New Koenigsegg Gemera Is A Four-Seater ‘Mega-GT’ With Massive Scissor Doors And 1,700 HP

Image
Koenigsegg made the surprise reveal of the new Gemera, the company’s first-ever four-seater model that’s been described as a “Mega-GT” by the company’s boss Christian von Koenigsegg. “The Gemera is a completely new category of car where extreme megacar meets spacious interior and ultimate environmental consciousness,” said Koenigsegg. “We call it a Mega-GT.” The Swedish supercar maker made the reveal of the new Gemera from their stand at the canceled Geneva Motor Show. The new Gemera can comfortably fit four passengers and their carry-on luggage inside its cabin, which is accessed by a pair of massive dihedral doors. The wheelbase is 3 meters long (118 inches), ensuring there’s plenty of space inside. As expected from the first four-seat Koenigsegg, the cabin of the new Gemera is filled with creature comforts like front and rear seat central infotainment displays, front and rear wireless phone chargers, Apple CarPlay, On board internet and Wi-Fi, 11 speaker state of th...

Koenigsegg Stuns The World With New 300MPH Jesko Hypercar

Image
Koenigsegg has finally revealed the replacement of the Agera RS and its name is Jesko, as a tribute to Christian Koenigsegg’s father. The new Swedish hypercar is capable of reaching 300mph (482km/h), according to Koenigsegg’s own simulations, thanks to a heavily modified twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 that can produce up to 1,578hp (1,600PS) on E85. Christian even kept the new hypercar’s name a secret from his father until the last moment, when they revealed the new Jesko at the Geneva Motor Show. Jesko von Koenigsegg is a key presence within the company, helping Christian establish Koenigsegg as one of the leaders in the supercar world. The revised V8 engine now features a flat-plane 180-degree crankshaft that’s 5kg lighter and allows it to rev up to 8,500rpm and produce more power and an “even more visceral sound”. The two turbochargers are connected directly to a small electric compressor, which drives air to them from a 20-liter air tank (made out of carbon fiber of course). K...

Koenigsegg Teases Agera’s Successor At Dealership Opening Down Under

Image
Koenigsegg only builds a handful of its high-value hypercars each year, and sells them through a small network of dealers around the world. So the opening of a new showroom might be news in and of itself. But what’s caught our attention here is not the opening of the dealership, but what the manufacturer showed there. At the opening of the new franchise at Lorbek Luxury Cars in Melbourne, Australia, this week, Koenigsegg showed guests this teaser sketch for its next exotic hypercar. Billed as the replacement for the Agera RS, the new model is slated to be unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show next March. With the Agera RS and Regera hybrid both completely sold out, this as-yet unseen new model is the only one that Koenigsegg currently has available for order. And we don’t know much about it yet. From the bare outline, the bodywork (at least from behind) looks completely different to those of the Agera or Regera – curvier than the former, and more aggressive than the latter, e...

Koenigsegg To Reveal Even More Hardcore Hypercar At Geneva 2019

Image
The Geneva Motor Show has just wrapped up its press days, but already some are starting to look to next season. That includes Koenigsegg, which came to the show this year with two Regeras and a restored CCX – models we’ve already seen, but never seem to grow tired of seeing again. Next year, though, Christian von Koenigsegg and company will have something new to showcase. And we already have early indications that it’ll be even more extreme. “We have a replacement car coming after the Agera RS,” Koenigsegg told Top Gear. “The Regera is, let’s say, the best car we can build for ‘normal road use’. It’s a kind of GT car. The replacement for the Agera, Agera RS and One:1 is not a hyper-GT. It’s more race-like. It’s even more capable than the Agera RS.” Sounds promising, though we’re not sure at this point whether the new car will be another version of the Agera, or an altogether new model. Both are expected to be in the pipeline. Either way, we can expect to find the same esse...

