Porsche Goes Full Beast Mode With New 690 HP 911 GT2 RS Clubsport

Image
Celebrating its world premiere at the 2018 LA Auto Show is Porsche’s spectacular 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, powered by a 3.8-liter flat six twin turbocharged engine, producing 690 HP (700 PS). Technically, this is the racing version of the road-legal 911 GT2 RS (991.2), and if you want that gigantic rear wing hanging off the back of your Porsche, you’re going to have to make sure to purchase one of the first 200 units, because that’s all they’re making. “For the upcoming years, our customers will not only race the GT2 RS Clubsport on track days but also at international motor racing events. We are currently holding very productive talks with the race organizer SRO,” stated Porsche VP of motorsport and GT cars, Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser. Power for the GT2 RS Clubsport goes through a rigidly mounted seven-speed dual clutch gearbox (PDK), eventually reaching the 310 mm (12.2 inches) wide rear wheels. According to the German automaker, traction and braking performance is aided by th...

Porsche 935 Clubsport Racer Debuts With 700 HP

Image
Porsche has used the Rennsport Reunion to stage the surprise unveiling of the new 935 race car. Drawing inspiration from the iconic 935/78, the new model is a limited edition Clubsport race car that hasn’t been designed to compete in any particular series. The car is based on the 911 GT2 RS and features a retro-inspired body which is largely constructed out of lightweight carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) panels. The 935 also features an assortment of components shared with race cars including LED lights from the 919 Hybrid LMP1, side mirrors from the 911 RSR and titanium tailpipes which echo those on the 1968 Porsche 908. Last but not least, there are aerodynamically optimized wheels which mimic those on the 935/78. Moving into the cabin, there’s a carbon fiber steering wheel and digital instrument cluster sourced from the 2019 911 GT3 R. Drivers sit in a Recaro racing seat and are strapped in by a six-point harness. To their right is a unique center console and a l...

Audi Races To SEMA With TT Clubsport Turbo Concept And Sport Performance Parts

Image
The SEMA Show kicks off tomorrow and Audi of America will use the event to introduce a TT RS which has been equipped with an assortment of Audi Sport Performance Parts. Starting with the exterior, the model will have a handful of "aerodynamic enhancements" that have been developed in a wind tunnel. The company was coy on specifics but the images suggest the car will be identical to the one shown earlier this year. As a result, we can expect canards, carbon fiber air ducts, and a prominent rear wing. There should also be an assortment of carbon fiber components including mirror caps and a rear diffuser. On the handling front, the TT RS will have a two-way adjustable coilover suspension and additional chassis bracing. There will also be "brake system enhancements" and 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels with high-performance tires. Rounding out the changes are a titanium exhaust system and an upgraded interior with an Audi Sport Performance steering wheel. ...

Audi Hints At Rolling Out More Hardcore RS Variants

Image
Rolling out a 400 PS compact saloon like  the RS3 Sedan  is no mean feat, but Ingolstadt could get even more feisty in the future.  When asked by  Top Gear  if Audi could follow the Golf GTI Clubsport S’ recipe and offer lighter, stripped-down cars, Stephan Reil, head of Audi’s Sport division said: “Of course we did similar things in the past, the R8 GT for example. I could think of projects where you’d have the visible connection between the race car and the road car.” Reil did state that there’s nothing in the pipeline just yet, though; certainly not for the RS3 and the R8 Spyder, considering they’re fresh out the oven:  “There’s no actual project at the moment, but why not? With the RS3, maybe with another car.” At that moment, he was asked  about the TT RS , to which he replied:  “Maybe. There are a lot of possibilities. You will just have to see. This is always an impulse in the life cycle of the car. You won’t bring that in an ear...

New VW Golf GTI Clubsport S Smashes FWD ‘Ring Record - Beats M4 And Hellcat Too!

Image
VW presented its new hardcore Golf GTI Clubsport S that not only gains the title of the fastest  front-wheel-drive production car  on the Nürburgring, but also eclipses some recent high-output entries like BMW’s M4 and Dodge’s Hellcat. The Golf GTI Clubsport S completed a full lap on the Nordschleife in 07:49:21, versus the new  306hp (310PS) Honda Civic Type R’s  7:50.63, the 425hp BMW M4’s 7:52 and the 707hp  Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat’s  7:51.51. That’s a pretty impressive feat given that the hottest ever production Golf GTI makes a whole lot less power than either of those two rear-wheel drive models, with the re-tuned 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder pumping out 306hp (310PS) and 380Nm (280 lb-ft) of peak torque at between 1,700 and 5,300 rpm. One of the secrets behind the  Golf GTI Clubsport S’ track capabilities  is a 30kg (66 pounds) reduction over the already slimmed down GTI Clubsport pushing its curb weight down to 1,280kg (2,8...
