2019 GMC Sierra AT4 Brings Off-Road Chops To The Big Apple


GMC has introduced the all-new Sierra AT4, ahead of its debut at the New York Auto Show.


Based on the 2019 Sierra, the AT4 is an off-road focused model which comes equipped with a 2-inch suspension lift, Rancho monotube shock absorbers and exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires. The truck has also comes standard with four-wheel drive, a locking rear differential and skid plates. Other off-road features include red recovery hooks, hill descent control and a traction select system which has preset drive modes that adjust the “transmission shift points, throttle mapping and StabiliTrak to optimize performance for the situation at hand.”


The unique features don’t stop there as designers installed body-color accents on the grille surround, door handles and bumpers. The truck has also black chrome accents and a MultiPro Tailgate which has six unique functions including a standing workstation mode and an egress mode which acts as a step and a seating position.


Interior changes are limited but the truck has two-tone leather seats with embroidered AT4 badging on the headrests. Drivers will also find contrast stitching, all-weather floor mats and “dark-tinted and textured aluminum finishes.”


An assortment of different options will be available including a color head-up display, a rear camera mirror and the GMC-exclusive CarbonPro bed. It is constructed out of a purpose-built carbon composite material which enables the bed to be 62 pounds (28 kg) lighter than its steel counterpart while also providing “best-in-class dent, scratch and corrosion resistance.” Buyers should also opt for the 20-inch wheels as the standard 18-inchers look positively tiny.


Power comes from a 5.3-liter V8 engine which has a Dynamic Fuel Management system that enables it to operate on one to eight cylinders. Customers will also be able to order an optional 6.2-liter V8 engine or a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel inline-six.


The 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 will go on sale this fall and pricing will be announced closer to launch.

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Ford's new GT Competition Series was built with weight-saving in mind, but also with an improved center of gravity for better road-holding.
