2022 Infiniti QX60 Unveiled With Upscale Looks, Modern Tech, And Semi-Autonomous Tech

Image
Ininfiti‘s QX60 midsize three-row crossover was getting long in the tooth, going nearly a decade without many significant updates. Back in September, we got a taste of what the refreshed crossover would look like with the QX60 Monograph concept. Now the production version is finally here, and it has a lot to offer. The 2022 QX60’s design has been changed to be more in line with Infiniti’s current offerings, and features styling nearly identical to the aforementioned QX60 Monograph. Infiniti calls it a combination of “powerful athleticism with harmony and simplicity”, and with its thin lighting elements, gaping grille, and muscular yet smooth fenders, we’d say that’s a fitting description. The fine details of the design are meant to invoke the spirit of Japan, with things like kimono folds in the “Digital Piano Key” headlights, origami in the grille mesh, and a rippling pond in the quilted leather interior. The Moonbow Blue paint is said to be reminiscent of a summer sky at dusk and fea...

2022 Infiniti QX55 Marks The Company’s Return To Crossover Coupes

Image
Infiniti helped to kick off the crossover coupe craze when they introduced the FX nearly two decades ago. The company is now continuing that legacy with the all-new QX55. Set to be launched next spring, the 2022 QX55 combines “unapologetic style with inspired dynamics.” While the model is based on the QX50, it features a sportier and more streamlined design. At the front, there’s a prominent mesh grille which is flanked by LED headlights and sportier air intakes with gloss black accents. Continuing down the sides, there’s a rakish windscreen which flows into a steeply sloping roof. The model also has a compact greenhouse, pronounced character lines and standard 20-inch alloy wheels. Fans will also notice that plastic body cladding has been kept to a minimum. The rear end follows in the footsteps of the QX50, but there’s a new liftgate with an angular window and a unique spoiler. The model also features stylish “digital piano key” taillights which each have 45 individual LEDs. Rounding ...

Infiniti Qs Inspiration Previews An Upcoming Electrified Production Model

Image
The Infiniti Qs Inspiration sports sedan concept has just been introduced at the Shanghai Auto Show as a vehicle “developed for the electrified era.” It previews a future electrified model from Infiniti and may also preview the styling of the next Q50 and Q70 sedans. The design of the Qs Inspiration is similar to the QX Inspiration Concept which was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January and adopts the design language which Infiniti’s forthcoming electrified vehicles will feature. It is aggressive, sporty, and shows that the car manufacturer is ready for what the future of the automotive industry holds. There are a number of talking points found at the front of the concept. For example, there are a pair of thin LED headlights and most noticeably, the lack of a traditional grille. The car makes do without a grille because it features an all-electric powertrain but Infiniti’s designers clearly didn’t want to leave the concept’s front fascia bare. Consequently, there is a ...

Infiniti Previews Q50 And Q70 Sedans With Qs Inspiration EV

Image
Infiniti has released the first two official images of the Qs Inspiration sports sedan concept before the vehicle premieres at the Shanghai Auto Show. The release of these photos come shortly after a plethora of photos of the car were leaked online by a Chinese publication. Generally speaking, the design of the Infiniti Qs Inspiration concept is quite similar to that of the QX Inspiration Concept from January’s Detroit Auto Show. Of course, the QX Inspiration Concept was an SUV so the Qs Inspiration does benefit from a slightly sleeker profile fitting of a sports sedan. The concept is believed to inspire the next iteration(s) of the Q50 and/or Q70 sedans. One of the more eye-catching elements of the Qs Inspiration is its face that does without a traditional grille. Instead it’s dominated by a large Infiniti badge and text. The LED headlights are also very thin and unobtrusive and simply melt into the surrounding bodywork. No pictures of the vehicle’s rear have been officially ...

