VW has finally pulled the covers off the all-new, eighth generation Golf GTI and its siblings, the plug-in hybrid GTE and diesel GTD. As expected, the new VW Golf GTI isn’t a fan of loud styling exercises, opting instead for a more subtle approach to display its high-performance underpinnings. The front end is dominated by the one-piece honeycomb-pattern lower grille that features the striking, but optional, X-shaped foglights. The standard LED headlights are united via a thin LED strip with another colored strip runs across the width of VW’s iconic hot hatch – finished in red for the GTI, blue for the GTE and silver for the GTD. Moving on to the sides and we find a set of new 17-inch Richmond alloy wheels offered as standard to the Golf GTI. The brand new Volkswagen Golf is officially here, with the German carmaker finally sharing all the specs and images we’ve been waiting for, following a live unveiling event in Wolfsburg. Unlike any other Golf before it, the Mk8 will be available in no fewer than five hybrid drive iterations, two of which will be plug-in hybrids, each with a new 13 kWh lithium-ion battery that allows for 60 km (37 miles) of zero emissions driving. Before we get into its specs, let’s talk design and measurements. The all-new Golf is 4,284 mm (168.6 inches) long, 1,789 mm (70.4 inches) wide and 1,456 mm (57.3 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,636 mm (103.7 inches). Compared to the Mk7, the new model is a little bit longer and shorter, with a slightly larger wheelbase. The body also doesn’t just look sharper, it literally is, lowering the end face to 2.21 m2 and the drag coefficient to 0.275. While VW did not reveal the all-new 8th generation 2020 Golf at this week’s Geneva Motor Show as many of us anticipated, we believe we can make it up with the best and most revealing photos of the popular compact model yet. It’s virtually undisguised, as only the front and rear lights have some distracting fake decals. However, the production car will use similar lighting units on both ends, so styling-wise, we don’t anticipate any surprises between now and its unveiling later this year. VW’s latest design language seems to fit the MK8 Golf pretty well, giving it an overall sleeker and more modern appearance, while also paying homage to the MK7 model, which ditched the MK6’s curvy lines in favor of a sharper look. Still, every single body panel is new on the MK8, and the front end design gives it a squinty, sort of menacing aesthetic, somewhat similar to the Arteon’s. Volkswagen has published a new teaser of the eighth-generation Golf during the recent Volkswagen Brand Annual Session in Wolfsburg. As a teaser from the start of the year indicated, the Mk8 Golf will adopt a sharper and more aggressive shape than the outgoing model. Teased here in three-door guise, we can see the Golf will have thin headlights, a sharp C-pillars, a rear spoiler and a design line running along the sides from the headlights to the taillights. This sketch doesn’t just offer a glimpse of the new model’s overhauled front fascia, but confirms our suspicions about alleged spy shots of the new Golf published in October. Volkswagen has launched a new Performance Pack for the UK market 2018 Golf R, which not only de-restricts top speed, but also shaves some pounds and adds a few extras. Available as an option for the DSG versions of the Golf R hatch and estate, it includes an upgraded braking system that shaves 2 kilograms (4.4 lbs), 19-inch Spielberg alloy wheels that replace the stock 18-inch Cadiz rims, and in the case of the hatch, a new tailgate-mounted spoiler. Moreover, specifying the Performance Pack to the latest iteration Volkswagen Golf R means that top speed will increase in both hatch and wagon variants of the vehicle, from 155mph (250km/h), to 166mph (267km/h) and 168mph (270km/h), respectively. The Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan has gotten in range with the rest of the Golf family. Unveiled ahead of its 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show public premiere, the versatile five-door compact car comes with new bumpers, headlights with LED tech on more expensive models, LED taillights, fresh wheel patterns, and a new Cranberry Red exterior color. Inside, the 2018 Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan has received new decorative trim, fabrics, and leather seats, in addition to the Discover Pro navigation system that features a 9.2-inch display, gesture control, and five capacitive touch buttons along the left border. The Media Control app is also part of the offerings, which provides an interface to the infotainment system for smartphones and tablets, allowing users to control the system from their mobile device. Volkswagen has used the annual Wörthersee gathering to unveil the new Golf GTE Performance concept. Based on the eco-friendly Golf GTE, the Performance concept features an Electric White Mother of Pearl Effect exterior with a black roof and blue accents across the rear of the body. The car has also been equipped with gloss black air deflectors, gloss black side sills, and 19-inch Pretoria-style wheels. Golf fans will also notice the concept's tailpipes and rear diffuser are sourced from the Golf GTI, while the tailgate-mounted spoiler comes from the Golf GTI Clubsport. The interior receives a modest makeover as the company says the concept has exclusive leather sports seats and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with a blue accent in the 12 o'clock position. Volkswagen has unveiled its bold Golf GTI First Decade concept ahead of its public debut tomorrow at the annual Worthersee meeting. The concept, the 10th created by VW apprentices for the Golf event, is powered by a small petrol engine delivering 404 hp through the front wheels and a 17 hp electric motor that drives the rear wheels. Volkswagen says that the car can be configured to be solely front wheel drive, run in all-electric rear-wheel drive mode or in combined mode where both the ICE and electric motor work hand-in-hand. To charge the two batteries in the rear of the hatchback, the 13 Volkswagen apprentices have designed a regenerative braking system. Visually, the Golf GTI First Decade stands out thanks to the dark blue and light blue livery, black and blue wheels, a rear spoiler from the GTI Clubsport and a number of badges reading ‘First Decade’ and ‘10’. In the cabin, blue trimmings can also be found, as can a 1,690-watt sound system with 11 speakers and a subwoofer....

VW is extending the  range of its facelifted Golf family  in Europe with the addition of the high-performance ‘R’, entry level 1.0 TSI, and 2.0 TDI 4MOTION models. As with the other updated 2017MY Golfs, they too come with LED tail lights and the new Composition Color infotainment system as standard. Available in both hatchback and  Variant (station wagon) flavors , the Golf R benefits from a 10PS (10hp) and 20Nm (15 lb-ft) boost, pushing the 2.0-liter turbo four’s output to 310PS (306hp) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft). VW says the ‘R’ hatch can hit 100km/h (62mph) in 4.6 seconds.  In Germany , you can pre-order the Golf R with a manual gearbox from €40,675, and the Golf R Variant with a DSG from €44,800. At the other end of  the spectrum , the base 1.0-liter model, will cost you a little less than half of that at €17,850 for less than a third of the power at 85PS (84hp).
