Brabham BT62 Revealed As A Track-Only Supercar With 700 HP


Following a lengthy teaser campaign, Brabham Automotive has finally unveiled the new BT62.


Designed specifically as a track-only supercar, the BT62 is undeniably aggressive as it has a carbon fiber body with front fender vents and aerodynamic side skirts. The car has also been equipped with a massive front splitter, a large rear wing and a center-mounted dual exhaust system. The BT62 rides on center-locking 18-inch wheels which are shod in bespoke Michelin racing tires.


The aggressive styling isn’t just for looks as Brabham says the model should produce more than 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs) of downforce. The extensive use of carbon fiber and carbon Kevlar also means the model weighs just 972 kg (2,142 lbs) dry.


The track-focused design is evident in the cabin as drivers sit in FIA-spec carbon fiber racing seats with six-point harnesses. In front of them, is a removable carbon fiber steering wheel, adjustable pedals and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster.


A closer inspection reveals exposed carbon fiber doors, a roll cage and Alcantara upholstery. The model also has a fire extinguisher and a dedicated control panel with large buttons for features such as the headlights, windshield wipers and turn signals.


Power is provided by a mid-mounted 5.4-liter V8 engine which is naturally-aspirated. The Brabham-made engine produces 700 hp (522 kW / 710 PS) and 492 lb-ft (666 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed sequential racing transmission but there’s no word on how fast the car is.


Given its track-focused setup, it comes as little surprise the BT62 has a double-wishbone suspension with adjustable anti-roll bars and four-way adjustable Ohlins dampers. Engineers also installed a high-performance carbon ceramic Brembo braking system with six piston calipers.

Production will be limited to 70 units and the car costs £1 ($1.3) million before taxes. The first 35 units will feature a livery designed to celebrate Brabham’s 35 wins in Formula One. The remaining 35 units will apparently be more customizable.

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. Ford's new GT Competition Series was built with weight-saving in mind, but also with an improved center of gravity for better road-holding.
