Set to introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, the redesigned model has a new “Sensuous Sportiness” design which looks far more upscale than its predecessor. In terms of size, the 2020 i20 is 0.2 inches (5 mm) longer, 1.2 inches (30 mm) wider and 0.94 inches (24 mm) shorter than its predecessor.  The model also features a wheelbase that has been stretched an additional 0.4 inches (10 mm). Hyundai i20 Supercar Heading To The FIA World Rallycross Championship

Image
The Hyundai i20 is heading to the FIA World Rallycross Championship. Only it’s not Hyundai that’s taking it there. Instead the i20 has been adapted to rallycross spec by GRX TANECO – the team run by two-time world rally champion Marcus Grönholm. The pair of new i20 supercars are based on the platform that Hyundai ran in the 2016 WRC. FIA WRX Supercars pack 2.0-liter turbocharged engines, sending 600 horsepower to all four wheels to deliver 0-60 times of 1.9 seconds. Short of full factory support, the partnership stems from Grönholm’s personal relationship with Hyundai rally team principal Michel Nandan. “We don’t have any manufacturer backing like some of the other teams in World Rallycross,” said Grönholm, “but we have a lot of information from when we bought the cars from Hyundai.” Reached for comment, Hyundai’s motorsport department confirmed that “this is a private project with no manufacturer involvement.” The i20s will replace the Ford Fiestas that GRX has run un...

Hyundai's 2017 WRC Challenger Takes Downforce To The Extreme

Image
The  Paris Auto Show  was chosen by Hyundai for the debut of a prototype of its  i20 WRC  2017 World Rally Championship contender. As we already knew, Hyundai's new  WRC entrant  will be based around the three-door i20 and, compared to the current car, promises to be much faster thanks to the adoption of new technical regulations for the impending season by the FIA. Most significantly,  next year's championship  will see manufacturers adopt 36 mm restrictor plates on the turbochargers, rather than the 33 mm ones currently used. This simple modification will see power from the 1.6-liter engines rise from the current 300-315 hp mark up to 380 hp.  Also for next year, teams have more freedom in the aero parts design, in an effort to increase downforce. Hyundai has done so by outfitting its 2017 challenger with brand new bodywork that includes a different front end, new side skirts, flared front and rear wheel arches, a much larger rear wing a...
