2021 Toyota Yaris Cross Unveiled As Europe’s Go-Anywhere Subcompact Crossover

Image
Toyota has finally released the first photos and information on its Yaris-based SUV, appropriately named the Yaris Cross. Offering more room, an increased ground clearance and the option of all-wheel drive, the Toyota Yaris Cross will become the third member of the Yaris family when it launches in Europe in mid-2021. Joining the regular Yaris subcompact hatch and the GR Yaris hot hatch, the Yaris Cross is larger than both. While the wheelbase is the same at 2,560 mm (100.8 in), the crossover is 240 mm (9.4 in) longer at 4,180 mm (164.5 in). The Yaris Cross is also 20 mm (0.8 in) wider and 90 mm (3.5 in) taller than the Yaris. Despite that, it’s still small enough to avoid stepping on the Toyota C-HR‘s toes. Compared to the larger crossover, it appears less controversial from a styling standpoint, adopting a more conventional look. Some could say it looks like a mini-me Toyota RAV4, with the similar front end, generous plastic body cladding, flared wheel arches and overall S...

All three phones come with 5G connectivity, 64MP main cameras and 4,000 mAh batteries with 40W fast charging. Motorola Edge+ brings S865, 5G and 108MP camera, Edge joins in with S765

Image
Motorola is jumping head first into the 5G market with two new “edge” phones – named after what the company calls “Endless Edge”, its interpretation of the waterfall screen. Both phones share this design, as well as 5G connectivity and a capable triple camera. Motorola Edge+ The Motorola Edge+ is Moto’s first proper flagship in a while and it makes up for lost time by marking several “firsts” for the brand. For starters, this 6.7” HDR10+ AMOLED panel is the first Motorola with a 90Hz refresh rate. The 1080p+ resolution isn’t quite “premium”, but looking at it positively, it uses less energy. A 25MP selfie camera sits in the punch hole in the upper left corner and there is an in-display fingerprint reader hiding behind the display. The US version of the Edge+ supports mmWave 5G, which promises up to 4Gbps download speeds working on Verizon’s network, the launch partner in the US. This is Moto’s first proper 5G phone (not counting any MotoMod experiments). Global...

Apple's new iPhone SE is a $399 iPhone 8 with the latest chipset and a better camera

Image
Apple has just unveiled the new iPhone SE, sticking with the rumored date, even if there was no flashy event - just a press release. Despite what its name might have you believe, the new iPhone SE is more of a refresh of the iPhone 8 than of the original SE. You can think of it as an iPhone 8 with the latest chipset and a better camera. Oh, there are new colors too, but that's about it. The new iPhone SE has the iPhone 8's 4.7-inch "Retina HD" screen with True Tone and support for Dolby Vision and HDR10 playback. This is surrounded by large bezels, and below there's a sapphire crystal covered capacitive Touch ID fingerprint sensor like in the iPhone 8. It's powered by the A13 SoC, just like the iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max. Its camera has benefited from the new chipset too. The single 12 MP f/1.8 shooter on the back, features improved Smart HDR photography thanks to the raw power inside that chip. For portrait shots, in lieu of a secondary camera...

OnePlus 8 unveiled with 48MP camera and SD865, 8 Pro gets bigger sensor, 120Hz screen

Image
They are here and let’s get this out of the way first – OnePlus kept its promise that its phones will be under $1,000. Indeed, the full-loaded Pro phone is $999 and the base configuration is $100 below that. The vanilla OnePlus 8 starts at $700. The two new models will be available on OnePlus.com starting on April 29 and will also sell through Amazon in the US as well as the major carriers. OnePlus 8 Pro The OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a new 6.78” Fluid AMOLED display, the largest for the brand yet, and its first to hit 120Hz refresh rate. The screen comes with 240Hz touch sampling rate to minimize input lag. The display is calibrated at the factory achieving a record-setting color accuracy. It’s a 10-bit panel with HDR10+ support. HDR Boost will take old 8-bit content and enhance it. There’s also MEMC, which can interpolate 24fps video to 120fps. That’s a “love it or hate it” feature, but OnePlus also did extensive optimizations to the software to ensure that the interface fl...

Image
Honor's new flagship trio debuted today with the vanilla Honor 30 and 30 Pro being joined by the de facto new company flagship - Honor 30 Pro+. The phone has a 50 MP camera, supported by a big 1/1.28” IMX700 sensor by Sony. Other specs that make the phone stand out from its siblings is the 90Hz 6.57” AMOLED panel with 180Hz touch sampling rate, UD fingerprint scanner, and curved sides - a first in the Honor lineup. In addition to the monstrous main sensor, the Honor 30 Pro+ packs an 8MP periscope telephoto shooter with 5x optical zoom and up to 50x hybrid zoom. There is also a 16MP ultrawide cam with a 17mm equivalent lens that doubles as a macro camera, similar to the solution, implemented in the Honor V30 Pro. The camera of the Pro+ also supports AI RAW photos - during a long exposure, it captures multiple RAW shots and then blends them into one RAW image for further editing. Video shooting is another area where the Honor 30 Pro+ trumps its siblings as it can capt...
