Hyundai Kona N Debuts As A Track-Capable Crossover With Up To 286 HP

Image
Hyundai’s N sub-brand has been a hit with enthusiasts, but its appeal has been limited due to a lineup that consists of the i20 N, i 30 N and Veloster N. All three are cars and consumers want crossovers. Hyundai is now acknowledging the obvious as they’ve taken the wraps off the all-new Kona N. Set to become the first N crossover, the model promises to provide a “winning combination of versatility, spirited acceleration, agility and racetrack readiness.” Given its intentions, we’ll start under the hood where buyers will find a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 276 hp (206 kW / 280 PS) and 289 lb-ft (392 Nm) of torque. However, this can temporarily be increased to 286 hp (213 kW / 290 PS) by using the N Grin Shift function. The engine is connected to an eight-speed dual clutch transmission, which features a wet design as well as numerous modifications for high-performance use. Among the changes are specially-tuned gear ratios and a uniquely calibrated control unit that ...

2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz Is A Half Tucson SUV, Half Small Pickup Truck With Up To 275 HP

Image
Hyundai says it’s breaking new ground with the brand new 2022 Santa Cruz. The unibody pickup eschews the boxy proportions of traditional pickups in favor of a youthful design based on its crossovers. The connection to Hyundai’s crossovers is clear, as the Santa Cruz is kinda like a Tucson, only with an open bed added behind the second row of seats. That’s not to say that the two are identical; the front end design may follow the same philosophy but it’s different, while at 118.3 inches, the Santa Cruz’s wheelbase is 9.8 inches longer than that of the new Tucson, and it also has a 12.4-inch bigger overall length, at 195.7 inches. In any case, Hyundai claims that its pickup truck boasts “bold yet sophisticated styling, powerful and efficient powertrain options, a flexible open bed for gear, cutting-edge connectivity and a highly maneuverable all-wheel-drive platform that is equally at home in urban and adventure-focused environments”. With four doors and a bed hauling your gear, the auto...

Hyundai’s New Ioniq 5 Electric CUV Has A Funky ‘80s Sci-Fi Movie Vibe To It

Image
Hyundai has revealed the new Ioniq 5, the carmaker’s all-new electric mid-size crossover and the first model to be branded under the new ‘Ioniq’ electric sub-brand. The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 rides on the dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which blends the traditional skateboard design with an elongated wheelbase for attractively styled and practical EVs. Hyundai’s new electric crossover also features both 400- and 800-volt charging thanks to the new platform. When plugged into a 350kW charger, the Ioniq 5 can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes, with the carmaker claiming that five minutes of charging is enough to get 62 miles of range on the WLTP cycle. The new Ioniq 5 will be available with two battery pack sizes, 58kWh and 72.6 kWh, as well as single- and dual-motor layouts. The most powerful model is the dual-motor variant with the 72.6 kWh pack, offering a combined 302 HP and 446 lb-ft (605 Nm) of torque, and a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.2 seconds. If yo...

2022 Hyundai Tucson Has A Radical Design, Coming To The U.S. Next Year

Image
The all-new 2022 Hyundai Tucson has just been unveiled and as recent teaser images suggested, it shares virtually nothing in common with the outgoing model. Now in its fourth-generation, the Hyundai Tucson is the latest recipient of the automaker’s ever-evolving Sensuous Sportiness design language. With that in mind, the Tucson features a brand new front grille with Parametric Hidden Lights that means when the SUV is switched off, the front of the Hyundai appears to be covered exclusively in dark geometric patterns with no obvious LED daytime running lights. This edgy design continues down the sides of the SUV where there are sharp, chiseled surfaces and angular wheel arches. Completing the design overhaul is a radical new rear-end that includes split taillights, hidden rear wipers that sit under the spoiler, a smooth glass Hyundai badge, and an aggressive diffuser and bumper package. In the United States, petrol-powered Tucsons will be sold in seven exterior colors: White Cream, Phant...

2021 Hyundai Kona Arrives With Tweaked Looks And An N Line Variant

Image
The facelifted 2021 Hyundai Kona and new Kona N Line models have just been unveiled by the South Korean car manufacturer. While the overall shape of the updated Kona remains similar to the outgoing model, a host of changes have been made. These changes are particularly apparent at the front end where Hyundai has fitted re-designed LED daytime running lights while also installing a new lower bumper, a robust skid plate, and a revised black grille. Elsewhere, Hyundai has outfitted the facelifted Kona with new main headlights. Spin around to the rear and the tweaked Kona sports new taillights with revised graphics. There is also a distinctive rear bumper while 16-, 17-, and 18-inch wheels will also be offered throughout the range. A series of unique styling elements make the Kona N Line stand out from the regular model. This includes a bespoke front fascia with a new bumper, three subtle air slots above the grille, an N-style aerodynamic lip with corner fins, distinctive rocker panels, an...

