Polestar Turns The New XC60 Into The Most Powerful Volvo Yet

Image
With as much as 400 horsepower in top T8 spec, the new Volvo XC60 is no slouch. Still, those looking for a little more of an edge can now turn to Polestar who is now offering its powertrain optimization package for the compact crossover. While it may not be a full-on performance overhaul, it promises to augment the driving experience that much higher. In optimizing Volvo's road cars, Polestar focuses on “five key areas of the powertrain.” The gearbox shifts faster, and shift points have been recalibrated to make the most of the engine's torque band. It also holds onto a lower gear for longer in a corner, while the throttle has also been tweaked for quicker response both on and off, and the engine has been tuned to deliver more power. Just 21 extra horsepower, mind you, but that's enough to match the optimized XC90 with the same powertrain, making them both the most powerful road-going production Volvos ever made. But in the smaller XC60, those 421 horses ought to g...

Volvo’s All-New XC60 SUV Makes Global Debut

Image
After all the spy shots and rumors surrounding the all-new XC60, it’s reassuring to see that Volvo are sticking to the script and tossing what looks like a segment title challenger into the ring. This new model will be replacing Volvo's extremely successful first-generation XC60, which during its nine year span, became the best-selling premium compact SUV in Europe, with almost a million units sold across the globe. "We have a strong heritage in designing stylish and dynamic SUVs that offer the latest in technology. The new XC60 will be no exception. It’s the perfect car for an active lifestyle, and it represents the next step in our transformation plan," said Volvo CEO, Hakan Samuelsson. According to Volvo, the new XC60 is one of the safest cars ever made, fully loaded with new and clever technology such as Steer Assist - being added to the City Safety system. There's also a new system called Oncoming Lane Mitigation, which uses Steer Assist in order to avoi...

2018 Volvo XC60 Teased Again and Again

Image
With each passing day, the new posh SUV is revealing more and more of its design. In the latest round of teasers, Volvo is showing off the XC60’s taillight design in detail to reveal a more modern look compared to the outgoing model’s clusters. We can easily observe that unlike on the bigger XC90, the LED strip extends onto the trunk lid as a way to make the new SUV seem wider when viewed from behind. Another teaser image released by the Geely-owned marque allows us to have a better look at the front grille, albeit the render has been thoroughly tweaked to make the front fascia prettier. The third and last teaser shows a significant section of the SUV’s front, including the elegant headlights with the “Thor’s Hammer” LED daytime running lights as seen on the bigger cars from the “90” series. An array of Drive-E four-cylinder engines will power the new SPA-based XC60. As standard, the premium SUV will come in a front-wheel-drive flavor, with more expensive models to be blessed ...

All-New 2018 Volvo XC60 Teased Before Geneva Show [Updated]

Image
As we inch closer to the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, automakers are starting to amp our excitement with teaser images, the latest one coming from Volvo. The Swedes won’t divulge what it is until March 5, but we’re almost certain it’s the new generation of the XC60 mid-size SUV that should arrive as a 2018MY in North America later this year. From what we see in this picture, the XC60’s face incorporates key elements of Volvo’s contemporary design language, as seen in the 90 series, with a small twist, as the so-called ‘Thor Hammer’ headlamps extend to the enlarged rectangular grille - a bit like on the current BMW 3-Series range. Volvo officials have previously revealed that the next XC60 will herald the next evolution of the firm’s interior design and will include a tweaked version of the Sensus Connected Touch infotainment system sourced from the 90 series. Behind the fancier dressing, the new XC60 will be the fourth Volvo model to be spun from the brand’s Scalable Premium Arch...
