This Is Lamborghini’s New Hybrid Sián Roadster – And It’s Already Sold-Out


Lamborghini has pulled the covers off the new Sián Roadster, the topless version of the brand’s most powerful model ever.

Set to be produced in just 19 examples, the new limited-edition hypercar from Sant’Agata is a car that you can’t buy as all of them are already spoken for.


Just like the coupe variant, the Sián Roadster is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine combined with a 48-volt electric motor for a total output of 807 HP (819 PS). 0-62 mph comes in less than 2.9 seconds while top speed is claimed to be over 217 mph (350 km/h).

Lamborghini says that certain design elements of the new Sián Roadster are inspired by the Countach, including the “Periscopio” line that culminates in the airstreamers behind the driver and passenger, and the six hexagonal taillights.


The new Sián Roadster also features a pair of aero wings on the rear, in addition to active cooling vanes made out of patented temperature-sensitive materials that react to the heat from the exhaust system, causing the vanes to rotate and cool the engine.

Lamborghini’s most powerful road-legal model to date is also the first hybrid too, with the 33 HP electric motor incorporated into the transmission and allowing the car to operate on EV power alone in low-speed maneuvers such as reversing and parking.


The most innovative part of the first hybrid Lamborghini however is the supercapacitor, which is three times more powerful than a lithium-ion battery of the same size, as well as three times lighter than a battery of the same power. Lamborghini says that the electric system with the supercapacitor and the electric motor weighs just 34 kg (75 lbs), giving the new Sián Roadster a weight-to-power ratio of 2.0 kg/hp.

“The Sián’s innovative hybrid powertrain heralds the direction for Lamborghini super sports cars, and the open-top Sián Roadster affirms a desire for the ultimate lifestyle Lamborghini as we move towards a tomorrow demanding new solutions,” said Stefano Domenicali, Lamborghini’s CEO.


One other advantage of the supercapacitor over normal lithium-ion batteries is that it can be charged and discharged with the same power, enabling the Sián Roadster to fully charge every time the vehicle brakes. The stored energy is then available as an instant power boost at speeds of up to 80 mph (130 km/h), making it more than 10 percent faster than a car without this system.

In addition, the hybrid system also makes the Sián Roadster more comfortable to drive, eliminating any jerking movements during gear changes thanks to the system’s torque fill function.


Every example of the new Lamborghini Sián Roadster will be built to their owners’ exact specification via the company’s Ad Personam customization department, with the company offering an endless range of colors and finishes, and even the option to have their initials inscribed on the air vents via 3D-printing.
