Bentley has just unveiled two brand new versions of its third-generation Continental GT and GT Convertible models, both available with a new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 petrol unit, producing 542 HP (550 PS) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque. In a straight line, the Coupe can rocket to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds (Convertible 4.0 sec), and will top out at 198 mph (318 km/h). Customer deliveries in the U.S. will commence in Q3 of this year, with availability for other regions to be scheduled starting in Q1 of 2020. The new-generation 4.0-liter 32-valve V8 unit features dual twin-scroll turbochargers located inside the ‘V’ of the engine. The 550 PS and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) are sufficient so as to help both versions (Coupe and Convertible) stay within 0.1 seconds of each other. Back in 2016, Land Rover stated that the classic Defender wouldn’t return to production. The automaker, though, didn’t say anything about special edition models. While it’s easy to get excited and think that the Defender is back, this variant of the iconic Defender is a limited-edition model. The Land Rover Defender Works V8 is meant to mark Land Rover’s 70th anniversary and pays homage to the automaker’s early models that were equipped with V8 engines. Powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that 400 horsepower (405PS) and 380 pound-feet of torque, Land Rover claims that the special-edition model is the fastest and most powerful Defender ever. The engine is matched to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox with sport mode. With the combination of the V8 and the quick-shifting transmission, zero to 60 mph (96km/h) takes just 5.6 seconds. Replacing a car like the previous-gen Vantage is an incredibly difficult task since that model was universally praised for its drop-dead gorgeous looks but Aston Martin has made it look easy with the breathtaking new Vantage. Everything is new on Aston Martin’s latest sportscar, from the chassis to the powertrain and from the onboard technology to the clever aero agenda. Power comes as expected from the AMG-sourced twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that here makes 503hp (510PS) and 505lb-ft (685Nm) of torque. Paired to it is an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, with Aston Martin hinting at a manual option later on. The Chevrolet Camaro news continues as General Motors has taken the wraps off the 2018 COPO Camaro. Set to be shown at SEMA later this month, the updated model can be equipped with an all-new 302 Gen V Small Block engine. Chevrolet declined to release performance specifications but said the engine is based on the 6.2-liter LT1 V8 that resides in the road-going Camaro SS. Despite the similarities, the engine has been built specifically for drag racing and it features unique components including a shorter-stroke crankshaft that allows for "exceptional high-rpm capability." Customers can also choose to equip their COPO Camaro with either a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 or a supercharged 5.7-liter V8 that allows the car to run the quarter-mile in the mid-8-second range. Joining the V12-powered DB11 that was launched last year, and the newer AMG V8-powered model, this third member of the DB11 family features a fabric roof, available in a choice of Bordeaux red, black silver, and grey silver. The soft-top has new acoustic and insulation materials, and 8-layer roof cossets, that keep occupants away from the wind noise and unpleasant weather. It takes 14 seconds to lower and 16 seconds to raise, and it can be operated at speeds of up to 31mph (50km/h). Aston Martin promises that the new roof mechanism is as reliable as they come, after testing it to the extremes in special weather conditions, where it was subjected to more than 100,000 cycles, thus compressing 10 years of use into one month.
