New 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Convertible, For That S-Class Flair At C-Class Prices

Mercedes-Benz pulled the top down on their very first C-Class Convertible on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show.

It’s the S-Class Convertible’s little brother in more ways than one, bearing the same elegant styling on a more compact body that rests on Merc’s Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform shared with the C-Class Sedan and Coupe, retaining the same footprint.

Even the quality soft top that is available in dark brown, dark blue, dark red or black is based on the one used on the S-Class Cabriolet. It can be opened and closed in less than 20 seconds up to a speed of 50 km/h (31mph).

The four-seat interior is based on the C-Class Coupe, adding standard automatic belt extenders as well as the option of heat reflecting leather seats in five different shades plus Merc’s AIRSCARF neck-level heating.

In European guise, the new C-Class Convertible will arrive in dealerships with a choice of six petrol engines, ranging from a 156PS (154hp) 1.6-liter turbo four for the C180, to a 367PS (362hp) 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 for the C43 AMG 4MATIC.

At launch, there will be two 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel models, the 170PS (168hp) C220 d and the 204PS (201hp) C250 d.

The C 200 petrol and C220 d diesel will be optionally available with Merc’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, while all engines can be specified with a new nine-speed 9G automatic transmission, and an optional AIRMATIC air suspension.

In North America, the C-Class Cabriolet will go on sale late this summer in two variants, the C300 with rear-wheel drive or 4MATIC all-wheel drive, both powered by a 241hp 2.0-liter turbo four, while in the fall, Mercedes will release the C43 AMG with a 362hp 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6. All US models will be sold with a standard nine-speed automatic.
