Like Americans, Europeans are enamored with SUVs but across the pond, there’s still plenty of love left for station wagons that often prove more popular than their sedan counterparts. With Genesis having taken its European assault seriously, the Koreans have presented their very first estate model under the ‘Shooting Brake’ moniker based on the new G70 compact luxury sedan. Designed with European customers in mind (sorry America), the G70 Shooting Brake will be the fifth model Genesis has confirmed for its market launch in the continent this summer, after the G70 and G80 sedans, and the GV70 and GV80 SUVs. With the Audi A4 Avant, BMW 3-Series Touring and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate in its sights, the 2021 G70 Shooting Brake has identical dimensions to the sedan. The first images of the facelifted 2022 Genesis G70 have been unveiled, showcasing a striking new look fitting of the brand’s current design language. With this in mind, the front of the updated G70 includes the Korean automaker’s new ‘Quad Lamps’ headlights that give the sports sedan a particularly athletic appearance. The front end also includes the Genesis signature crest grille as well as shapely new air intakes and a large lower grille. Fewer changes have been made to the sides of the 2022 model but there are air extractors just behind the front wheels. Genesis has also overhauled the rear fascia of the 2022 G70 with the fitment of its new Quad Lamp taillights that have been inspired by the soaring wings from the Genesis logo. A few hours after the first images of the long-awaited Genesis G70 surfaced online, the Korean sports sedan been revealed in full and is directly targeting the best Germany has to offer. When it goes on sale in Korea, the G70 will be offered with a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6, a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder petrol and a 2.2-liter inline-four diesel. The twin-turbo V6 is the same unit found in the Kia Stinger and drives the performance-oriented G70 Sport, delivering 370 PS (365 hp) and 376 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the 2.0-liter turbo offers up 254 hp and 260 lb-ft and the diesel delivers 201 hp and 324 lb-ft of twisting force. In G70 Sport guise, Genesis says the sports sedan will accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a brisk 4.7 seconds, presumably in all-wheel drive guise. Genesis has confirmed that the long-awaited G70 sports sedan will premiere in Seoul, South Korea on September 15. The G70 will share many of its components with its sibling, the Kia Stinger. However, Hyundai says that the G70 will be more dynamically capable than the Stinger, a car which has single-handily revived interest in the Kia brand. Earlier this year, Hyundai Australia’s PR manager Guido Schenken said the G70 will be “shorter, narrower and lighter than Stinger as well as having a shorter wheelbase.” Like the Stinger, range-topping G70 variants will use a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine but grunt may be increased slightly over the Kia’s 365 hp and 376 lb-ft (494 Nm) of torque. Beyond competing against its stablemate for sales, the G70 will aim to snatch buyers away from the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar. Carscoops

Genesis will reveal its G70 sports sedan this year and says the vehicle will show the Kia Stinger a thing or two. The automaker’s answer to the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the G70 will be underpinned by a rear-wheel drive platform and according to Hyundai Australia, be both lighter and faster than the Stinger, a car which itself can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in a very respectable 4.9 seconds. Speaking about the two cars, Hyundai Australia’s PR manager Guido Schenken told Motoring that "the Genesis G70 and [Kia] Stinger represent different design philosophies and positions in the market." "The Stinger is a five door touring sedan with a hatch, while the G70 is a pure sports sedan. We already know Hyundai's recently launched premium brand has an aggressive plan to establish itself in the market, but this is the first time we can see what  it has in store  for its expansion.  An image allegedly showing Genesis’ future schedule was obtained by the  Korean Car Blog , revealing that the premium brand is planning to launch no less than four new models by 2020.  These include the G70, a 3 Series-rivalling production version  of the New York Concept , two luxury SUVs to rival the likes of Audi’s Q7 and Q5 and a sport coupe that is probably going to be based on the underpinnings of the upcoming G70. According to the image, Genesis plans to reveal the entry-level G70 before 2017, with the rest of the models to follow gradually.
