RWD Audi R8 Makes A Comeback For 2020 As A Member Of The Range, Not A Limited Run

Image
The rear-wheel drive Audi R8, which was introduced a couple of years ago, has returned for the 2020MY, albeit with a few changes and a new moniker, as it’s now named the V10 RWD instead of the RWS. More importantly, though, it’s not a limited edition anymore, as it joins the R8 family as a production-series model. Available in both body styles, Coupe and Spyder, it will launch in European markets early next year, priced from €144,000 ($159,875) and €157,000 ($174,310) in Germany, respectively. The new R8 RWD sports a few visual updates on the outside that allow it to fly under the radar – well, as much as it can with that shape, anyway. These, according to Audi, include the front splitter, air inlets and air outlet grille at the rear that have become broader. Moreover, the diffuser has moved upwards and incorporates two oval tailpipes, and the side blades further hint at the nature of the car: the top one is finished in glossy black, whereas the bottom blade is painted in t...

Audi Sport Reveals New R8 LMS GT2 As Its More Powerful Customer Race Car

Image
Audi Sport chose this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed to reveal the new R8 LMS GT2 race car, which is set to compete in the new GT2 class from 2020 on. The new version of the Audi R8 is the most powerful customer race car ever offered by Audi Sport, with the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine producing 630hp (470kW), mainly thanks to its new exhaust system. With the new R8 LMS GT2, Audi joins Porsche as the second manufacturer to commit to the GT2 Class, which aims to fill the gap between the existing GT3 and GT4 classes. GT2 race cars are designed to offer less downforce than the GT3 cars and are scheduled to make their racing debut in Europe and North America next year. The new Audi R8 LMS GT2 comes with a significantly wider bodywork than the production R8, featuring a new front bumper, a huge rear wing and a roof-mounted air intake for the engine. Audi says that around 55 percent of their new GT2 racer is shared with the road-legal R8. “The Audi R8 LMS GT2 ...

Audi’s New Limited R8 Decennium Pays Homage To The V10 Engine

Image
Audi revealed the new limited Decennium edition of the R8 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the V10 engine that powers its supercar. Available solely as a coupe, the R8 V10 Decennium looks special from the get-go, thanks to its exclusive Daytona Gray paint finish and the milled matte-bronze 20-inch wheels. The intake manifold of the engine is also finished in the same bronze hue, while exterior features such as the front spoiler, the side sills and the diffuser are painted gloss black. The side blades and exterior door mirror housings are made out of gloss carbon fiber. Inside we get an entirely black cabin, featuring inlays of carbon fiber and a diamond-quilted stitching pattern for the seats. Contrast stitching in gloss copper can be found on the gear selector and the steering wheel, which also comes with a black 12 o’clock marking. Other model-specific parts include a special logo on the center console, the doors, the inlays on the carbon sill trims and elsewhere...

2019 Audi R8 Debuts With Sportier Styling And More Powerful V10 Engines

Image
Audi has officially unveiled the 2019 R8 Coupe and Spyder. Set to go on sale in Europe early next year, the facelifted models have a more aggressive design as they adopt a wider Singleframe grille and three hood slits that pay tribute to the iconic Ur-quattro. Elsewhere, designers installed a new front splitter and more aggressive air intakes. Additional styling changes are limited, but Audi says the model has a new three-piece engine cover that is available in either plastic or carbon fiber. Speaking of options, there will be up to three exterior styling packages which add “various highlights to the front splitter, the side trims and the diffuser.” The updated model also offers two new colors – Kemora Gray and Ascari Blue – and optional high-gloss black badges. Interior changes are limited to new color options which include “pastel silver with rock gray contrasting stitching, palomino brown with steel gray stitching and black with utopia blue stitching.” The range-toppi...

Mysterious Audi R8 Teased For 2018 Paris Auto Show

Image
Audi has something new in store for the 2018 Paris Auto Show, a mysterious R8 that will debut next Tuesday, but what is it? Based on the teaser pic dropped by Audi Sport on social media, it’s clearly an R8, given the headlight signature, wide stance and four rings logo that sit on the front hood instead of the grille. Look closely at the image and you’ll notice a couple of air vents on the hood, which have something very LMS-ish in their design. So, is this an indication that Audi is perhaps readying a different derivative of their racer? It could be, but until we have official confirmation, we cannot be certain if this is the case. Besides the rumored R8 racer, Audi is also working on a facelifted version of the second generation R8. Prototypes of the car were seen in motion testing in different parts of Germany these past few months, with vinyl stickers covering most of their front and rear ends, as well as the lower profile. The camouflage suggests that this is where Audi h...

Audi Races To SEMA With TT Clubsport Turbo Concept And Sport Performance Parts

Image
The SEMA Show kicks off tomorrow and Audi of America will use the event to introduce a TT RS which has been equipped with an assortment of Audi Sport Performance Parts. Starting with the exterior, the model will have a handful of "aerodynamic enhancements" that have been developed in a wind tunnel. The company was coy on specifics but the images suggest the car will be identical to the one shown earlier this year. As a result, we can expect canards, carbon fiber air ducts, and a prominent rear wing. There should also be an assortment of carbon fiber components including mirror caps and a rear diffuser. On the handling front, the TT RS will have a two-way adjustable coilover suspension and additional chassis bracing. There will also be "brake system enhancements" and 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels with high-performance tires. Rounding out the changes are a titanium exhaust system and an upgraded interior with an Audi Sport Performance steering wheel. ...

Limited Edition Audi R8 V10 RWS Is A Supercar Made For Purists

Image
Audi has revealed the new member of the R8 family, the limited edition RWS which stands for Rear Wheel Series. The new R8 V10 RWS will be available in both the Coupe and Spyder versions and, as you might have guessed already, is exclusively rear-driven, ditching the all-wheel drive the standard model uses. “A limited-edition special model for customers with an appreciation for essential driving enjoyment, the R8 V10 RWS is an absolutely exclusive offer,” said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH. “With its mid-mounted V10 engine and rear-wheel drive, it successfully brings the driving concept of our R8 LMS racing car to the streets.” Power comes from the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter FSI V10 of the “normal” R8, meaning 540PS (532hp) and 540Nm (398lb-ft) of peak torque. Audi claims a 0-62mph (100km/h) in 3.7 seconds (Spyder: 3.8 seconds), 0.3 seconds slower than the R8 V10 Quattro, and a top speed of 198mph (Spyder: 197mph), 1 mph off what the all-wheel drive mod...

New Audi R8 V10 Spyder Debuts In Plus Guise With 601HP

Image
The all-new Audi R8 V10 Spyder Plus is the most powerful convertible ever made in Ingolstadt. Joining the likes of the second generation R8 Spyder, which debuted last year, it features all the goodies you'd find in its fixed-roof sibling, and then some. At its heart, it carries the 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine that now makes 610PS (601hp) and 560Nm (413lb-ft) of torque, pushed to all four corners through a sporty 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Tipping the scales at 1,587kg (3,499lbs), or 25kg (55lbs) less than the regular R8 Spyder, this German supercar needs just 3.3 seconds to reach 100km/h (62mph) from a standstill, and it will keep going up to 328km/h (204mph). This represents a 0.3sec and 10km/h (6mph) improvement over the lesser variant. Exclusive to the new Audi R8 V10 Spyder Plus is the micrommata green paint, which is joined by the anthracite gray single frame grille, black tailpipe covers, standard 19-inch wheels or optional 20-inch ones, and a p...
