2020 Ford GT Gets Power Boost, Stunning Liquid Carbon Edition And More


In a rather surprising move, Ford has given the 2020 GT several technical and visual enhancements.

We’ll start with the revised oily bits, which were inspired by the Ford GT Mk2 racer and include updated engine calibration, gallery-cooled pistons, higher-energy ignition coils and broader torque band. The result is an additional 13 horsepower added to the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which lifts the output to 660 hp.


That’s not all, because the revised GT also gets a larger intercooler and updates to the buttress air ducts that increase the air flow by 50 percent.

The suspension has been updated as well in ‘Track’ mode to improve handling and body control. Furthermore, the Akrapovic titanium exhaust system, which was a $10,000 option, is now offered as standard. That’s great news not only from a soundtrack standpoint, but also because it provides a weight saving of 9 lbs (4 kg).


One of the most striking additions to the 2020 GT lineup is the Liquid Carbon Edition, bringing visible carbon fiber bodywork under a protective clear coat. It also features carbon fiber wheels and customers can spend more money on options like the titanium lug nuts and six-point racing harness. The supercar can be further personalized with single or dual center stripes and mirror caps, available in all standard or optional colors, joined by five caliper finishes and five interior options.

The racing inspired livery of the 2020 GT has also been updated with a black pinstripe used to divide the blue and orange colors. It further mimics the looks of the GT40 1968-1969 Le Mans winner by switching the optional carbon fiber number from ‘9’ (2019 model) to ‘6’ for the new MY. The heritage variant is available with carbon fiber wheels as well.

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Ford's new GT Competition Series was built with weight-saving in mind, but also with an improved center of gravity for better road-holding.
