Land Rover has just unveiled its all-new Defender at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, breathing new life into a legendary nameplate that can now stand toe to toe with the world’s most technologically-advanced off-roaders. Based on the new D7x architecture, the new Defender will launch in spring 2020 in Defender 110 configuration available with 5+2 seating in four distinct Accessory Packs: Explorer, Adventure, Country and Urban. It will be joined later in 2020 on by the short-wheelbase Defender 90 and the Commercial model. The automaker claims the 2020 Defender is the toughest and most capable Land Rover vehicle yet as it combines a new body structure with all-new technologies and proven hardware to make the nameplate fit for the 21st century. Land Rover has introduced the 2020 Discovery Sport which features a new design, upgraded technology and eco-friendly engine options. Looking instantly recognizable, the model has a “refined evolution” of its previous design. As a result, styling changes are minor but include modified bumpers and restyled LED lighting units. The crossover has also been equipped with a new grille and an assortment of wheels that range in sizes from 18- to 21-inches. The updates continue in the cabin as the Discovery Sport has a new three-spoke steering wheel, a revised center console and higher quality materials.  Drivers will also find a new digital instrument cluster and a more modern 10-inch Touch Pro infotainment system. Land Rover is getting into the holiday spirit by releasing a new teaser image of the 2020 Defender. Showing the model being unloaded from a trailer, the teaser says “Do not unwrap until 2019.” This suggests the Defender will be unveiled next year, but Land Rover also hinted additional information will be released on December 27th. While the teaser image is surprisingly low resolution, that isn’t much of a problem as spy photographers have already caught the three- and five-door variants undergoing testing. Those photos show the model will have a bit of a resemblance to the LR3, while also being unmistakable as a Defender. In terms of styling, the Defender has a squared off front fascia with a small grille that features a horizontal bar. Further below, we can see a rounded bumper and mesh screens which likely hide large air intakes. Moving further back, the model has pronounced fender flares and slab-sided bodywork. Say hello to the second-generation Range Rover Evoque, arriving seven and a half years after production of the outgoing model commenced. Despite the age gap, the crossovers share an obvious resemblance. In designing the all-new 2019 Evoque, Land Rover opted against ditching the current model’s much-loved sporty design and have retained the same basic shape we’re familiar with. Viewed from the side, the new Evoque’s profile is almost identical to the original. That’s no bad thing, however. While the Evoque’s shape hasn’t changed much, it does look significantly different in its second generation. At the front, Land Rover has taken obvious design inspiration from the mid-range Velar incorporating similarly-slim headlights and a narrow front grille. In certain specifications, the 2019 Evoque has largely-identical front air intakes to its older sibling. The Range Rover Evoque is one of the few crossovers offered in three body styles but it appears the company has quietly decided to drop the three-door variant. In a statement to Autocar, a Land Rover spokesperson confirmed the news by saying “From the 2019 model year, Land Rover has rationalized its Range Rover Evoque body style offering to concentrate on the five-door model and convertible, which account for the majority of sales.” There’s no word on how many Evoque coupes the company has managed to sell but the publication says sales dropped off after the convertible variant was introduced. Sourced also indicated sales of the five-door variant account for as much as 95% of overall Evoque sales. Land Rover has released the first teaser image of the Range Rover SV Coupe ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Billed as the “world’s first full-size luxury SUV coupe,” the model will be built by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations and feature a “seductive body design” as well as a “supremely refined interior.” The company isn’t saying much about the model but it was recently caught undergoing testing. Photos showed the coupe will have a familiar design but adopt a sportier greenhouse and a more dynamic roofline. The interior photo released by the company reveals an upscale cabin with premium leather upholstery, wood trim, and a full-length center console. Back in 2016, Land Rover stated that the classic Defender wouldn’t return to production. The automaker, though, didn’t say anything about special edition models. While it’s easy to get excited and think that the Defender is back, this variant of the iconic Defender is a limited-edition model. The Land Rover Defender Works V8 is meant to mark Land Rover’s 70th anniversary and pays homage to the automaker’s early models that were equipped with V8 engines. Powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that 400 horsepower (405PS) and 380 pound-feet of torque, Land Rover claims that the special-edition model is the fastest and most powerful Defender ever. The engine is matched to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox with sport mode. With the combination of the V8 and the quick-shifting transmission, zero to 60 mph (96km/h) takes just 5.6 seconds. Land Rover has made the decision to kill off the Range Rover Evoque three-door in the United States. Motor Authority reports that the British automaker pulled the plug due to poor demand for the model in the U.S., where it was easily out-sold by the five-door and the two-door convertible. Sales of the three-door Evoque will continue in other international markets. In a bid to update the popular SUV, Land Rover is currently developing a next-generation model, expected to arrive in late 2018 as a 2019 model year in the U.S. The new model will retain the same D8 architecture as the current car but a host of new technologies will be featured.
