2021 Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 Is Your 302 HP Entry Ticket Into AMG SUVs

Image
Alongside the regular powertrains of the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLA, the automaker also debuts the GLA 35 entry-level AMG model. Going by the full name of Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4MATIC, this performance model is the seventh member of the automaker’s compact family to wear the ’35’ designation, following the A-Class hatch, A-Class sedan, A-Class L sedan for China, CLA Coupe, CLA Shooting Brake, and GLB SUV. As with these models, the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 306 PS (302 HP) at 5,800 rpm and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque at 3,000 – 4,000 rpm. The engine is hooked to an eight-speed AMG Speedshift DCT 8G dual-clutch automatic transmission with manual mode that sends power to all four wheels via the standard-fit AMG Performance 4MATIC variable all-wheel drive. Thanks to this setup and the Race-Start launch control function that also comes standard, the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in...

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA Is A Curvy And Youthful Little Crossover

Image
Mercedes has unveiled its all-new, second-generation GLA, looking to put pressure on small crossovers like the Audi Q2 and Ford Focus Active, while also joining the new GLB to target more traditional SUV-shaped vehicles such as the Audi Q3 and BMW X1. Ultimately, all these compact-sized models will be cross-shopped by buyers who are either unaware or don’t care about niche-segments invented by automakers. According to Mercedes, the new GLA is taller than its predecessor by over 10 cm (3.9 inches), which is a little weird given the fact that it’s also shorter and wider, hence the slightly more bulbous appearance. Overall though, it still looks like a raised compact hatchback. Back to its dimensions, the new GLA is 173.6 inches (4,410 mm) long, 72.2 inches (1,834 mm) wide, stands 63.4 inches (1,611 mm) tall and has a 107.4 inch (2,729 mm) long wheelbase. It is 0.6 inches (14 mm) shorter, 1.2 inches (30 mm) wider and 4.1 inches (104 mm) taller than its predecessor, while the w...

Mercedes Recalls Half A Million Vehicles For Unexpected Airbag Deployment

Image
Mercedes-Benz has announced the recall of nearly half a million vehicles across the United States due to a problem with their airbags. According to the recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the driver's airbag could unexpectedly deploy under certain conditions – but only if two problems arise at the same time, and apparently owing nothing to the massive Takata recall we'd associate with this kind of problem. If the air bag clockspring is broken, and an electrostatic discharge occurs, then the airbag in the steering wheel could deploy accidentally. That doesn't strike us as a scenario likely to happen very often. But since the deployment of the airbag could be disruptive, to say the least, it's probably a good thing that Mercedes is calling in any vehicles that could be affected. Included in the recall are various variants of the CLA, GLA, GLK, GLC, GLC Coupe, B-Class, C-Class (sedan, coupe, and convertible), and E-Class (sedan, w...

Daimler Road Map Reveals Mercedes-Benz GLA Coupe, E-Class All Terrain And More AMG GTs

Image
Hidden inside Daimler's half-year sales  results  is a small image that depicts what the Germans have in store for 2017. Joining the  GLC Coupe  and  GLE Coupe , the new GLA Coupe will be one of the first additions to the range. It will probably carry an identical front end as the  regular GLA , the same interior layout and probably most (if not all) of the engine lineup, waiting patiently for BMW to make a similar move with a possible  X2 . The E-Class family is also bound to expand beyond the current Sedan and Estate, with a  two-door Coupe  and the  hairy-chested All Terrain , which will rival the likes of the Audi A6 Allroad thanks to its increased ride height, plastic body claddings and adjustable air suspension. We also have the  E-Class Convertible  on this list, which is currently undergoing testing, so chances are it will go official the year after, when the  CLS  is also expected to turn the page. Mercede...
