Mysterious Audi R8 Teased For 2018 Paris Auto Show
Audi has something new in store for the 2018 Paris Auto Show, a mysterious R8 that will debut next Tuesday, but what is it?
Based on the teaser pic dropped by Audi Sport on social media, it’s clearly an R8, given the headlight signature, wide stance and four rings logo that sit on the front hood instead of the grille.
Look closely at the image and you’ll notice a couple of air vents on the hood, which have something very LMS-ish in their design. So, is this an indication that Audi is perhaps readying a different derivative of their racer? It could be, but until we have official confirmation, we cannot be certain if this is the case.
Besides the rumored R8 racer, Audi is also working on a facelifted version of the second generation R8. Prototypes of the car were seen in motion testing in different parts of Germany these past few months, with vinyl stickers covering most of their front and rear ends, as well as the lower profile. The camouflage suggests that this is where Audi has concentrated the visual updates that will put some distance between it and the current models.
Some upgrades will be made under the skin, too, with a rumored GT version expected with as much power as the Lamborghini Huracan Performante. The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine makes 640 PS (631 hp / 470 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque in the Italian supercar, and only 30 PS (30 hp / 22 kW) and 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) of torque less in the R8 V10 Plus. So, it would make sense to give it the extra muscle that might drop its 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time to around 3.0 seconds.
