Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV Shows Off Silhouette Before LA Auto Show


Prior to its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 15th, a teaser image of the upcoming Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV has been released.

Revealing the silhouette of the Italian company's very first SUV, the teaser doesn't show much. Nevertheless, the steeply raked windscreen, bulging front quarter panels/headlights and the sleek tailgate do preview the model's sporty persona.

While further specifics about the vehicle's design aren't known, much of it styling inspiration will come from the Giulia sedan. That will of course include the firm's customary triangular front grille and in all likelihood, headlights and taillights similar to those of the Giulia. Interestingly, the SUV pictured in the teaser isn't sporting a tailgate spoiler as some renderings have suggested, indicating such a feature may only come on performance-oriented models.

Speaking of performance, the Stelvio is also expected to draw on the Giulia in that regard. In fact, the range-topping variant will share the Giulia Quadrifoglio's twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 delivering 503 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Rather than simply removing the roof of the standard T-Roc, Volkswagen has drastically altered the vehicle’s structure and body. In fact, its wheelbase is 37 mm longer than the standard T-Roc while its overall length is up by 34 mm. Ford's new GT Competition Series was built with weight-saving in mind, but also with an improved center of gravity for better road-holding.
