All-New 2019 Ford Focus ST Breaks Cover With 280 PS 2.3L EcoBoost

Image
Following several test prototype sightings and no teasers whatsoever, Ford has lifted the veil off its all-new Focus ST hot hatch. Just like its predecessor, the new Focus ST is available with two engine and two body style flavors. The big news is the gasoline version ditches the 2.0-liter turbo-four for a larger, more powerful 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit that makes 280 PS (276 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque from 3,000 rpm to 4,000 rpm. That’s 12 percent more power and 17 percent more torque compared with the previous Focus ST’s 2.0-liter gasoline unit. According to Ford, that results in a 0‑100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint of under 6 seconds. For the first time, the Focus ST benefits from an electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) that improves traction and stability, as well as Selectable Drive Modes. The all-aluminum 2.3-liter unit benefits from lessons learned with the Ford GT supercar and F-150 Raptor pickup as it features anti-lag t...

2020 Ford Explorer ST Packs 400 HP And Looks The Part

Image
Ford’s re-engineered Explorer is officially the automaker’s most powerful SUV ever thanks to a 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine, projected to put down 400 HP and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm) of torque. Ford is also calling the Explorer ST the “most fun-to-drive” Explorer ever, and says that flat out, it can do 143 mph (230 km/h), aided by its quick-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive system with selectable traction control. “We designed it to be an ST from the beginning,” stated Ford Performance chief functional engineer, Ed Krenz. “There’s no mistaking its ST DNA. It has a performance feel with sustained performance capability and wears an unmistakably ST appearance. More than anything, it’s just a hell of a lot of fun to drive.” Speaking of visuals, buyers can spec the 2020 Explorer ST with the ST Street Pack and an ST Track Pack. Both offer 21-inch aluminum wheels, performance brakes with larger vented rotors, red-painted calipers with stainless s...

The New 2019 Ford Edge ST Is The Sharpest Yet

Image
Mention the letters ST around hot-hatch enthusiasts and they're bound to light up. But the latest addition to the Ford Performance lineup isn't a Fiesta or a Focus. In fact it isn't a hatchback at all (though it does have four doors and a tailgate). It's an SUV. Feast your eyes on the new Ford Edge ST, the sharpest version of Dearborn's midsize crossover yet. It's like the existing Edge Sport, only more so. Under the hood sits the same 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 as the Edge Sport, but instead of 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, the Edge ST offers up 335 hp and 380 lb-ft. That puts it closer, in terms of output, to the Focus RS than to the Focus ST. The engine's also mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission (instead of the old six-speed slushbox), with standard all-wheel drive – but while the steering wheel has paddle shifters, sadly a manual is not available. It's the most powerful engine that Ford's ever fitted in this mo...

This Is The 2018 Ford Fiesta ST, And It Has A 200 PS 1.5L Turbo With Cylinder Deactivation

Image
With just a little over a week to go until the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Ford have officially unveiled the new generation Fiesta ST. Building upon the regular versions, the hot hatch uses a newly-developed 1.5-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine that pushes out 200 PS (197 HP) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque, allowing it to go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.7 seconds, or 0.2sec faster than before. Users can shift between three different driving modes: Normal, Sport and Track, which enable engine, steering and stability controls to be configured from motorway to track day condition. Additionally, the new Fiesta ST also features what Ford claims to be an industry-first cylinder deactivation system for a 3-banger, which reduces fuel consumption in conditions where full capacity is not needed, and drops the CO2 emissions to an anticipated 114 g/km. This technology can disengage or re-engage one cylinder in 14 milliseconds, or 20 times faster than the blink of an eye. Us...

Ford Fiesta ST200 adds more spice to a great hot hatch

Image
The new  Ford Fiesta  ST200, which will debut at the  Geneva Motor Show , will offer hot hatch fans in Europe an even more powerful version of the already fantastic model. Upgrades to the 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder allow it to produce 197 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque, and temporary overboost for up to 20 seconds takes those figures to 212 hp and 236 lb-ft. The company also shortens the final drive ratio to 4.06 – from 3.82 currently. The ST200's upgrades are healthy improvements over the current  Fiesta ST  in Europe, which makes 180 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque (197 hp and 214 lb-ft during overboost). They would even be welcome additions in the US because the version here already has 197 hp, but it has 202 lb-ft – 12 lb-ft less than the new variant. The extra power lets the hotter hatch sprint to 62 miles per hour in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 143 mph. In comparison, the current  Fiesta  ST in Europe takes 6.9 seconds to get to 6...