2021 Hyundai Elantra Debuts With Four-Door Coupe Body, New +50MPG Hybrid Variant

Image
The Hyundai Elantra was given a controversial facelift for 2019, but the company is trying to erase the sins of the past by introducing an all-new model in California. Billed as an everyday four-door coupe, the 2021 Elantra (also called in i30 Sedan in some markets such as Australia) adopts the Korean brand’s so-called “Sensuous Sportiness” design language. Beyond the marketing fluff, it results in a more characterful styling than its predecessor, albeit convoluted and far from pretty as it’s as if it’s trying too hard to stand out from the crowd. As expected, the model follows in the footsteps of the Sonata and adopts a wide-face “parametric-jewel-pattern” grille. The turn signals are integrated into the grille and they reside next to angular headlights. The edgy front end gives way to a long flowing hood and sleeker bodywork.  The latter features a prominent character line which is echoed by an upward sweeping beltline. The roof and greenhouse are notably more dynamic...

Hyundai Prophecy Concept Is Electric and Autonomous

Image
Hyundai has unveiled the Prophecy concept, a new electric design study that showcases the company’s latest design language and makes promises of quite an appealing electric future from the Korean car maker. Hyundai’s new electric four-door concept impresses with its balanced clean lines, the extended wheeelbase, short overhangs and arching roofline. Underpinning the Prophecy is a new EV-only architecture according to Hyundai. “We have brought to life yet another icon that establishes a new standard for the EV segment as well as pushing Hyundai’s design vision to even broader horizons,” said SangYup Lee, Head of Hyundai Global Design Center. “A part of that expansion is what we call Optimistic Futurism, a design concept embodied by ‘Prophecy’. With Optimistic Futurism, our aim is to forge an emotional connection between humans and automobiles.” Hyundai’s designers were aiming to provide a timeless design along with excellent aerodynamics by adopting an almost crease-free bod...

Hyundai Gives 2020 i30 Range A Facelift, Mild Hybrids And New Tech

Image
As recent teasers indicated, the design changes made to the facelifted i30 Hatchback, Fastback, and Wagon are only subtle but do make the vehicle a touch more striking. At the front, the South Korean car includes a wider grille with a complex 3D mesh pattern while also sporting slimmer headlights with optional multifaceted reflector MFR LED technology. These lights are particularly eye-catching thanks to the presence of new V-shaped daytime running lights. Spin around to the rear of the refreshed i30 and you’ll be greeted with a new bumper that’s been developed to improve aerodynamic performance. The taillights also offer a V-shape to mimic the front. Hyundai has also designed diamond-cut 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels. Alterations have also been made to the i30 N Line, available in both Hatchback and Fastback guises. In addition to featuring the same headlights and taillights as lesser models, the new N line trim includes a new lower and larger front grille, a re-designed ...

2020 Hyundai i20 Goes Official, Features New Mild Hybrid Powertrain

Image
Set to introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, the redesigned model has a new “Sensuous Sportiness” design which looks far more upscale than its predecessor. Starting up front, there’s a prominent grille which is flanked by sweptback headlights and sportier air intakes.  The model also has a sculpted hood and dynamic bodywork with strong character lines. Other highlights include a contrasting roof, an expanded greenhouse and a tailgate-mounted spoiler.  We can also see new taillights which are connected by a thin illuminated strip. In terms of size, the 2020 i20 is 0.2 inches (5 mm) longer, 1.2 inches (30 mm) wider and 0.94 inches (24 mm) shorter than its predecessor.  The model also features a wheelbase that has been stretched an additional 0.4 inches (10 mm). Hyundai only released a sketch of the interior, but it promises to be far more advanced than the outgoing model as there will be a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8- or 10.25-inch infotai...

Hyundai Vision T Is What We’d Really Like The Next Tucson To Look Like

Image
Hyundai is looking to the future with its Vision T SUV Concept unveiled at the 2019 LA Auto Show. It is a plug-in hybrid compact crossover that’s meant to express the Korean brand’s Sensuous Sportiness global design language while also looking to balance its eco-lifestyle focus with the environment in which it is driven. While Hyundai hasn’t specified any interior or powertrain characteristics, other than it is a plug-in hybrid, its styling obviously reflects everything we’ve seen from previously-spied 2021 Hyundai Tucson prototypes, from the front fascia to certain angles and creases found on the bodywork. We don’t need to tell you that the production Tucson will be a lot less visually aggressive. It measures 181.5 inches (4,610 mm) in length, 79.3 inches (1,938 mm) in width, stands 67.1 inches (1,704 mm) tall, and has a 110.4 inches (2,804 mm) long wheelbase. “We pursue innovative solutions in design and add emotional value to our product experience through sensuous ...
