The all-new Toyota GR Supra was only introduced for the 2020 model year but the Japanese automaker has gone ahead and made big updates for 2021. No doubt, the big news for the 2021 Toyota GR Supra is the introduction of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, the nameplate’s first-ever four-pot. As expected, it’s also sourced from BMW and it delivers 255 HP at 5,000-6,500 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque from 1,550 to 4,400 rpm. Bridging the gap between the Toyota 86 and the Supra 3.0, the 2021 GR Supra 2.0 base model is far from a slouch. Hooked to the same eight-speed auto as the six-cylinder model, the Supra 2.0 is projected to do 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.0 seconds and reach an electronically limited top track speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Exactly five years after the unveiling of the FT-1 Concept, Toyota has finally introduced an all-new Supra to the world. It was a long gestation period but it’s safe to say the fifth-generation Supra A90 was worth the wait. At the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, Toyota brought the new-gen Supra closer to production by unveiling the GR Supra Racing Concept. However, it seems that the Japanese automaker is not quite done with exploring the range of the upcoming sports car, as they have now announced another study. Called the Toyota GR Supra GT Concept, it will premiere at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon, held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, between January 11 and 13. The only thing announcing its presence at the event, besides the very basic press release, is a teaser image. It shows the profile of the car, featuring a large rear wing sitting on the boot lid and a generously-sized diffuser, along with what seems to be a special color scheme on the outside. The time has finally come for the new Toyota Supra to be revealed; the American arm of the Japanese carmaker confirmed with a press release that their new sports car will be revealed in full production form at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show on January 14. The new Toyota Supra will be offered with two different powertrains, with base versions to get a four-cylinder turbo engine in addition to the six-cylinder we already know of. After discovering a document from German transmission manufacturer ZF that showed that the A90 Supra will be powered by not one but two engine options, Road & Track got a confirmation from none other than Supra chief engineer Tetsuya Tada that this is indeed happening. The document revealed that the lowered-powered version of the 2019 Toyota A90 Supra will use the BMW-sourced turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder B48B20 engine producing 262hp. The six-cylinder version is packing the single-turbo 3.0-liter B58B30 unit with 335hp. Just a few days ago, Toyota hinted that it’d showcase a prototype for the new Supra at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Now with the event set to open in just a few more days, it’s confirmed the show car’s presence, and dropped another photo and additional details in the process. Shown in the image above alongside the previous concept, the latest prototype is heavily camouflaged in a red, white, black, and grey camouflage wrap to disguise its form. But the overall shape can still be seen, and it looks slick. And it won’t be sitting still on the Earl of March’s front lawn, either: it’ll be making the run up the hill, marking its dynamic debut. Toyota will take the new generation Supra to the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed next week, as announced in an official tweet by the company’s European social media channel. Following a report earlier this year, Toyota has announced plans to compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with a new Supra-inspired race car. Set to enter competition on February 16th, the model was jointly developed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD) USA and Calty Design Research. The race car has little in common with the upcoming production model and Toyota noted “TRD and Calty scaled [the] Supra to fit within NASCAR’s specifications for race vehicle entries in the NXS.” While the two models will be quite different, a number of Supra styling cues carryover to the race car thanks to an extensive wrap. Toyota has revealed the Gazoo Racing Supra Racing Concept, giving us a preview of the actual Supra road car that’s due in 2019. Along with the new racing concept came the official confirmation of the new Supra, with Toyota saying that “this concept heralds Supra’s return in a fifth generation”. After years of waiting and countless reports, the new Supra will debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, as confirmed by Toyota. The Japanese carmaker even dropped a teaser image which shows a detail from the curvy bodywork of the car, along with part of a giant fixed rear wing. Back in August, we saw a well-camouflaged 2019 Supra prototype prancing around with a pair of production LED headlights, featuring a thin LED strip for improved daylight visibility. Now, we get to see the production taillights too, which have sort of a flattened "teardrop" graphic. It almost looks like a more modern take on the GT86's taillight graphics, which would make sense, although we can't be sure the GT86 served as a benchmark in any way. In fact, there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the new Supra, a car closely related to the new BMW Z4, though unlike the Z4, the Supra is rumored to only come with an automatic transmission.
