Aiways U7 Ion Concept Is A Family Friendly All-Electric MPV

Image
China’s Aiways has just unveiled a brand new all-electric concept vehicle in its hometown of Shanghai. Dubbed the U7 Ion, it follows in the footsteps of the production-ready U5 SUV, showcased in Geneva last month. The U7 Ion features the company’s FRM concept, which stands for “family and roomy mobility”. It also premieres the ‘fourth space’ interior concept, where the vehicle provides a sanctuary from busy modern life through seamless connectivity and in-car artificial intelligence tech. The U7 Ion comes with an integrated self-learning robot, which can actually move around the interior watching over the occupants. The cabin also stands out thanks to a total of 12 screens spread throughout, including a smart dashboard touchscreen display integrated into the steering wheel, and a touchscreen built into a smart mobile console. “Our presence at Auto Shanghai, from our new U7 ion concept and our production-ready U5 SUV to our impressive show stand, shows our drive and ambition...

GAC’s 7-Seat Entranze Is Chinese Brand’s First US-Designed Concept

Image
China’s GAC has returned to the North American International Auto Show to introduce their new Entranze concept. Essentially a futuristic crossover-minivan combo, the Entranze is the first concept created by the company’s new design studio in California. That’s worth noting as the automaker says the model was partially inspired by coastal architecture that “blurs the barriers between indoor and outdoor living.” The coastal inspiration isn’t readily apparent, but the Entranze has “foldable rocker panels” that can transform into a makeshift bench. The van also sports “patio-inspired sliding glass doors” which make entry and egress a breeze. Once drivers enter the cabin, they’re greeted by a bench seat, a unique steering wheel and an assortment of OLED displays. While it’s not uncommon for modern vehicles to have two or three displays, the Entranze appears to have at least eight different displays including a massive screen for the front passenger. When not in use, the la...

All-New Mercedes B-Class Lands In Paris With Fresh Looks And Tech

Image
Mercedes-Benz’s compact vehicle family has just gotten bigger, with the introduction of the all-new B-Class. Unveiled at the 2018 Paris Auto Show, the German firm’s rival to the likes of the BMW 2-Series Active/Gran Tourer carries Mercedes’ latest design language and looks more mature than the car it replaces. Said to have been designed to “stand out visually from the world of minivans”, it has shorter overhangs, a lowered roofline, more muscular body and, of course, redesigned front and rear ends. These features are joined by the optional LED headlights with LED DRLs, a large roof spoiler and wheel choices that span between 16 and 19 inches. Thanks to the new design, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz B-Class has best-in-class airflow, claims the automaker, with aerodynamics engineers said to have reduce wind noise too, thanks to some extensive detail work. Once inside, drivers will sit 90 mm (3.5 in) higher than in the latest A-Class. This results in good all-round visibility, e...

All-New Mercedes-Benz B-Class Confirmed For Paris Auto Show

Image
Mercedes-Benz’s compact family of cars will soon welcome the new generation B-Class. The MPV, which will continue to challenge the likes of BMW’s 2-Series Active and Gran Tourer models, will be presented to the public at the 2018 Paris Auto Show, early next week. The third-generation Mercedes-Benz B-Class uses the same underpinnings as the latest A-Class. It promises a more spacious interior, cleaner engines, and some of the safety tech we’ve seen on the S-Class – always according to the car manufacturer. One of the key features inside will be the MBUX infotainment system, a dual-screen layout that combines the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster into a single package. Just like in the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the system will be available in different screen sizes, and will most likely be offered as standard across the range. Another premiere for the 2018 Paris Auto Show is the Mercedes-AMG A35. The hot hatch goes against the Audi S3 Sportback and Volkswage...

Henrik Fisker Apparently Teases A Mobility Shuttle, Says It's Coming Soon

Image
Henrik Fisker has taken to Twitter to tease an "exciting" new model which will be part of a "whole new segment." While the image only shows the upper half of the vehicle, it appears to a mobility shuttle in the form of an MPV. This further back up by the text in the model's window which shows a departure time and Fisker's hint that "the future of mobility will change forever." Fisker didn't elaborate but it's possible the vehicle will have an autonomous driving system so passengers can simply board the model and be whisked to their destination. That's not official at the moment but the upcoming Fisker EMotion will allow for "fully autonomous driving when approved and released by a soon-to-be-announced partnered supplier." Additional information is limited but it's possible the vehicle will also borrow some other technology from the EMotion. That particular car has a carbon fiber, composite, and aluminum structure ...

New Mitsubishi Delica Concept Leaks Before Tokyo Motor Show

Image
Prior to October’s 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, images of the bold new Mitsubishi Delica Concept have leaked online. Indian Autos Blog reports that the next-generation Delica is based on the same platform as the Mitsubishi Outlander and will come standard with the company’s Super All Wheel Control system. What’s immediately noticeable about the Delica is that its design is very similar to the new Mitsubishi Xpander, but like the outgoing Delica, it adopts a more rugged design better suited for off-road use. For example, the front includes a prominent skid plate and a set of large circular fog lights. The ride height also appears slightly higher than the Xpander's, and the roofline makes the vehicle much more rectangular than its sibling. This is most obvious with the vertical rear window, roof racks and large third-row side windows. Power for the model will reportedly come from a 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel, delivering 170 PS (167 HP) and around 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of t...

