Geely Teases New Global Electric Sedan Ahead Of Q1 2019 Launch

As GAC prepares to unveil the Entranze electric concept in Detroit, Geely teases us with an all-new electric sedan.

It won’t be on display at the Detroit Auto Show but will be fully unveiled in early 2019, showcasing the brand’s “new electric design language.”

The only teaser image released by the automaker isn’t too revealing but it does allow us to spot a pair of elongated headlights that span half the length of the front fenders. Integrating LED DRLs and three paralleled light bars, the headlamps are designed around the concept of “Yi,” the Chinese word for one. Other design details that stand out include the lack of a front upper grille and the sloping roofline.

The Chinese carmaker says the aerodynamically-shaped EV has a wind drag coefficient of 0.2375 which is pretty good by current standards, allowing for efficient use of energy. To further enhance efficiency, the door handles are integrated into the bodywork and only appear when the driver is within a certain range.

What’s more interesting about the new electric sedan is it won’t be restricted to the Chinese market. According to the automaker, the all-new electric sedan “is a globally developed product and will begin to spearhead Geely’s efforts into entering overseas markets.”

When it launches in the first quarter this year, the EV codenamed GE11 will be Geely first all-new electric sedan since the launch of the Emgrand EV in 2015. The automaker promises the new model will focus on design, technology, and performance.

No specs have been released yet but the electric sedan is reportedly 4,736mm (186.5in) long, 1,804mm (71in) wide and 1,503mm (59.1in) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm (106.3 in). The GE11 will be powered by a 130kW (177PS) electric motor supplied by CATL.