QX Inspiration Concept Is An Unrealistic Teaser Of Infiniti’s New Electric SUV

Image
Infiniti’s vision for an electrified future looks a little something like the QX Inspiration concept, unveiled just now at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. Size-wise, the QX Inspiration is described as a mid-size SUV, serving as a precursor to Infiniti’s first fully-electric model. It’s also bold, stylish and has a very clean, yet futuristic interior, guarded by coach doors. As for performance, the automaker claims the concept will lead to a high-performance, high-range EV. “The QX Inspiration marks the beginning of a new generation of Infiniti cars and establishes a direct blueprint for the brand’s first electric vehicle. Based on a new, dedicated electric vehicle architecture and inspired by Infiniti’s Japanese DNA, the SUV concept previews a product portfolio which will offer high performance, ultra-low emissions, and total range confidence,” said Infiniti president, Christian Meunier. The styling of the all-wheel drive QX Inspiration is “enabled by technology”, its form fact...

Infiniti QX Inspiration NAIAS Concept Previews New Electric Crossover

Image
Infiniti will unveil a brand new concept vehicle dubbed QX Inspiration at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. According to the Japanese automaker, this concept serves as a preview for upcoming high-performance, high-range electrified vehicles, while also signaling a new era in terms of design. As you can see, the QX Inspiration boasts a sharp and futuristic exterior with a high shoulder line. We can also spot cameras instead of wing mirrors, which is a clear indicator as to where we’re heading when it comes to future cars – in time, we suspect most if not all automakers will adopt this solution, not just the likes of Audi or Infiniti. By developing new EV platforms, Infiniti will aim for their vehicles to feature spacious, lounge-like interiors. Such is the case for the QX Inspiration concept, as its cabin was hand-crafted using traditional techniques and multiple materials inspired by what the automaker calls “a subtle Japanese sensuality”. Meanwhile...

Infiniti Teases Bold Electric Crossover Concept Ahead Of Detroit World Debut

Image
Infiniti will bring a fully-electric crossover concept based on an all-new EV platform at next month’s Detroit Auto Show. According to the carmaker, the new vehicle will reveal “a new form design language for electrification, infused with Japanese DNA.” The announcement is accompanied by a teaser image which allows us a peek at the bold-looking vehicle. The as-yet-unnamed concept model sports slim LED headlights, an illuminated grille frame with illuminated Infiniti lettering and logo at its center, as well as a wraparound design for the windshield and coupe-like sloping roofline. Other visible elements include the rearview cameras, pronounced rear haunches, bulged wheel arches, and massive aero wheels. Judging from this single teaser image, it should be quite a looker. “The concept car we will show in Detroit is the beginning of a new era for Infiniti, and an illustration of where we want to go with the brand,” said Karim Habib, the carmaker’s executive design director. “Elec...

Infiniti Project Black S Concept Packs 563 HP, Rockets From 0-62 MPH In Less Than Four Seconds

Image
Infiniti has unveiled a working prototype of their Project Black S concept. Originally unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the updated concept was jointly developed by Infiniti and the Renault Sport Formula One Team. As a result, the car is an “engineering testbed” that explores how Renault’s dual-hybrid powertrain technology could be used in a road-going model. The concept is based on the Q60 Red Sport 400 and features a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 400 hp (298 kW / 405 PS) and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque. It is backed up by a hybrid system which has a 4.4 kWh lithium-ion battery and three electric motor generator units. Billed as “energy harvesting systems,” the motors generate electricity under acceleration and braking. The electricity is used to spool up the e-turbos and power an electric motor that is integrated into the rear axle. The latter produces 160 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and it helps the concept to produce a combined maximum output of a 563 hp...