Koenigseggg Agera RS Clocks A Potentially Record-Breaking 278 MPH

Image
There's a high-speed grudge match going down between several manufacturers to see who can make the fastest street-legal production automobile. And the latest blow has been struck by Koenigsegg. Though details are still to be confirmed, the Swedish supercar manufacturer revealed late yesterday that it managed to clock 277.9 miles per hour in an Agera RS. The feat was accomplished in the desert around Pahrump, Nevada, driven by factory test driver Niklas Lilja. The speed was taken as an average, as per generally acknowledged standards, of runs in both directions in order to account for wind speed, and was recorded not on the car's own instruments, but by a separate Racelogic module. If confirmed as official, the achievement will shatter the previous record that has stood since 2010 when the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport clocked 267.8 mph, verified by the Guinness Book of World Records. The new Chiron is said to be capable of 288 mph, but has to date “only” reached 261 mp...

Qoros' Koenigsegg-Developed K EV Is A Taste Of Things To Come

Image
As consumers become increasingly attracted to high-performance, all-electric sedans, Chinese automaker Qoros has unveiled its K EV at the Shanghai Auto Show. The car has been created with the help of Koenigsegg who last year, debuted their revolutionary FreeValve Qamless engine in a separate Qoros concept. As the name implies, the K EV doesn’t rely on an internal combustion engine and is instead totally electric, making use of four electric motors, one to drive each wheel. All up, Qoros says the car delivers a total of 870 hp and will be capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in under 2.7 seconds, putting it right in the mid-2 second range most current or future EV sedans seem to be targeting. It will then top out at 162 mph (260 km/h) and alongside the impressive performance, be capable of travelling over 300 miles (482 km) on a single charge. Underpinning the Qoros K EV is a carbon fiber monocoque and from the outside, the car looks like nothing else on the road...

Qoros' Koenigsegg-Powered Supercar Concept Revealed Ahead Of Shanghai Debut

Image
Just the other day, Chinese-Israeli automaker Qoros previewed a new concept it's been preparing for the Shanghai Auto Show. Those dark renderings gave us little to go on, but this latest (albeit solitary) image shows us the full monte, as it were. Called the Model K-EV, the concept stems from an ongoing partnership between Qoros and Koenigsegg. The Swedish firm has already furnished its Chinese partner with its FreeValve camless engine design, and now it has hooked up Qoros with the same kind of transmission-less all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid powertrain as it applied to the Regera. Exact details on the powertrain's output and capabilities have yet to be revealed, but as you can see, it's enveloped in a cutting-edge design – which also encompasses some innovative features. It has an unusual asymmetric aperture layout, with an automatic gullwing door on the driver's side, a dual-hinged front passenger door (that can open either outwards like a conventional door or...

Koenigsegg’s Latest Bespoke Agera ‘RS1’ Arrives In NY Auto Show

Image
This is the new Koenigsegg Agera RS1, the latest Swedish hypercar set to make its public premiere at the New York Auto Show. Koenigsegg tells us that the latest bespoke version of the Agera RS is specifically named as ‘RS1’ by its owner. As you would expect from a bespoke vehicle of this caliber, he and his son were “intensively involved in the entire specification and build process”. Finished in Arctic White with blue details on the front winglets, side skirts, diffuser and rear wing, the Agera RS1 is joining the small and exclusive family of US-spec Koenigseggs. The cabin is dominated by the use of bright blue Alcantara which is combined with polished carbon fiber and black anodized aluminum on the dashboard. Power comes from the company’s known beast, a hand-built twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 with 1,360hp and 1,011lb-ft of peak torque. This colossal amount of power runs through a seven-speed automatic gearbox, sending the RS1 to 62mph from rest in 2.8 seconds and on to 186mph ...

The Brand New Koenigsegg Agera RSR Is The Last Of Its Breed

Image
With the  introduction of the Regera , Koenigsegg’s Agera model is on its way out. But it won’t leave in a hurry, or without a bang.  Manufactured since 2011, the Agera constantly evolved into an ultra-exclusive , overpowered hypercar, with the One:1 and RS variants representing the model’s climax. But it looks like the small, independent Swedish car maker left its best for last, unveiling the RS-based RSR as the swan-song for the line-up. This “ final variant ” was announced as a three car series at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, and each one has been commissioned by Koenigsegg Japan. Visual-wise, the RSR comes with a removable hardtop and with its own identity (although only Koenigsegg aficionados would be able to tell it apart from the RS), featuring the One:1 styled roof scoop, a custom-designed venture at the rear with adjustable winglets and the top-mounted rear wing available as standard.  The three units, finished in turquoise blue, black and white (each with a ta...

