Chevy Unveils New Colorado ZR2 Bison Performance Truck


Chevrolet has unveiled an all-new performance version of their midsize Colorado pickup truck, dubbed the ZR2 Bison. The vehicle was built in collaboration with aftermarket firm American Expedition Vehicles (AEV).

In order to offer buyers maximum levels of protection for key undercarriage elements while traversing rocky and jagged terrain, the Bison comes equipped with five skid plates covering the engine oil pan, fuel tank, transfer case and front and rear differentials.


AEV designed both the skid plates as well as the front and rear bumpers out of durable hot-stamped Boron steel. The front bumper features winch provisions and standard fog lights, while the rear one has integrated recovery points.

“The Colorado Z71 offers a full suite of off-road equipment, the maneuverability of a midsize truck and the driving range of a class-exclusive diesel engine. The Colorado ZR2 offers even greater off-road capability with class-exclusive front and rear locking differentials and Multimatic DSSVTM dampers. And now, Bison offers customers an even more extreme turnkey off-road truck ready to tackle your next adventure,” stated Chevy Trucks marketing boss, Sandor Piszar.


Visually, the ZR2 Bison boasts an exclusive flow-through Chevy-lettered grille, replacing the traditional bowtie. Then there are the 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tires, larger flared fenders, ZR2 Bison-specific 17-inch alloys, Bison decals, an ‘AEV Bison’ logo on the tailgate and embroidered AEV logo floor liners and front head restraints.

Like the ZR2, the Bison also comes with a modified rear axle with a 3.24 ration, widened front and rear tracks, a lifted factory suspension, plus the previously mentioned Multimatic DSSV dampers and front/rear locking diffs.


As for available options, there’s the 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine, paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox (186 HP/188 PS and 369 lb-ft / 500 Nm of torque), a choice of crew or extended cab configurations, plus available third-party accessories such as AEV’s ZR2 Bison snorkel.


The 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison will go on sale in January of next year.

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different.
