Hyundai i20 Facelift Ushers In New Tech And Revised Styling


Hyundai has pulled the wraps off a minor facelift for the popular i20.

Set to go on sale later this year, the updated five-door hatchback features a host of minor styling changes including a new front bumper and a “cascading grille.” Bigger changes occur out back as the model has been equipped with a new rear bumper and a redesigned hatchback that now houses the license plate.


Rounding out the exterior styling changes are new taillights and updated 15- and 16-inch alloy wheels. The model can also be equipped with a panoramic sunroof as well as a two-tone Phantom Black roof. Speaking of colors, there are several new options including Champion Blue, Clean Slate and Tomato Red.

Moving into the cabin, drivers will find a new Display Audio system with a seven-inch screen as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Higher-end variants can be equipped with a Display Audio system featuring GPS navigation as well as Live Services.


Sticking with the technology theme, drivers will find a new USB charging port as well as the Hyundai SmartSense suite of driver assistance systems. The latter includes a Lane Departure Warning System, Lane Keeping Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Alert and High Beam Assist. These systems will come standard on SE and higher variants.

Under the hood, there’s a 1.0-liter engine with outputs of 100 PS (74 kW) and 120 PS (88 kW). Customers can also order a 1.2-liter engine which has outputs of 75 PS (55 kW) and 84 PS (62 kW).


All i20 models will come equipped with an engine start/stop system and models with the 1.0-liter T-GDI engine have a new particulate filter. Transmission choices largely carryover but a new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is available on models equipped with the 100 PS (74 kW) version of the 1.0-liter engine.

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Rather than simply removing the roof of the standard T-Roc, Volkswagen has drastically altered the vehicle’s structure and body. In fact, its wheelbase is 37 mm longer than the standard T-Roc while its overall length is up by 34 mm. In addition, the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet features structural strengthening in the underbody, side panels, cross members, doors, and windscreen frame to make up for the lack of a roof. Ford's new GT Competition Series was built with weight-saving in mind, but also with an improved center of gravity for better road-holding.
