McLaren Shows Off 570LT’s Exhaust Ahead Of Official Unveiling

Image
While there’s a brand new McLaren model coming to the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed next month, the official unveiling will thankfully take place sooner, on June 28th, in an online setting. The car, previously teased at the beginning of June, hinted at a new location for its dual exhausts, which were removed from the diffuser and planted behind the engine cover – sort of like what they did for the Senna. So if you thought they would go the same route as with the 675LT or the 720S, this latest teaser proves otherwise. This new model, announced under McLaren’s Track22 business plan, will be driven up the Goodwood Hill Climb for the very first time on Thursday, July 12. It will feature more power, minimized weight, optimized aerodynamics and better driver engagement. Like the Senna, which is the most recent model revealed by the Woking crew, the 570LT will also be available in limited numbers, making it the most exclusive Sports Series model to date. As for the previous tea...

McLaren Special Operations Reveals New Race-Inspired MSO X

Image
McLaren’s MSO division showcased their latest special MSO X models, based on the 570S. McLaren Newport Beach commissioned 10 MSO X cars that are designed and engineered to emulate the look and feel of the 570S GT4 race car but retain their road-legal status. The whole project took just eight months to be finished, from concept to reality and the finished cars were presented at a special customer event in Las Vegas. On the outside, the new MSO X mirrors the appearance of the 570S GT4 as closely as possible and even comes finished in liveries inspired by the legendary F1 GTR endurance race cars. The big rear wing provides an extra 100kg of downforce while the rest of the package includes a roof snorkel, dive planes, an MSO Titanium Super Sports exhaust, Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and a GT4-style bonnet with air intakes that work in conjunction with the roof snorkel. The bodywork also makes extensive use of satin-finish carbon fiber, including the roof, bonnet,...

McLaren Debuts New 570S Spider, Costs £20,000 More Than The Coupe

Image
Powered by a 570 PS 3.8-liter twin turbo V8, the new £164,750 McLaren 570S Spider is said to be just as quick as its fixed roof sibling. Following the success of the new 720S Launch Edition, McLaren will apply the same formula to the 570S Spider, kicking things off with 400 Launch Edition models. "The McLaren 570S Spider is the most attainable McLaren Spider to date and adds yet another dimension to the McLaren Sports Series family," stated McLaren CEO, Mike Flewitt, adding that its mid-engine layout and carbon fiber chassis "guarantee the same thrilling dynamic performance and exceptional driver involvement enjoyed in a 570S Coupe." With the 570S Spider, McLaren can now add a third body style to their Sports Series portfolio, alongside the Coupe and the GT models. However, unlike those two, the 570S Spider features an integrated retractable hardtop, which can be lowered or raised in as little as 15 seconds, at speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph). The hardtop ...

New McLaren 570S Spider Convertible Coming This Year

Image
Following the introduction of the 570S, 540C, and 570GT, McLaren's Sports Series family is now getting ready to welcome its fourth member - the 570S Spider. After speaking with the company's chief, Mike Flewitt, Autocar reports that the drop-top model will be launched this year, and just like the larger and defunct 650S Spider, it should use a folding hard-top. Even though it will add a few kilograms on top of its fixed roof sibling, the new McLaren 570S Spider is believed to be able to match the coupe's naught to 100km/h (62mph) sprint of 3.2 seconds, and will probably come close to its 328km/h (204mph) top speed as well. The 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8, which is the core of every modern McLaren, except for the 720S, where its displacement has increased by 200cc, will be able to push the same 570PS (562hp) and 600Nm (443lb-ft) of torque as in the 570S. The Woking-based car company won't make a convertible version of the lesser 540C, Flewitt confirmed, while addi...

McLaren 570S Sprint Unveiled In All Of Its Glory

Image
With the  2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed  in its sight for making its world premiere, the McLaren 570S Sprint has just been unveiled by the British manufacturer. Based on the 570S Coupe, the track-only Sprint is the  most hardcore model yet  in the Sports Series lineup. It features the familiar 3.8-liter mid-mounted twin-turbo V8 engine, mated to a 7-speed SSG transmission.  Performance numbers have yet to be released, but the automaker states that power and torque levels have been optimized "to ensure the ultimate levels of driver engagement and the best levels of noise". Given McLaren's naming strategy that uses the car's output with a letter suffix (e.g. 650S), we presume the Sprint retains the same output as the  road-legal 570S , that is 570 PS (562 HP) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque.  The  track-oriented 570S  features center-locking lightweight cast magnesium wheels wrapped in Pirelli racing slicks, while the suspension retains t...

The McLaren 570GT is slower and softer, and maybe that's a good thing

Image
If there was ever a car that could do with a bit less going on, it's the new  McLaren  570S. The company's design chief, Robert Melville, says that McLaren design is a "purist statement" with no excess. We think he need to examining the prescription of his spectacles. In the case of the 570S particularly, there's a distinct possibility that less might actually be a great deal more. Now, meet the new GT version of the 570S, which makes its debut at the  Geneva Motor Show  next week. The on-sale date is in July, with the first US deliveries taking place in late 2016. This is a case where GT does not mean performance, but instead the traditional definition of Grand Touring. With a swipe of his felt tip pen over a just a few panels (roof, rear wings, and deck), Melville and his team transformed the look and mien of this British mid-engine  supercar . They've transformed its usefulness, too, with a sizeable hatchback behind the driver and passenger that gives a...
