Icona Nucleus Is A Driving Enthusiast’s Worst Nightmare


This year’s Geneva Motor Show hosts loads of futuristic self-driving vehicles with no steering wheel, such as the VW I.D. Vizzion, Renault’s EZ-GO and this, the Icona Nucleus.

Like VW and Renault’s take on a completely autonomous future, the Nucleus is without any driver oriented commands, so if you were hoping for anything resembling a steering wheel or even a dashboard, you’ll probably be disappointed.


What this concept can do for you though is carry you and five of your friends comfortably, according to Icona. In fact, the seats can be moved and can even Voltron into a couch whenever the passengers want to get more of a living room vibe.

There’s also plenty of room available, since the Nucleus measures 5.25 meters (17.2 ft) long, 2.12 meters (6.9 ft) wide and 1.75 meters (5.7 ft) tall. Another impressive feature is the low drag coefficient of 0.25, courtesy of an underbody diffuser as well as wheel arch aero blade extensions.


In the end, if we had to choose between the Nucleus, the EZ-GO and the I.D. Vizzion, we’d probably opt for the VW, even though the prospect of no steering wheel can be a little depressing for anybody who enjoys driving and being in control.

Besides, if one of the Nucleus’ strong suits is the fact that it can accommodate six people and look smart doing it, to that we say: so can a Tesla Model X, and we’d much rather travel in one of those.

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Rather than simply removing the roof of the standard T-Roc, Volkswagen has drastically altered the vehicle’s structure and body. In fact, its wheelbase is 37 mm longer than the standard T-Roc while its overall length is up by 34 mm. In addition, the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet features structural strengthening in the underbody, side panels, cross members, doors, and windscreen frame to make up for the lack of a roof. Ford's new GT Competition Series was built with weight-saving in mind, but also with an improved center of gravity for better road-holding.