Koenigsegg Reveals Gold-Trimmed Blue-Carbon Agera RS Naraya

Image
Last week in Monterey, Koenigsegg delivered the  first Agera RS homologated for the United States  to its eagerly awaiting owner. And now it's about to do the same at the  Salon Privé Concours d'Elegance  with the model's first European delivery. But it's far from “just another” Koenigsegg. Dubbed “Naraya” by its owner (whose  identity  remains undisclosed), this particular  Agera RS  has been constructed and finished, both inside and out, in blue-tinted carbon fiber. But the most striking feature could be the gold trim. Koenigsegg flew in Italian craftsman Ettore “Blaster” Callegaro, who spent two full weeks – working 12-hour days, six days a week – applying the 18-carat gold leaf embellishments by hand. As if the result weren't blinged-out enough already, the Naraya also features a nameplate bedazzled with 155 artificial diamonds.  The finished product just goes to show that there's no limit to how flashy even a multi-million-dollar supe...

Koenigsegg Developing 1.6-Liter Engine With 400 Horsepower

Image
Koenigsegg  is not a company known for making small engines but mind-boggling supercars. It does take the road less traveled, though, choosing innovation rather than convention. This time, it is keen to apply the lessons it learns from developing its supercars to more practical forms. To that end, the company is reportedly developing a much smaller engine: one displacing just 1.6 liters. Though details are scarce at this early point, an engine of that size usually has four cylinders and Christian von Koenigsegg anticipates it will develop a solid 400 horsepower. “The same principles with which we designed the Agera and Regera engines can be applied to these smaller engines,” he  told  CarBuzz . “By reducing the bore and elongating the stroke of the piston, we are able to lessen the heat losses from the engine. We’ve also used forged pistons, forged connecting rods, and higher quality valves that make engine as efficient as possible.” Christian points out that “Koenigse...

Koenigsegg SUV not happening

Image
Koenigsegg has ruled out the possibility of launching a sport utility vehicle. We have bad news for fans of high-performance SUVs – Koenigsegg won’t build one and the information was recently confirmed by the company’s boss and founder Christian von Koenigsegg. Speaking to  Top Gear  at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, he commented the vehicles from this segment are “fundamentally flawed.” He noted that the automaker is able to retune its supercar chassis into one suitable for a SUV model, so technically he sees no problem in building such a model. “To make our carbon chassis into an SUV, you’d have to stretch that chassis. You’d keep the front and rear ends as they are, go more extreme on the thickness of the honeycomb, you’d put a carbon cage structure up top… technically I don’t see a big issue with it.” But Koenigsegg is not a fan of SUVs and the Swedish manufacturer is not planning to launch one. “It’d be a pretty wild SUV because you’d have ...

Koenigsegg Teases Last Ever Agera And Production-Spec Regera

Image
At last year’s Geneva Motor Show, Koenigsegg  took us by surprise with  the mind-blowing Regera . So to make sure this doesn’t happen again, here’s what the Swedish firm plans for this year’s event.  Basically, the exclusive automaker is preparing to unveil not one, but two world premieres at Geneva, part of the the company’s three model display. The Regera will be there, obviously, but it will be appearing for the first time in production guise, after 12 additional months of development and 3,000 changes later – as Koenigsegg puts it. And remember, this is a ~1500 hp hybrid, gearbox-less hyper-machine that we’re talking about, which we hope will retain all its major traits.  Next on the list is the unveiling of the final  Agera model range , with Koenigsegg believing that its most successful model of all times should be sent out in style. That said Geneva 2016 will see the premiere of the final Agera model series ever.  The third model will be a brand-ne...
