The market for compact luxury crossovers is heating up, with models like the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and X2, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Acura CDX and Infiniti QX30 all vying for market share on the small, but rapidly expanding niche. Lexus has joined the fray with its own contender that was just unveiled in Geneva. Called the UX, it slots below the NX as the new entry level model in Lexus’ lineup. The UX is the first Lexus built on the new Global Architecture – Compact (GA-C) platform that also underpins Toyota models like the Prius, C-HR, Auris, Corollla and Avensis – only this one is , naturally, a premium offering. The styling is pure “new” Lexus, of course, from the Spindle grille on back and the interior looks suitably upscale, drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese design. Want to get into a new Lexus? The CT used to be your point of entry… until Lexus realized people weren’t so interested in spending over $30k on a hybrid hatchback. So it made the NX crossover as its new entry-level model. Now it’s preparing to slot an even smaller, more accessible model in underneath it – and here it is. Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week, the new Lexus UX is shown here for the first time in a solitary image and video clip. Billed as an “urban compact crossover,” the UX is set to take on domestic rivals like the Infiniti QX30 and possibly the Acura CDX in some markets – to say nothing of German targets like the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes GLA. Lexus first unveiled the UX in concept form at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The basic idea is for a small crossover to slot in under the NX and take on the likes of the Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3, BMW X1, Acura MDX, and Infiniti QX30 in a rapidly growing market segment of compact luxury crossovers. The UX will bring Toyota’s luxury SUV lineup up to five models, joining the larger NX and RX crossovers and the GX and LX sport-utes. Not much else is known at this point about the production model, and there’s very little to be gleaned from the teaser image above. But we’re anticipating both UX 250 and UX 250h models to incorporate four-cylinder engines – the latter with a hybrid assist. One way or another, we’ll find out more within the next few weeks. Lexus has confirmed at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show that it will bring its futuristic UX crossover concept to the production line. Unveiled at last year's Paris Auto Show, the UX has a bold design and as we long expected, will see the light of day, but it isn't yet known just how much it will differ from the original concept. While speaking with Motoring in Geneva, Lexus International executive vice president Yoshihiro Sawa said that the model will play an important role in the Japanese company's push to find younger buyers. “Except IS and small car CT, Lexus owners are aged, when it comes to high-end and high loyalty. The loyal users always changing the car but at the same time the average age is going up. But from this year we tried to seek the buyer average that is younger. We try to capture these new younger buyers, so that we change our design ways. “We are doing [UX]. Please expect UX, it’s not so far away,” he said. Carscoops

Lexus continued the tradition of really dramatic looking concepts at  the Paris Motor Show  by revealing in full the UX Concept, a compact crossover study that likely previews a future Audi Q2 rival.  Penned by the company’s ED2 design center in the South of France,  the UX Concept  is previewing the new direction Lexus is about to follow with its future models.  The really sharp appearance wants to combine the presence of a tough off-roader with the usability of a crossover, employing sculptural surfacing with the brand’s now-traditional huge spindle grille. Lexus is drip-feeding us with more information and images of its  new UX compact crossover concept  as we near its world debut in  Paris next week , with today’s release revealing the study’s interior.  The Japanese brand said in a statement that the UX Concept showcases its “vision for a compact SUV of the future” while also representing “new step in the company's design journey and a redefinition of the driving experience”.  In other words, what Lexus is trying to communicate is that, besides previewing the next -and more aggressive- step in the company’s design language, the UX hints at a future small crossover that will slot under the NX to essentially replace the  unsuccessful CT200h as the base model  in its lineup.  “Our brief was to create a new genre of compact crossover; a vehicle that could create something unique from a customer's point of view―an innovative, three-dimensional, fully immersive user experience,” said Stephan Rasmusse...

With just a few weeks left until the 2016 Paris Auto Show opens its gates, new vehicles are starting to reveal their shapes in  official shots , and the Lexus UX Concept is now one of them.  Carrying an edgy exterior that brings it closer to its larger siblings, the  NX  and  RX , the study uses cameras instead of conventional side mirrors and, judging by the handles joined at the B pillar, we might be looking at a pair of rear suicide doors.  The presence of two exhaust pipes, incorporated into the rear diffuser, suggests that an internal combustion engine will be responsible for setting it in motion, but  AutoWeek  states that the propulsion recipe could include a combo between gasoline and electricity, forming a hybridized powertrain.  Since Toyota already  trademarked  the UX200, UX250 and UX250h monikers with the European Union Intellectual Property Office this summer, chances are the automaker will put it into production as...
