Audi has taken the wraps off two new additions to the e-tron family: the Q4 e-Tron and its slopped roof sibling, the Q4 e-Tron Sportback. With these compact electric SUV offerings, Audi hopes to expand their line-up, with the aim of offering more EVs in the US market than any other luxury manufacturer by the end of the year.  The Q4 e-Tron represents the smallest Audi EV as yet. Unlike the larger e-tron SUV which is based on the ICE-centered MLB Evo architecture, the Q4 e-tron is built upon Volkswagen’s new MEB platform. The MEB platform also underpins the ID.4, and is dedicated to EVs.  Both the regular Q4 e-tron and the Sportback will be offered in the US in a single battery/motor configuration but with two different performance variants. The 77 kWh battery is standard, while other markets such as Europe will see a smaller (and cheaper) 52 kWh version. The Audi Q4 e-tron concept SUV has just premiered at the Geneva Motor Show which opened today for the Press and on Thursday for the public. It shares many styling traits with other ‘e-tron’ badged models in Audi’s range, but also has enough unique characteristics. At the front, the Q4 e-tron concept features a large silver faux front grille and a set of angular air intakes. There’s also a glowing e-tron badge in the lower part of the bumper and a pair of slim headlights which appear slightly softer than the aggressive lights found on other Audi models, including the Q8. Being a concept, it sits on a set of massive wheels and tires which probably won’t make their way into production. The rear end is dominated by a pair of taillights with a mixture of sharp lines and curved edges connected with an LED light bar stretching the width of the rear. The Geneva Motor Show kicks off next week and Audi is gearing up for the event by releasing a new teaser for the Q4 e-tron concept. Designed to preview an upcoming production model, the concept is an electric crossover which is slated to feature an aggressive design. That being said, the Q4 e-tron has a large Singleframe grille that resides above prominent e-tron badging. It’s also interesting to note the concept uses traditional side mirrors instead of video camera mirrors like the 2019 e-tron (in some markets, at least). Previous sketches have suggested the concept will have a rakish windscreen and a ‘floating’ roof. We can also expect plastic body cladding, a thick rear pillar and heavily stylized bodywork. After officially confirming their plans to launch the new Q4 in 2019 last month, Audi have now announced that the Gyor, Hungary plant will be responsible for its production. Audi has yet to detail the car, but says that the new Q4 will benefit from a coupe-like silhouette and will slot between Q3 and Q5. It's believed that the latest member of the brand's 'Q' family of SUVs will share the same underpinnings and some of the powertrains as the latest Q5, while adding more premium materials inside. It will challenge the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, BMW X4 and Range Rover Evoque. Joining it on the same assembly lines in Hungary will be the next Q3, starting in 2018, but until then, the compact vehicle will continue to be produced in Martorell, Spain.
