Porsche’s Project Gold Is The 993 Turbo


The wait is over and Porsche’s highly-desirable ‘Project Gold‘ 993 911 Turbo has premiered and could very well be one of the most desirable Porsches in recent years.


To create this bespoke Turbo, the German manufacturer started with a 993 and stripped it back to its shell. Immediately after, the shell went through a process of corrosion protection and the same painting process that’s applied to modern-day Porsche vehicles. In fact, the car wears the same Golden Yellow Metallic paint as the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series.


With the body fresh, Porsche went about installing a brand new 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine delivering 450 hp, exactly the same as the original 993 Turbo. From there, the manual transmission and all-wheel drive system of the original were sourced from Porsche Classic. To mark the car’s significance, it received a bespoke chassis number that immediately follows the number applied to the last series-production model of the 993 Turbo that was built in 1998.


The vehicle’s interior comes courtesy of the experts from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and is also inspired by the Turbo S Exclusive. As such, it includes gold accent stitching and luscious black leather upholstery.


Through the creation of this car, the world has a new Porsche 993 Turbo that’s officially the last to be produced. While that’s awesome, we can’t help but feel bad for the owner of the last 993 Turbo that was built in 1998.


Fortunately, the car won’t be locked away in a Porsche vault, museum, or dealership. Instead, it will cross the auction block at RM Sotheby’s Porsche 70th Anniversary Sale in Atlanta, Georgia on October 27. It’s difficult to predict how much the car will sell for but we’d be shocked if it didn’t fetch seven figures.

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Ford's new GT Competition Series was built with weight-saving in mind, but also with an improved center of gravity for better road-holding.
