Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered Concept Has AWD, Does 0-100km/h In 4.3

Image
Peugeot has unveiled a model we never saw coming. Dubbed the Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered Concept, the vehicle will premiere at the Geneva Motor Show and provides a glimpse into the future of the marque’s electrified, performance-focused vehicles. Peugeot Sport created the Engineered Concept by starting with the all-new 508 Hybrid and working its magic on the car’s design, performance, and efficiency. Powering the concept is Peugeot PureTech 200 engine that’s paired with a 110 hp electric motor sending power to the front wheels. A second electric motor, this time with 200 hp, has then been installed and drives the rear wheels. Total torque sits at 500 Nm (368 lb-ft) and Peugeot says that the 508 Sport Engineered Concept can reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds before hitting a mechanically-limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The sedan also features an 11.8 kWh battery that allows for 31 miles (50 km) of all-electric operation. To complement the bespoke powertrain, Pe...

GFG Style Kangaroo Concept Is An AWD EV That Rockets To 62 MPH In 3.5 Seconds

Image
We haven’t heard much from GFG Style lately, but the firm will use the Geneva Motor Show to introduce their new Kangaroo concept. Billed as an “electric hyper-SUV,” the Kangaroo rides on an aluminum space frame platform which was developed in collaboration with CH Auto. The concept’s lightweight structure is covered by a carbon fiber body that appears more supercar than super SUV. The company is keeping details under wraps, but the teaser image reveals the concept will have an aggressive front fascia with a prominent splitter and triangular air intakes. We can also see slender headlights and angular body work. One of the concept’s more defining features is its unique greenhouse which has a domed appearance. The image also suggests there are roof-mounted cameras or sensors as well as upward opening doors. GFG Style was coy on details, but confirmed the Kangaroo is a two-seater that features four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering. The company also said the concept will be ab...

2019 Toyota Prius Facelift Brings Optional AWD For The First Time

Image
Toyota Prius sales are falling in the United States and the automaker is trying to reverse that trend by introducing the 2019 model at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The biggest change is the addition of an electric all-wheel drive system which used to be available in only a handful of markets such as Japan. When equipped, the car comes with an additional electric motor that powers the rear wheels at speeds up to 43 mph (69 km/h). The electric motor is powered by a newly developed Nickel-Metal Hydride battery that has been designed to provide excellent performance in cold weather. The battery fits under the rear seat and doesn’t have any impact on the interior as the model still offers 65.5 cubic feet (1,854 liters) of cargo space. Toyota says the Prius AWD-e should be one of the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive passenger cars in America. This seems possible as the company believes the model will have a fuel economy rating of 52 mpg city, 48 mpg highway and 50 mpg combined. ...

Next Mercedes-AMG C63 Will Definitely Go Hybrid, AWD Possible, Says Boss

Image
With the facelifted models introduced in New York last week, the current Mercedes-AMG C63 range still has a few good years left in it. But when times comes for its replacement, AMG boss Tobias Moers told CarAdvice in an interview that it will ditch the twin-turbo V8 engine and go for a hybrid powertrain. “If you apply proper intelligent hybridization or electrification to a car which is capable of having an always-on strategy regarding the battery and the whole system, then it’s amazing what you can get out of them”, said Moers. “Which means for sure the next-generation Mercedes-AMG C63 will be a hybrid – that’s now a given.” The next C63 is still in its early stages of development, but enthusiasts should expect a force-fed six-cylinder engine, with a small electric motor attached to it. With this move, Mercedes wants to make sure the top-of-the-line C-Class will meet the stringer emissions requirements for the next decade. The car’s soundtrack remains an issue for now, but ...

All-Wheel Drive Now Standard On All Tesla Model S and X Vehicles

Image
Tesla has announced that all new Model S and Model X vehicles will now come equipped with all-wheel drive as standard. It was only three years ago that Tesla first unveiled its dual-motor setup after Elon Musk shared a mysterious teaser image on his Twitter. Since then, an increasing number of Tesla Model S and Model X variants have been introduced with all-wheel drive straight out of the box. All-wheel drive has also allowed the two vehicles to redefine the boundaries of production car acceleration. It’s therefore of little surprise that in its December newsletter, Tesla has decided to announce that it will ditch rear-wheel drive variants of the Model S and Model X. In the newsletter, the automaker pinpoints the improved traction and all-weather usability of all-wheel drive as its key benefits, although we’re sure the added straight-line performance provided by dual electric motors has helped convince Tesla of its superiority over rear-wheel drive. Also, the lack of rear-wh...

Dodge Unveils 2017 Challenger GT AWD With 3.5-Liter V6

Image
We all knew  it was coming  and now it is official, the Dodge Challenger is available with all-wheel drive in the form of the 2017 Challenger GT  AWD . Power for the model comes courtesy of the familiar 3.5-liter Pentastar V6 delivering 305 hp and 268 lb-ft and mated exclusively to ZF’s eight-speed automatic transmission. The Challenger GT AWD then adopts the same transfer case and front-axle disconnect has the  all-wheel drive Charger . Typically, all of the power whipped up by the V6 is sent to the rear wheels. Power only gets funnelled through the front when necessary. From a styling perspective, the model is almost impossible to pick apart from the rear-wheel drive Challenger V6. As standard, it includes parts like 19-inch wheels with all-season performance tires, a subtle rear spoiler and fog lights. In the cabin, customers will be welcomed with heated and ventilated front seats wrapped in Nappa leather, an 8.4-inch infotainment system and a heated steering w...
