2019 BMW Z4 Roadster Unveiled, M40i Variant Packs 335 HP


Following an extraordinary number of leaks, BMW has finally taken the wraps off the all-new Z4.


Shown in M40i guise, the all-new roadster follows in the footsteps of last year’s concept and features a wide twin kidney grille with mesh inserts. Designers also gave the car large air intakes, sweptback headlights and a distinctive hood.


Moving further back, we can see a rakish windscreen and large front fender vents. Of course, one of the biggest changes is the return of the soft top which replaces the previous retractable hard top.


At the rear, the M40i has a ventilated rear bumper which resides above a dual exhaust system. The car also has slender taillights and a trunk with an integrated rear spoiler.


BMW didn’t say much about the interior, but we can see a digital instrument and a new three-spoke steering wheel. Other highlights include a large iDrive infotainment system, metallic trim and stainless pedals.


The Z4 M40i First Edition will feature an assortment of special equipment including a Frozen Orange metallic paint which echoes the color used on last year’s concept. The model will also have a black soft top, black mirror caps and BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line trim. Rounding out the exterior styling features are Adaptive LED headlights and 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels with a two-tone finish.


Inside, the special edition will have black Vernasca leather seats, ambient lighting and a Harman Kardon premium audio system. The model will also come equipped with a head-up display and the aforementioned digital instrument cluster.


BMW only released a handful of specifications, but the automaker confirmed the M40i will have a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS). It will enable the roadster to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.4 seconds.


The car will also have an M Sport braking system and a sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers. Other highlights include a 50:50 weight distribution and an M Sport rear differential.


The Z4 will go on sale in the spring of 2019 and the company will release additional information about the model on September 19th.

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Ford's new GT Competition Series was built with weight-saving in mind, but also with an improved center of gravity for better road-holding.