All-New Mitsubishi Xpander Debuts In Indonesia

Image
Mitsubishi has unveiled the all-new Xpander at the Indonesia International Auto Show in Jakarta. Designed to blend the ruggedness of SUVs with the practicality of MPVs, the Xpander has a bold appearance that will likely provoke some pretty strong reactions. While styling is always subjective, the model has a Dynamic Shield front fascia with high-mounted LED daytime running lights and vertical headlights. The unique styling continues further back as designers installed prominent character lines and flared wheel arches. The model also has a gently sloping roof, a tailgate-mounted spoiler, and L-shaped LED taillights. Moving into the cabin, drivers will find a three-spoke steering wheel, metallic accents, and tasteful touches of wood trim. The seven-seater also boasts class-leading interior room as well as an "abundance" of storage compartments including 16 cup holders. Mitsubishi was light on specifics but confirmed the Xpander will have a digital multi-information d...

Daihatsu's Bringing Two New Concepts To Indonesia Show

Image
Going back 110 years, Daihatsu is one of the world's oldest manufacturers of internal-combustion engines. But that doesn't mean it can't look towards the future, like it has with these two new concepts. Set to be unveiled at the Indonesia International Auto Show in Jakarta this weekend are the Daihatsu DN Multisix and the DN F-Sedan. The Japanese automaker (now wholly owned by Toyota) has given us very little to go on – just a couple of photos and few details – but the show cars clearly demonstrate a new design language for the brand. The DN Multisix is ostensibly a six-passenger minivan (or MPV as they're often called overseas) with more of a crossover look – but nothing like the Chevy Uplander and Pontiac Montana with which GM tried to make the minivan relevant to sport-ute buyers a decade ago. Meanwhile the DN F-Sedan – somewhat unfortunately named considering the “Did Not Finish” racing connotation – takes the form of a compact sedan with a liftgate (like Sko...

New Mitsubishi ''Next-Generation MPV'' Has A Bold Front End And A 3-Row Interior

Image
Mitsubishi has officially dropped the veils off the new MPV that will debut at the Indonesia International Auto Show that takes place from August 10 to August 20. Previously referred to as the Expander, the vehicle's official name has yet to be revealed, but the automaker says that they will make the announcement during the automotive event. Until then, it simply refers to it as the 'Next-Generation MPV'. Said to combine the "SUV toughness with MPV roominess", it features a bold design that was clearly inspired by the some of the brand's concept cars that debuted over the last few years. It has LED DRLs mounted on each side of the grille with the headlights are positioned right beneath them. There is nothing dramatic going on on the sides, and the conservative looking rear end does seem to come in contrast with the bold front fascia. Opening the door will reveal a roomy cabin that can take in up to seven occupants in 3 rows of seats. Nothing else ha...

Mitsubishi Teases Production Version Of XM MPV Concept

Image
Mitsubishi will reveal a new small MPV, to be reportedly named Expander, at the upcoming Indonesia Auto Show. The new model will be basically the production version of last year’s XM Concept and will blend the practicality and versatility of an MPV with the style of an SUV according to Mitsubishi. The new model is styled after Mitsubishi’s latest design language, featuring the characteristic front grille, L-shaped taillights and sharp creases on its sides. The new Mitsubishi Expander will be produced at the company’s new factory in Indonesia. Power will come from a 1.5-liter petrol engine mated to a CVT gearbox that features six virtual ratios in manual mode, according to the local Autonetmagz. The interior will reportedly host three rows of seats for up to seven passengers and despite the compact dimensions. We still don’t know if there are any plans for Mitsubishi to offer the new Expander outside select Asian markets but we’ll find out once it debuts on August 10. ...

Geely's MPV Concept Doesn't Look Half Bad

Image
Geely has just presented its MPV Concept in Shanghai and as yesterday’s teaser image suggested, it looks quite attractive. The design of the Geely MPV somewhat reminds of Mazda’s eye-catching Nagare design language from the mid-2000s, particularly at the front end where the lower grille incorporates curved strakes and bold lines. We can also see a bit of Kia in the front grille but overall, it is a very distinctive design and certainly one of the most impressive MPV’s we’ve laid eyes on. At the sides, the MPV concept ditches traditional wing mirrors in favour of small cameras and has a strong character line running from the front of the doors through to the taillights. The B-, C- and D-pillars have also been blackened out to give the impressive of a floating roof which itself is made almost entirely from glass. The rear of the concept is certainly head turning as well and includes thin, horizontal taillights and sophisticated lines. Of the interior shots available, we can also...