Infiniti’s Prototype 10 Is A Futuristic Speedster Inspired By Electrified Performance

Image
Monterey Car Week is underway and Infiniti has used the event to unveil the Prototype 10. Designed to capture the “spirit of early speedsters,” the Prototype 10 is a stylish concept that is being billed as a “physical manifestation of Infiniti’s creative and ambitious plans for electrified performance.” Unlike last year’s retro-inspired Prototype 9, the Prototype 10 is a modern speedster which features an aerodynamic front fascia and thin headlights. The latter components reside above angled air intakes and a contrasting black chin spoiler. The concept’s profile reveals a long body, short overhangs and an open cockpit. The model also has a small windscreen and a triangular fin mounted behind the driver’s seat. This element is echoed in reverse on what would traditionally be the passenger’s side. Out back, there isn’t much to report as the concept has a rounded rear fascia which is only broken up by a trapezoidal element. The only other notable feature is Infiniti lette...

Infiniti Prototype 10 Shows Its Sleek Bodywork In Latest Teaser

Image
Infiniti has been doling out teaser images of a mysterious new concept for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and now the company has shown something useful. According to the automaker, the concept will be called the Prototype 10 and it is being billed as a “daring electrified speedster that provides a window into the brand’s desire to deliver driving pleasure and thrilling performance from electrified powertrains.” While previous teaser images have only shown the concept’s single-seat cockpit, the latest picture gives us a full glimpse of the car. It looks nothing else in the company’s lineup and it’s far more modern than last year’s Prototype 9. Starting up front, we can see an aerodynamic front fascia which lacks a grille. This suggests the concept could be an electric vehicle. Moving further back, we can see a short windscreen and a triangular fin element with prominent Infiniti badging. The sketch also suggests the model will have a long hood, aerodynamic side s...

Infiniti Drops New Teaser Of Electrified Performance Concept

Image
A new teaser image of Infiniti’s upcoming electrified performance concept has been released ahead of the vehicle’s premiere at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance later this month. The car manufacturer has previously stated that the concept will “bridge the divide between new and old,” suggesting that it will be retro-inspired, much like the Prototype 9 concept unveiled 12 months ago. This particular image provides us with a side-view of the single-seat cabin and tiny windshield. Previous teasers have also focused on the car’s cabin and indicated that it will indeed be more race car than road car and a concept in the truest sense of the word. Responsible for the car’s design is Infiniti executive design director Karim Habib, who previously worked at BMW. In a recent statement, the car manufacturer said the concept will “provide a window into the brand’s desire to deliver driving enjoyment and thrilling performance from electrified powertrains.” As mentioned, the veh...

Infiniti Teases Electrified Performance Concept Penned By Former BMW Design Chief

Image
This year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event on August 23rd will feature a brand new electrified performance concept from Infiniti, signaling the brand’s intent as they head towards an all-electric future. While we don’t know what it’s called, we can tell you that this concept is the very first project concluded by the automaker’s new executive design director (and former BMW design boss), Karim Habib, together with his teams in Japan, the UK and U.S. According to Infiniti, the vehicle will “provide a window into the brand’s desire to deliver driving enjoyment and thrilling performance from electrified powertrains.” Habib also described the new concept as capable of providing clues to where the Infiniti brand is heading. Thus, Future Infiniti models will be powerful, efficient and “a joy to drive”, which is good news for car enthusiasts that still worry about electric vehicles not being as fun as petrol-powered ones. This new concept follows in the footsteps of last ye...

Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept Lands In Detroit Boasting Near-Future Tech

Image
Infiniti has unveiled the Q Inspiration Concept at NAIAS 2018, a car that reflects the automaker's new design language, while also featuring a VC-Turbo variable compression ratio engine and autonomous drive tech. Aesthetically, the concept boasts classical sedan forms, though with coupe-like proportions and an elongated silhouette. Out in front, it has a large double-arch grille, sharp louvres along the sides of the hood, and blade-like vents flanking the wheel arches. Other notable exterior design features would be the sharp LED strip headlamps, pillar-less rear-hinged doors and the single rear light strip. Inside, it's all very concise and minimalist, with a human-centric cabin that's said to reduce the "noise" of the interior, helping the driver focus entirely on the road ahead. Each passenger gets a touch screen (HMI - Human Machine Interface), as the system can also monitor the occupants' biometrics. "The Q Inspiration interior...
