SsangYong e-SIV Electric Concept Previews New Compact SUV


SsangYong has released several official sketches of an entirely new study called e-SIV, which stands for Electronic Smart Interface Vehicle.

After the KEV1, KEV2, e-XIV and Tivoli EV-R, it’s the company’s fifth electric car concept, and will be unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show on March 6.


The compact SUV is, according to the automaker, “central in helping shape the next-generation SsangYong SUVs and EVs” and “illustrates its approach towards future electric vehicles, connectivity, and autonomous driving”.


Moreover, it provides a glimpse into a new design language as well, which appears to be defined by the bold grille, slim headlights and taillights, sporty profile and muscular wheel arches. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if some of these features are toned down for production.

Measuring 4,460mm (176in) in length, 1,870mm (74in) in width and 1,630mm (64in) in height, and sporting a 2,675mm (105in) wheelbase, the SsangYong e-SIV is slightly larger than the Korando.


Power comes from a 190PS (187hp) electric motor, which allows it to reach a top speed of 150km/h (93mph). SsangYong claims that the concept can be driven for up to 450km (280miles) on a single charge. Its battery pack, which has yet to be detailed, features a fast-charging function that allows it to be charged up to 80 percent in 50 minutes.

Joining the e-SIV at the Swiss auto show in a couple of weeks will be the new generation Musso. The pickup truck was already unveiled last month, and uses the same platform as the Rexton.


SsangYong should start taking orders for the new Musso not long after its official presentation in Europe, where it will compete against rivals such as the Renault Alaskan and Mitsubishi L200.

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Ford's new GT Competition Series was built with weight-saving in mind, but also with an improved center of gravity for better road-holding.
