Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled their latest interpretation of the C-Class. One of the company’s most valued models, the C-Class, has long been the junior-executive class’s champion, with 10.5 million units sold since 1982. For several years, it was the entry-point to Mercedes-Benz ownership, to which many aspired. Nowadays, with multiple “A” and “B” models, the C-Class is no longer an entry-level product. However, it remains a pillar of Mercedes’ brand strategy, along with other legacy nameplates such as the E-Class and S-Class. The new C-Class Sedan brings with it some noticeable changes to the C philosophy. The concept of downsizing has been embraced, with all six-cylinder and V8 power plants shown the door. Mercedes has unveiled the 2019 C-Class Coupe and Convertible ahead of their debut at the New York Auto Show. Following in the footsteps of the facelifted sedan and wagon, the models have been equipped with new bumpers, a revised grille and updated LED High Performance headlights. The models also have restyled LED taillights and a newly available Night Package on the convertible. The interior sees a host of minor revisions including the addition of a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls. Designers also installed a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a turbine-style start/stop button and an updated touchpad controller with haptic feedback. The changes don’t stop there as the ambient lighting system now offers 64 colors and the updated LINGUATRONIC voice control system can adjust additional settings such as the heated seats. On the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes introduced new C- and E-Class plug-in hybrids. Set to go on sale this summer, the models will be equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine, a nine-speed automatic transmission and a third-generation hybrid system. Mercedes was coy on specifics but confirmed the models will have a 13.5 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that produces 122 PS (90 kW) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque. This will give the models an electric-only range of approximately 50 km (31 miles) and a total torque output of 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). The cars will also be able to hit speeds of up to 140 km/h (87 mph) while being driven by electricity. Speaking of electric power, the plug-in hybrids will be equipped with a new on-board charger which doubles the charging rate from 3.6 kW to 7.2 kW. The onslaught on Mercedes news continues as the company has taken the wraps off the facelifted C-Class sedan and estate. Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the updated models feature the usual styling tweaks including new bumpers and revised lighting units with “clear-lined contours.” While the styling changes are subtle, the 2019 C-Class can now be equipped with Multibeam LED headlights featuring “ultra range” high beams. Mercedes says each headlight has 84 individually controllable LEDs which quickly and precisely adjust the light to suit the current traffic situation. The interior largely carries over but there are a handful of features which have trickled down from the S-Class. Mercedes-Benz has announced the recall of nearly half a million vehicles across the United States due to a problem with their airbags. According to the recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the driver's airbag could unexpectedly deploy under certain conditions – but only if two problems arise at the same time, and apparently owing nothing to the massive Takata recall we'd associate with this kind of problem. If the air bag clockspring is broken, and an electrostatic discharge occurs, then the airbag in the steering wheel could deploy accidentally. That doesn't strike us as a scenario likely to happen very often. But since the deployment of the airbag could be disruptive, to say the least, it's probably a good thing that Mercedes is calling in any vehicles that could be affected. Launched just a few years ago in 2014, the current Mercedes-Benz C-Class is hardly what we'd call “old.” In fact it's younger than the CLA, CLS, or S-Class. But without a major facelift in the three and a half years since introduction, it's hardly the freshest in the German automaker's portfolio. Fortunately for Daimler, that's just what it has in store for the compact luxury sedan. At least, it is, if these spy shots are any indication. Spotted testing in southern Europe, this C-Class prototype is wearing enough camouflage to tell us something's in the works – but not as much or as heavy cladding as before. From what we can (or more specifically can't) see, it would appear that Mercedes is preparing to update the styling of the front and rear bumpers, reshape the grille, fit new headlights, and revise the interior. Mercedes will start the 2016 open-air season by presenting the  new C-Class Cabriolet  at the 86th Geneva Motor Show.  The convertible version of the C-Class was already  scooped numerous times  and a few days ago  an official sketch  was released. It shares the same architecture with the rest of the C-Class range and it's obviously based on the Coupe, set apart by the electrically-retractable soft top, which will be  available in several hues .  Prospective buyers will get to order the  BMW 4-Series Cabriolet  rival with variety of four-, six- and eight-cylinder engines, and the lineup is expected to be completed at a later time with the addition of an AMG variant, developing 503hp and 700Nm (516lb-ft) of torque, from the 4.0-liter V8.  Joining the  C-Class Cabrio  at Geneva will be the Mercedes-AMG S 63 Cabriolet Edition 130, which commemorates the invention of the automobile 130 years ago, and the  Smart For...
