The Nissan Leaf has a relatively short range of 150 miles (241 km), but the company is fixing that problem by unveiling the new Leaf e+ at CES. Featuring a larger capacity 62 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Leaf e+ has an EPA-estimated range of up to 226 miles (363 km). This is 76 miles (122 km) more than the standard model and it should help to alleviate any lingering range anxiety. Besides the improved battery, the Leaf e+ features an upgraded electric motor that produces 214 hp (160 kW / 217 PS) and 250 lb-ft (340 Nm) of torque. This is a significant improvement over the standard model which is rated at 147 hp (110 kW / 149 PS) and 236 lb-ft (319 Nm) of torque. The extra power more than compensates for the upgraded battery as Nissan says the top speed has increased by approximately 10 percent. Fans of Japanese performance will know the name Nismo as Nissan’s in-house tuning and racing division. It’s offered enhanced versions of the GT-R, 370Z, Juke, Micra/March, Versa/Note, and a handful of others. And now it’s adding the all-electric Leaf to its stable. Following a smattering of concepts over the years, Nissan has now revealed the production Leaf Nismo that’s soon to go on sale – in Japan, at least. And while it doesn’t encompass any powertrain enhancements to speak of, it does offer an array of visual and handling upgrades. Not the least of them is an ECU recalibrated for better acceleration response. After previewing the new Leaf Nismo Concept yesterday, Nissan has now pulled the cover off the show car officially, ahead of its public debut set for later this month, at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. As expected, the study, which is believed to preview a full production version, comes with a more aggressive body kit, highlighted by the tweaked bumpers, side skirts, rear diffuser, and red accents all around. Developed in-house by the brand's motorsports and tuning division, these updates are said to enhance its aero performance. Well, after months of eager anticipation, the 2018 Nissan Leaf has arrived, complete with an all-new design and powertrain that promise to take it to unexplored heights. Set to premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the all-new Leaf will go on sale in early October in Japan before arriving in the U.S., Canada and Europe in early 2018. The second-generation, 2018 Nissan Leaf has been snapped completely undisguised for the very first ahead of its reveal in Tokyo on September 6. The images, captured by Broom from the streets of Spain, highlight the radical new exterior design that was first previewed by a number of thinly-disguised prototypes. The design of the new Leaf is so different and so much better than the original that it’d be a disservice to compare it to its predecessor. Underscoring the new design are appealing new front and rear fascias and a short rear overhang. Making this particular 2018 Leaf look even more appealing is the gloss black roof breaking up the white paint scheme and making it feel slightly more premium. Nissan has released the first teaser image of the next-generation Leaf. Set to debut later this year, the redesigned model promises to build on the success of its predecessor which Nissan claims is the world's best-selling electric vehicle with more than 260,000 units on the road. The teaser image doesn't reveal much but it suggests the car will be equipped with high-tech LED headlights which look significantly better than what is used on the current model. Little is known about the car at this point but previous reports have suggested the 2018 Leaf could be offered with a 40 kWh and 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The highest-volume electric car in the world, the Nissan Leaf, has become a tad more expensive for the new model year as the automaker has dropped the entry-level 24-kWh variant from the lineup. The base model now is the Leaf S, which  features a 30-kWh battery pack  and, according to  GreenCarReports , carries a $32,450 starting price in the United States, up from the previous $29,010 of the 24-kWh Leaf, before government incentives. " We have made a running change to the 2016 Leaf S model to equip it with 30-kWh battery packs as standard equipment, offering best-in-class range across all trim levels for the Leaf.
