If there’s one thing most car enthusiasts regret about Sergio Marchionne’s reign at Fiat Chrysler it’s the fact that he let the Lancia brand die a slow and painful death. Sure, Lancia built a new Delta, but it had nothing to do with the original model that brought the brand so many rallying victories and street credibility in the 1980s. As you may have heard, there is a new Lancia Delta coming our way, but the company behind it is not FCA. Automobili Amos, a small Italian firm founded by racing driver Eugenio Amos, teased its Lancia Delta restomod earlier this year, and now it’s releasing more juicy details. Singer and its clients are apparently no longer content with simply sprucing up old Porsches, as comprehensive as the restomod process may be. Now the California specialists have unveiled an altogether more advanced take on the classic German sports car, and the result is billed as “the most advanced air-cooled Porsche 911 in the world.” Called the Dynamics and Lightweighting Study (DLS), the project stems from a partnership between Singer Vehicle Design and Williams Advanced Engineering, the client division of the Formula One racing team. It packs a 4.0-liter flat six with four titanium valves per cylinder, a unique lubrication system, F1-inspired throttle, and various magnesium internal components. The result is 500 horsepower delivered at a screaming 9,000 rpm. That’s the same redline, output, and displacement as a modern GT3 RS, but still air-cooled. Singer has been working with Williams Advanced Engineering for their latest project which is a rather stunning reimagined 911 that received newly-developed lightweight and high-performance modifications. The project was born under the Dynamics and Lightweighting Study (DLS) name, with Singer partnering with Williams and other world-renowned specialists, including Michelin, Brembo and BBS Motorsport. It’s hard to choose a highlight on this magnificent creation, but if you have to pick one it has to be the new four-valve, four-camshaft naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine with 500hp, developed by Williams with consultation from none other than Hans Mezger, the legendary Porsche engineer. Other details include the new underbody and surface aerodynamic enhancements, again by Williams and Porsche Motorsport legend Norbert Singer, via computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Ringbrothers have shown a number of interesting vehicles over the years but this is the first time the company has unveiled a pickup at SEMA. Dubbed Clem 101, the pickup started out as a rusted 1954 Ford F-100 but it has been transformed into 1956 restomod. As part of the build process, Ringbrothers swapped out the truck's cab and built the bed from scratch. The company also extended the wheelbase by seven inches and utilized a custom Ford Crown Victoria subframe that was narrowed by five-inches to fit the F-100. The model also features wider fenders with narrower openings as well as hand-made running boards and custom doors. Elsewhere, the team installed a custom trailer hitch and billet accents such as the hood hinges and cargo tie downs. Other notable features include an original 1954 grille, modified chrome bumpers, and 19- / 20-inch HRE wheels which cover six-piston Baer brakes. Ringbrothers and Prestone have teamed up to introduce a 1972 AMC Javelin AMX called the Defiant! Currently on display at SEMA, the Defiant! is being billed as the wildest car ever created by Jim and Mike Ring due to its "extreme appearance, cutting-edge construction techniques, and four-digit power output." Speaking of the latter, the car has a 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 engine which has been equipped with a 4.5-liter Whipple supercharger, a Holley Dominator fuel management system, and a Flowmaster exhaust. Thanks to these changes, the engine produces a staggering 1,036 hp (772 kW). It is connected to a Bowler automatic transmission which sends power to the rear-wheels through a carbon fiber driveshaft. Ringbrothers didn't stop there as the company extended the Javelin’s wheelbase by moving the wheels forward six and a half inches. Ringbrothers has dropped two new teaser images of two very exciting muscle cars it will premiere at the SEMA Show. Joining the Ford F-100 on the builder’s booth will be an extreme 1972 Prestone AMC Javelin AMX and an extensively-modified 1969 Dodge Charger. The Javelin, teased above, will be dubbed ‘Defiant!’ and come fitted with the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 Hellcat engine, now complete with a Whipple 4.5-liter blower. Consequently, the Javelin will deliver in excess of 1,000 hp. Further modifications will include carbon fiber bodywork, a Flowmaster exhaust, HRE wheels and Baer brakes. As for the tuned 1969 Dodge Charger, it’s been baptized ‘Defector’ and reportedly took 4700-man hours to build. Compared to a standard Charger, its body has been shortened by two inches, the chassis stretched by three and a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 from Wegner Motorsports fitted. “They don’t make ‘em like they used to” because they’re actually making them better.  Although classic car aficionados won’t admit it (that easily), owning and maintaining  an old automobile  can be a pain in real life. It requires dedication, expertise, patience, and money, but when everything runs smoothly, as it’s supposed to, the experience of owning such a vehicle is very rewarding. If you’re not into tinkering and dedicating your spare time to fixing something that’s supposed to make your life easier (not the other way around), but you still fancy the beautiful 1960s and 70s bodies, then restomodding might be what you’re looking for.
