Chevy Camaro eCOPO Envisions A 700-Horsepower Electric Drag Racer

Image
Racing is electrifying. And we don’t just mean that it’s exciting for fans. It’s actually going electric, from Formula E to touring cars to rally. And if Chevy gets its way, drag racing could be next. The Bowtie brand is showcasing this conceptual Camaro drag racer at the SEMA show this week. It’s called the eCOPO Camaro, and it packs 700 horsepower (522 kW) along with 600 lb-ft (814 Nm) of torque – all of it from electric motors. Chevy started with the existing COPO Camaro, designed as it already is for drag racing, and replaced the V8 engine with an electric motor assembly with a huge battery pack in the trunk. The system is based on a pair of BorgWarner HVH 250-150 motors, each generating 300 lb-ft (407 Nm) of torque, and connects to a conventional Turbo 400 automatic transmission. In the back, it installed four 200-volt battery modules, each weighing 175 pounds (79 kg), to give it a combined 800 volts of electrical power. It even extended the roll cage rearward...

Image
General Motors and Holden Special Vehicles have reached an agreement which will ensure the latter company remains active following the death of the rear-wheel drive Holden Commodore. Described as a "pivotal moment" in HSV’s history, the agreement paves the way for an assortment of new vehicles to come to Australia. There will be two "product streams" and the first will consist of the familiar vehicle enhancement program that is offered on existing Holden vehicles. An example of this is the new HSV SportsCat which is based on the Holden Colorado. The model features an all-new front fascia with a revised grille, tow hooks, and LED fog lights. Other notable features include new fender flares, a retuned suspension, and an increased ride height. Power is provided by a 2.8-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel engine that produces up to 197 hp (147 kW) and 368 lb-ft (500Nm) of torque. This duo will be joined by the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Midnight and Dusk Editions. Elsewhere, the automaker has created the Silverado Performance Concept, fitted with a supercharged 5.3-liter V8 engine, a set of large brakes, lowered ride height and some visual modifications. 2018 COPO Camaro Debuts With All-New Small Block V8 Engine

Image
The Chevrolet Camaro news continues as General Motors has taken the wraps off the 2018 COPO Camaro. Set to be shown at SEMA later this month, the updated model can be equipped with an all-new 302 Gen V Small Block engine. Chevrolet declined to release performance specifications but said the engine is based on the 6.2-liter LT1 V8 that resides in the road-going Camaro SS. Despite the similarities, the engine has been built specifically for drag racing and it features unique components including a shorter-stroke crankshaft that allows for "exceptional high-rpm capability." Customers can also choose to equip their COPO Camaro with either a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 or a supercharged 5.7-liter V8 that allows the car to run the quarter-mile in the mid-8-second range. Regardless of which engine is selected, all are paired to a SFI-approved three-speed automatic transmission. Besides the new engine, the 2018 COPO Camaro has an exclusive Supercrush paint job. Image
Chevrolet has unveiled the 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition ahead of its debut at SEMA. Set to go on sale next year, the special edition is essentially a $4,995 package that will be available on 2LT and 2SS coupe and convertible models. The styling package doesn't come cheap but it includes a Crush orange exterior with full-length body stripes that are mean to recall the classic orange tracks made by Hot Wheels. The car has also been equipped with orange brake calipers, tinted taillights, and a revised grille that features Galvano Chrome inserts. Rounding out the exterior changes are a Satin Graphite ground effects package, black bowtie emblems, and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels with unique center caps. Chevrolet Camaro Snatches Sales Crown From Mustang

Image
The Chevrolet Camaro has managed to snatch away the muscle car sales crown from the Ford Mustang following a successful April. Last month, a total of 8,737 Camaros found new homes in the United States compared to the 8,063 Ford Mustangs that were sold. Despite only being a relatively small advantage for Chevrolet’s third-best-selling model, it does return the Camaro to a spot it once dominated. Prior to the sixth-generation Mustang being launched, the Camaro was consistently the highest-selling muscle car in the U.S. and dominated the top spot for the better part of five years from 2010. However, sales of the fifth-gen Camaro started to dwindle in its final year of production and even when the sixth-gen model hit the market, it failed to receive the sales reception many had expected. The tide changed so dramatically for Chevrolet that the Camaro only managed to reclaim the top spot from the Mustang in October 2016 after almost two years of being outsold by its nearest rival. ...

Chevrolet Camaro Track Concept Comes With Enhanced Track Capability, Has 446HP

Image
Designed for drivers who need a high-performance car for the track and a fast sports coupe for everyday road use, the all-new Chevrolet Camaro Track Concept is here to impress in Geneva. It's enhanced using official Chevy performance parts solely offered in the US, with an adequate selection becoming available in Europe in the near future. Powering it is a 6.2-liter V8 engine, which produces 453 PS (446 HP) and 617 Nm (455 lb-ft) of torque, and works in conjunction with an 8-speed automatic transmission, with paddle shifters. The automaker is keeping performance numbers a secret for now. Some of the cool features that can be found on the new muscle car include the Magnetic Ride Suspension, which lowers the ride height by 30 mm (1.2 in), an electronic limited-slip differential that is said to be segment-exclusive, dual-mode performance exhaust, and Brembo performance brakes. Recognizing the new Chevrolet Track Concept is easy, as it's finished in a striking satin gree...

Chevrolet Teases Camaro Track Concept For Geneva

Image
Chevrolet has released an intriguing teaser image of a special Camaro concept, set to debut at this week’s Geneva Motor Show 2017 in Switzerland. Dubbed the Camaro Track concept, the vehicle won’t be an all-out performance monster like the recently-release ZL1 1LE. Instead, it appears to be based around the existing Camaro SS and outfitted with the optional 1LE package. Some of its most intriguing styling elements include the bright green paint scheme, Brembo brakes, lowered suspension, 20-inch wheels, plus black across the side skirts and front splitter. Further details about the model are non-existent and it remains unclear why Chevrolet is opting to reveal it in Europe considering that the standard model is only available at a handful of dealerships across the Atlantic. Whatever the case may be, keep your eyes peeled for its impending debut. Carscoops

New 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Revealed

Image
The latest generation the Camaro ZL1 was the top dog of the range on the track, but apparently, Chevy had other plans up its sleeves. Making its debut today at the Daytona International Speedway is the 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE, an even more hardcore version of what was already labeled by many as a track monster. We had actually caught the Camaro ZL1 1LE back in October of 2016 while testing, but at the time, we had wrongly assumed it was a mule for the next Z/28. Chevy uses the 1LE packages on the standard V6 and V8 Camaros to improve their handling, and it promises to do the same with the ZL1 adding special aero technologies, an adjustable racing suspension, exclusive tires while also reducing weight. “The track-focused 1LE package offers progressive levels of performance across the Camaro lineup, from the V6 1LE to the SS 1LE,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “But with the new ZL1 1LE, the progression takes a quantum leap — this is the ultimate track-day Camaro.” Ac...
