The 2021 Porsche 911 Targa 4 and 911 Targa 4S models have been unveiled by the German carmaker. Like previous iterations of the 911 Targa, this new one features an automatic roof system that includes a wraparound rear window that Porsche says can be opened and closed in just 19 seconds. Both the 911 Targa 4 and 911 Targa 4S models feature a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. In Targa 4 guise this engine delivers 380 hp at 6,500 rpm and 331 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque between 1,950 rpm and 5,000 rpm. By comparison, the 911 Targa 4S churns out 444 hp and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque from 2,300 rpm to 5,000 rpm. Porsche says the 911 Targa 4 will hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.2 seconds while the Targa 4S will reach the same mark in 3.6 seconds. Porsche has unveiled the all-new 911 Cabriolet less than two months after the coupe debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Looking instantly recognizable, the 911 Cabriolet features an automatic soft top with a lightweight structure that has magnesium bows to prevent “ballooning of the roof at high speed.” The roof also features an integrated glass rear window. Speaking of the roof, it can be opened and closed faster than its predecessor thanks to new hydraulics. The process now takes approximately 12 seconds and the top can be opened or closed at speeds up to 31 mph (50 km/h). When the roof is down, a wind deflector rises to ensure drivers remain comfortable. At launch, the 911 Cabriolet will be offered exclusively in Carrera S and Carrera 4S guise. Porsche has released the first pictures of the next-generation 911. Described as the “heart of the company” and “not simply a sports car,” the 911 has an evolutionary design which is instantly recognizable. While the pictures don’t reveal much, previous spy photos have shown the car will have an LED brake light strip and a high-tech interior with several digital displays. Porsche isn’t ready to talk about specifics but 911 boss August Achleitner said the model will generate a “driving feeling that no other car can impart.” The company says this includes everything from the “astonishing amount of space” to the “perfect feedback from the brakes, steering and pedal system.” Porsche said these and other characteristics – such as a one-of-a-kind design – make the 911 the epitome of a sports car. With Porsche’s new generation 911 (992) still in its testing phase, it was only a matter of time until we got to see what it looked like on the inside as well. The exterior has been pretty well documented, especially with all the lightly-camouflaged prototypes driving around recently. Its cabin however was a different story. Until now, we only suspected that it borrowed heavily from the all-new Panamera, and from what we can see, it both does and doesn’t. For starters, the touchscreen infotainment display is far from being as large as the Panamera’s 12.3-inch one, and the center console has a lot more physical buttons and switches than you’d find on the 911’s four-door sibling. The overall dashboard design is also different, not just compared to the Panamera’s, but to the current 991’s too.
