My Take On: The Grand Tour's (Unfulfilled) Potential

Image
Around 15 years ago, the BBC started a new car-themed show called Top Gear . The show had 3 hosts, named Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond. I started watching the show around 12 years ago, and I loved it, simply because it was about 3 men having fun, driving great (and ridiculous) cars, and bringing some humor while doing it. I've been watching this show for 11 years! Regularly. Then came a time when many people complained about some of the jokes being repeated over and over again. And despite feeling the same thing, I continued to enjoy what was the best motoring show....... in the world. During their many years, they made us laugh by tripping over themselves, made us cry (remember the Aston Martin video ?), raced a McLaren F1 against a Bugatti Veyron and raced a Veyron against a Jet fighter, and some washing-machine style aircraft. They made us realize that cars are more than just something to get us from point A to point B, and why we love them so much. Bu...

Top Gear Test Track To Make Way For Housing Development

Image
The Dunsfold Aerodrome, better known as the  Top Gear Test Track  to us car enthusiasts, is set to be transformed into a housing and business development. The  BBC  reports that the Waverley Borough Council approved the plans on Wednesday and will see the closure of all the runways and up to 1,800 homes built. Additionally, the existing Dunsfold Business Park which already houses over 100 businesses will be expanded to create many additional jobs. If the Dunsfold Aerodrome was any regular unused airport, not much may have been made of this decision for car fans. However, it throws a spanner into the works at Top Gear HQ who have been using the facility since the show was relaunched by Jeremy  Clarkson  and Andy Wilman in 2002. Ever since , and even after the original hosts spectacularly left, the Dunsfold Aerodrome has been used to test the world’s leading performance cars, providing one of the rare places for cars to be tested with the same driver in th...

Image
After months of coming up with  ridiculous names  for their new Amazon Show, Clarkson Hammond and May finally got it: The Grand Tour -  TGT  for short or  GT  for those of you who like sticking their tongue in their cheeks.   It might not impress and excite at first, but the show’s name hides a comprehensive and captivating theme behind it, as it will feature short films shot in different locations around the globe, while the studio audience portion will also take place at a different location around the world every week,  as Jeremy Clarkson  cared to explain: “Thing is, we’ll be travelling the world hosting each episode in a different country, from a giant tent. It’s a sort of ‘grand tour,’ if you like. So we’ve decided to call it ‘The Grand Tour.’” Like on Top Gear, the pre-recorded studio segments of the program will be filmed in front of a live audience, all housed within a giant tent – so, if you were wondering what possibly can ...
