi Sport on social media, it’s clearly an R8, given the headlight signature, wide stance and four rings logo that sit on the front hood instead of the grille. Look closely at the image and you’ll notice a couple of air vents on the hood, which have something very LMS-ish in their design. So, is this an indication that Audi is perhaps readying a different derivative of their racer? It could be, but until we have official confirmation, we cannot be certain if this is the case. Besides the rumored R8 racer, Audi is also working on a facelifted version of the second generation R8. Prototypes of the car were seen in motion testing in different parts of Germany these past few months, with vinyl stickers covering most of their front and rear ends, as well as the lower profile. The camouflage suggests that this is where Audi h

2019 Hyundai i30 Fastback N Breaks Cover In Denmark Ahead Of Paris Debut

Image
Hyundai has dropped the first official photos and information on the all-new i30 Fastback N five-door performance model ahead of its Paris Auto Show debut. As promised, Hyundai N’s third model was unveiled as part of a race from Rome to Paris. There was a catch, though: the race was between two Danish villages called Rome and Paris, not Italy’s and France’s capital cities. Driven by Gabriele Tarquini, the winning i30 Fastback N needed 8 minutes and 18.49 seconds to cover the distance between the two villages. Back to the car, you should know it grafts the same mechanicals of the i30 N hatchback onto the i30 Fastback body style. That means the engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 250 PS (248 hp) in standard guise and 275 PS (272 hp) in optional Performance guise. In both cases, the engine delivers 353 Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque. However, the overboost function further increases peak torque to 378 Nm (279 lb-ft). The function activates automati

Hennessey Continues The Madness With A Silverado-Based Goliath 6×6

Image
A number of companies have developed six-wheeled vehicles following the success the Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6 and the latest is Hennessey Performance which has released details about their upcoming Goliath 6×6. Similar to the company’s VelociRaptor 6×6, the Goliath 6×6 is a six-wheeled pickup which is based on the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss. Besides the additional rear axle, the truck has been equipped with a custom bed, an eight inch (203 mm) lift kit and 20-inch wheels which are wrapped in 37-inch BFG off-road tires. Other upgrades include a roll bar and LED auxiliary lights. The model also has custom bumpers and plenty of Hennessey badging. Besides the styling changes, the truck has a 6.2-liter V8 engine that has been equipped with a 2.9-liter supercharger and a new stainless steel exhaust system. Hennessey says these additions will enable the mill to produce 705 hp (525 kW / 714 PS) and 675 lb-ft (914 Nm) torque – an increase of 285 hp (212 kW / 289 PS) and 29

All-New Mercedes-Benz B-Class Confirmed For Paris Auto Show

Image
Mercedes-Benz’s compact family of cars will soon welcome the new generation B-Class. The MPV, which will continue to challenge the likes of BMW’s 2-Series Active and Gran Tourer models, will be presented to the public at the 2018 Paris Auto Show, early next week. The third-generation Mercedes-Benz B-Class uses the same underpinnings as the latest A-Class. It promises a more spacious interior, cleaner engines, and some of the safety tech we’ve seen on the S-Class – always according to the car manufacturer. One of the key features inside will be the MBUX infotainment system, a dual-screen layout that combines the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster into a single package. Just like in the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the system will be available in different screen sizes, and will most likely be offered as standard across the range. Another premiere for the 2018 Paris Auto Show is the Mercedes-AMG A35. The hot hatch goes against the Audi S3 Sportback and Volkswage

Aston Martin Confirms Mid-Engine ‘003’ Hypercar With Hybrid Powertrain For 2021

Image
Aston Martin will launch a new mid-engine hypercar in 2021, currently dubbed ‘Project 003’, that will feature technologies from the Valkyrie. The British car maker confirmed its development by releasing both a sketch as well as some details regarding this upcoming 2021 hypercar. Aston Martin says that the ‘Project 003’ will be a road-legal car that will offer “class leading dynamics on both road and track”. It will be based on a lightweight structure and will employ active aerodynamics and suspension systems, while power will be provided by a mid-mounted, turbocharged petrol-electric drivetrain. The ‘Project 003’ will follow Aston’s Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro (dubbed 001 and 002, respectively), sharing technologies that will be showcased in both of those cars. “It was always the intention for the Aston Martin Valkyrie to be a once-in-a lifetime project, however, it was also vital to us that Valkyrie would create a legacy: a direct descendent that would also set new standard

Peugeot e-Legend Concept Takes Retro Design Into The Future In Paris

Image
Retro design looks to the past. Electric propulsion looks to the future. But automakers have been apt to show us they needn’t be mutually exclusive, like Peugeot has with the new e-Legend concept. Set to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show next month, the Peugeot e-Legend is draws its stylistically inspiration from the classic 504 coupe and applies it to a futuristic form about the size of a Nissan GT-R – but with a radically different approach. Underneath the neo-retro styling, for starters, sits an array of electric motors and batteries to imbue the show car with 456 horsepower (340 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. Backed by 100 kWh-worth of batteries, it’s said to rocket to 62 mph (100 km/h) in under four seconds, top out at 137 mph (220 km/h), and zip along for up to 373 miles (600 km) on a single charge. And 311 miles (500 km) of those can be unlocked with just 25 minutes of rapid induction charging. “Peugeot e-Legend Concept is not just a technological

Ferrari Monza SP1 And SP2 Debut With Company’s Most Powerful V12 Engine

Image
Ferrari has officially taken the wraps off the new Monza SP1 and Monza SP2. Unveiled as part of the company’s Capital Markets Day event, the Monza models are “limited-edition special-series cars” that are the first in the brand’s new Icona line which was announced earlier today. As a result, they combine a 1950’s design with modern technology. In the case of the SP1 and SP2, Ferrari says the models draw inspiration from iconic racing barchettas such as the 1948 166 MM. While both cars feature a similar design, the Monza SP1 is billed as an “uncompromising” single seater that offers a “truly unique experience behind the wheel.” It’s hard to argue with that sentiment as the SP1 looks like nothing else on the road. At the front, the model has a carbon fiber front slitter which resides below a wide grille and protruding LED daytime running lights. Bigger changes occur further back as the windscreen has been removed and this promises to give owners a taste of the “blisteri
