Lamborghini Squadra Corse has taken the wraps off the new Urus ST-X concept. Created for a unique racing series that combines off-road driving with a traditional circuit, the Urus ST-X concept has an aggressive design and a matte Verde Mantis livery. Lamborghini didn’t go into too many specifics, but the racing crossover has been equipped with a ventilated carbon fiber hood, larger air intakes and 21-inch center-locking wheels with Pirelli tires. A closer inspection also reveals carbon fiber mirror caps, a small rear wing and “lateral racing exhausts with a new hexagonal design.” Since the crossover was designed for competition, it has been outfitted with a number of FIA-approved safety features including a steel roll cage, a fire suppression system and an FT3 fuel tank. Lamborghini Squadra Corse also worked their magic on the Urus and this led to a 25% weight reduction compared to the standard model. Lamborghini has officially re-entered the SUV sector, as their brand new, high-performance Urus SUV looks ready to slay any and all opponents in its segment. According to Lamborghini, the Urus' 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 engine will help it fit in perfectly alongside the Aventador and the Gallardo, and based on sheer numbers alone, it's easy to understand why. With 641 HP (650 PS) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque at its disposal, the Lamborghini Urus is able to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds, 124 mph (200 km/h) in 12.8 seconds, and a top speed of 190 mph (305 km/h). We’re about three weeks away from the official debut of the new Lamborghini Urus but images of its interior have already surfaced online. Courtesy of Instagram user altdynamic, the images reveal the dashboard of the new Lambo SUV which features the latest display technologies of the VW Group mixed with the Italian company’s familiar hexagon-based theme. Just like the latest generation of the Audi A8 and A7, the new Lamborghini Urus makes use of two digital displays, one for infotainment purposes and one for the HVAC controls while the driver’s gauges are digital as expected. The air-vents follow a similar design with the Huracan while the center console appears to have the same flip-switch red cover for the engine start/stop button. Lamborghini is reportedly going to reveal the all-new Urus on December 4 at the company’s Sant’ Agata HQ. The first cars are also expected to be delivered to customers from mid-2018, according to Stefano Domenicali who spoke at the Automotive News Europe Congress. Lamborghini is currently experiencing a major turning point in its history, as it races to double production capacity at its factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese, ahead of the Urus launch. Details about the powertrains of Lamborghini’s much awaited Urus were revealed by the company’s boss, Stephano Domenicali. Domenicali said during an interview with AutoNews that the 2018 Lamborghini Urus will be powered by a 650hp twin-turbo V8 as standard, with a plug-in hybrid model to follow a year after the car’s official launch. Lamborghini plans to build 1,000 units of the Urus in 2018 and 3,500 annually starting from 2019. Domenicali said that if demand proves to be higher, the production rate could grow as well. The new model is expected to be revealed towards the end of the year at Lamborghini’s factory in Sant’ Agata. The new Urus will be produced there, alongside the Huracan and the Aventador. Chinese automaker Zotye, perhaps best known for building the SR9, a blatant copy of the Porsche Macan, will unveil a new concept heavily inspired by the Lamborghini Urus at this month’s Shanghai Auto Show. Previewed by two rather appalling sketches, the vehicle, dubbed the Concept S, adopts a side profile and rear end almost identical to the Urus. That includes the same doors, squared wheel arches, a similar taillight configuration and the same rear bumper, though outfitted with six tailpipes. Credit where credit’s due, the front end of the Zotye Concept S is more distinctive, even if the company’s rendering isn’t very life-like (check out the rear wheel!). Included in the design are a set of small and sharp headlights attached to slim air intakes and a front bumper that may have been inspired by the Urus but is quite a bit different. Lamborghini chief executive Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that  production of the Urus  SUV will kick off in April. The ex-Ferrari Formula 1 boss made the revelation during an interview with  Digital Trends  but said that the initial models built will be prototypes and not production-spec models bound for customers. “Production will start in April, though the plant will initially build pre-series models. As you know, this is an entirely new process so the first few cars will be prototypes. It’s a very delicate period, which is why 2017 will be a very important year or us. Don’t underestimate the big step we’re taking,” Domenicali said. The upcoming Lamborghini  Urus  will indeed be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the first of its kind for the Italian brand. Lamborghini research and development chief Maurizio Reggiani confirmed the news to  Autocar  and said that the Urus's hybrid powertrain will be the only found within the brand's line-up and that it will be available alongside a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. At this stage, it isn't known if the hybrid option of the Urus will come from within the Volkswagen Group or if it will be developed in-house by Lamborghini. There's certainly a possibility that it could be similar to the hybrid powertrain thought to be in development for a new variant of the Bentley Bentayga. As the Urus  inches closer to production , it becomes abundantly clear that it will be a proper Lamborghini. Various reports have suggested that the model won’t shy away from Lamborghini's mental roots, offering the same amount of lunacy as you’d expect from a car bearing the Raging Bull. Even CEO Stefano Domenicali said it in an interview with  Car Advice :  “Yes. It’s a pure Lamborghini. This was one of the most important discussions, it is outstanding. The things we discussed several times and feedback from the board was for it to be a real Lamborghini.
