Aston Martin has officially unveiled the new DB11 AMR at the opening of the AMR Performance Center at the Nürburgring. Combining power and elegance, the DB11 AMR features an upgraded twin-turbo 5.2-liter V12 engine that produces 630 hp (470 kW / 639 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a recalibrated eight-speed automatic transmission which enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 208 mph (334 km/h). The performance improvements extend beyond the engine as Aston Martin says the chassis has been refined to offer a “greater sense of connection without harming the supple ride.” The company was coy on specifics but the model features a limited-slip differential and adaptive dampers. Harnessing its expertise with Mercedes engines, Brabus and its Startech division have boosted the output from the AMG-sourced 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 to an impressive 610 horsepower (448 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. That’s not just more than the 503 hp (375 kW) and 498 lb-ft (675 Nm) in the standard V8, but considerably more than the 600 hp (447 kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) boasted by the V12 model. Joining the V12-powered DB11 that was launched last year, and the newer AMG V8-powered model, this third member of the DB11 family features a fabric roof, available in a choice of Bordeaux red, black silver, and grey silver. The soft-top has new acoustic and insulation materials, and 8-layer roof cossets, that keep occupants away from the wind noise and unpleasant weather. It takes 14 seconds to lower and 16 seconds to raise, and it can be operated at speeds of up to 31mph (50km/h). Aston Martin promises that the new roof mechanism is as reliable as they come, after testing it to the extremes in special weather conditions, where it was subjected to more than 100,000 cycles, thus compressing 10 years of use into one month. The worst keep secret in the automotive world is finally official as Aston Martin announced the DB11 will now be offered with an AMG-sourced twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine. Producing 503 bhp (375 kW) and 695 Nm (513 lb-ft) of torque, the new engine propels the DB11 from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.0 seconds and onto a top speed of 187 mph (301 km/h). To put those numbers into prospective, the car's optional twin-turbo 5.2-liter V12 engine develops 600 hp (447 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. Despite the extra power, the performance between the two engines is pretty similar as the V12 model runs from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 200 mph (321 km/h). Part of the reason for the similar performance figures is the fact that the V8 engine is smaller and lighter than the V12.
