With the unveiling of the plug-in hybrid versions of the Renegade and Compass at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Jeep has taken an important step into the future. The smallest member of the brand’s family, the Renegade, combines a new 1.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, for a total output said to stand in the 190-240 PS (187-237 hp / 140-178 kW) range. With the battery fully charged, it can be driven for around 50 km (31 miles) on electric power, at no more than 130 km/h (81 mph). When the ICE kicks in, the Renegade PHEV takes approximately 7 seconds to hit 100 km/h (62 mph). The new plug-in hybrid version of the Compass enjoys up to 240 PS (237 hp / 178 kW) of combined power. It’s time to bid farewell to Jeep’s dated Compass and Patriot siblings and say hello to the brand’s compact replacement for both models, the 2017 Compass that slots between the Renegade and Cherokee, being closer in size to the latter.  While we’ve already seen plenty of  unofficial pictures  of the  new Compass on the web  these past few weeks, Jeep officially unveiled the SUV today to mark the start of production at FCA’s Jeep Assembly Plant in Goiana, Brazil. And the more we look at it, the more it reminds us of a compact Grand Cherokee, which  kind of makes sense, given the more characterful  Renegade and Cherokee in Jeep’s current lineup, which might not be to everyone's taste. Jeep’s replacement for the Compass/Patriot duo  has been leaked again , this time from China with the photos revealing almost everything we need to know.  The new Compass, as it’s expected to be called, is heavily inspired from its big brother, the Grand Cherokee.  Unlike the Cherokee , Jeep played it safe this time and gave the new Compass a much less divisive exterior design. The car you see in the pictures is actually the locally-produced Chinese model, set to debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November, according to  NetEase  which uploaded these photos. Jeep has decided that having two compact SUVs was not such a wise choice, so it will replace the  Compass  and  Patriot  with a single model this fall - and these are the first images of the final product . Nabbed in Brazil by  Autoo , they show that the upcoming small Jeep is,  as we expected , more or less a scaled-down version of the Grand Cherokee rather than something more radical like the Renegade subcompact. It will debut in Brazil at the end of this month, make  its US debut  at the LA Auto Show in November and hit the market  in early 2017 . The C-SUV, as it is internally known, will be based on a bigger version of the Small Wide 4x4 platform of the smaller  Renegade  and the Fiat 500X.
