Chinese automaker Nio is offering a glimpse of its upcoming electric sedan at the Shanghai Auto Show with the ET Preview. It looks like a pre-production concept if you ask us and the name certainly seems to suggest that as well. The vehicle previews Nio’s first-ever sedan and, as with the ES8 and ES6 SUVs unveiled so far, it will be all-electric. According to the Chinese company, the ET Preview “represents Nio’s exploration of an all-new car body, whose sleek new contours combine elegant proportions with power and beauty through minimalist design.” A production model based on the ET Preview is expected to debut in China before 2021 as Nio’s answer to the Tesla Model 3. NIO stunned everyone when its EP9 set a Nürburgring lap record earlier this year and now the company is moving onto more traditional fare by detailing its ES8 crossover. Unveiled earlier this year, the ES8 is a "high performance electric SUV" that features a bold design which will likely provoke strong reactions. While its styling won't win everyone over, NIO says the model has an all-aluminum body and chassis as well as the "highest amount of aluminum for any mass production car." The seven-seat interior is decidedly more appealing as it features high quality materials and advanced technology. Notable highlights include Nappa leather upholstery, a digital instrument cluster, and a large infotainment system with a portrait orientation. After becoming the fastest road car ever to run up the Goodwood Hill, the McLaren P1 LM has just added another big notch to its belt. This XP1LM prototype is said to be identical to all five P1 LM production cars ever built, which is why we should take note of its amazing achievement at the Nordschleife. After the XP1LM managed to set a new lap record of 6.43.2, it drove directly from the Nurburgring back home in the UK. This project represents only the latest collaboration between Lanzante Motorsport and former Indy 500 winner Kenny Brack. The project was also backed by McLaren and Pirelli, with the latter constructing a specific size and compound road legal Trofeo R tire for the P1 LM. To put this achievement into perspective, we will remind you that the Huracan Performante turned heads with its 'Ring time of 6 min and 52 seconds set last year, whereas the lightning-quick NIO EP9 did a 6:45.9 - slower than the P1 LM by a little over 2 and a half seconds. The Lamborghini Huracan Performante's Nürburgring lap record has fallen as the NIO EP9 has lapped the Nordschleife in an impressive 6 minutes and 45.90 seconds. The lap beats the time posted by the Huracan Performante by a little over six seconds and is a significant improvement over the EP9's previous lap time of 7 minutes and 5.12 seconds. In a statement acknowledging the company's achievement, NIO's Gerry Hughes said "The EP9’s new lap record is 19.22 seconds faster than its previous lap time. This is a fabulous achievement for NIO and I am very proud of the team that has worked tirelessly to achieve this accolade." As a refresher, the EP9 is a high-performance electric vehicle with four electrics motor that produce a combined output of 1,360 PS (1,342 hp). Chinese electric automaker NIO has just unveiled its ES8, a brand new 7-seater performance SUV built specifically for China. NIO intends on starting deliveries of the ES8 in 2018 and will build it alongside the flagship EP9 electric supercar. The NIO ES8 features a body and chassis made entirely from aluminum and measures 196 inches long and has a wheelbase of just over 118 inches. This allows for a spacious 2-3-2 seating arrangement in a cabin that includes a large, tablet-like display in the center console, a fully-digital gauge cluster, a two-spoke steering wheel and contrasting black and white elements. The automaker has yet to divulge many details about the ES8's drivetrain but says it has electric motors at both the front and rear and an advanced air suspension system. Chinese EV company NIO is teasing us with their first ever production car, set to debut during this year's Shanghai Auto Show. After showing us the Eve Concept at the beginning of last month, NIO is now looking to put a production-ready car on Chinese streets in the very near future. There's currently no mention on whether the car will make its way into other markets. Also, what type of car this will be is currently unclear, as this obscure teaser posted on the EV company's Facebook page doesn't allow for too many conclusions to be drawn - not that we won't give it a go. So, judging by its shape, it would seem we're looking at some type of crossover, featuring a blue paint job with a black roof, which is pretty much the same color contrast we saw on the Eve Concept.
