New Genesis G70 Shooting Brake Is Brand’s First Ever Wagon And It’s Made For Europe

Image
Like Americans, Europeans are enamored with SUVs but across the pond, there’s still plenty of love left for station wagons that often prove more popular than their sedan counterparts. With Genesis having taken its European assault seriously, the Koreans have presented their very first estate model under the ‘Shooting Brake’ moniker based on the new G70 compact luxury sedan. Designed with European customers in mind (sorry America), the G70 Shooting Brake will be the fifth model Genesis has confirmed for its market launch in the continent this summer, after the G70 and G80 sedans, and the GV70 and GV80 SUVs. With the Audi A4 Avant, BMW 3-Series Touring and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate in its sights, the 2021 G70 Shooting Brake has identical dimensions to the sedan. It is 4,685 mm (184.4 in) long, 1,850 mm (72.8 in) wide and 1,400 mm (55.1 in) tall, and has a 2,835 mm (111.6 in) long wheelbase. The redesigned rear end and the longer roof have opened up more boot space, with the automaker ...

VW ID. Space Vizzion Concept Is An Electric GT Estate That’s Heading Our Way

Image
VW has chosen Los Angeles for the unveiling of its seventh concept built off the MEB platform, the ID. Space Vizzion. It’s an all-electric model that looks more sporty estate than crossover, and it previews a production model for Europe and North America. While the concept car is only fitted with a rear-mounted 275 HP motor, a second motor could be added to give it all-wheel drive capability and a total output of 355 HP. Thanks to an 82 kWh battery, the concept features a predicted range of up to 300 miles on the EPA cycle and 590 km on the WLTP cycle. In terms of looks, the ID. Space Vizzion concept is sort of 2/3 wagon, 1/3 crossover. According to VW, it combines the “aerodynamic design of a Gran Turismo with the spaciousness and versatility of an SUV”. It measures 195.2 inches (4,958 mm) in length, 60.2 inches (1,529 mm) in width and is 74.7 inches (1,897 mm) wide, with a 116.7-inch (2,964 mm) long wheelbase. It also has a very low drag coefficient at 0.24 Cd, and 22-inc...

New Kia ProCeed Merges Wagon Practicality With Great Looks

Image
Kia has revealed the new ProCeed, which has transformed from a three-door hatchback into a five-door shooting brake as previewed by last year’s concept. The new Kia ProCeed is the third and most dynamic member of the expanded Ceed family, which also includes the hatchback and Sportswagon bodystyles. Measuring 4,605 mm long and 1,422 mm tall, the new ProCeed is 5 mm longer and 43 mm lower than the Ceed Sportswagon, with ground clearance also reduced by 5 mm. Boot capacity of the ProCeed is marginally smaller when compared with the Sportswagon (594lt over 625lt). The new ProCeed will act as the halo model of the Ceed family and will be available as a ‘GT-Line’ or the range-topping GT model. Kia’s new shooting brake model has been penned at the company’s European design center in Frankfurt under the guidance of Gregory Guillaume and Peter Schreyer. “Europe’s shrinking market for three-door hatchbacks brought the future of the pro_cee’d in question,” said Gregory Guil...

ABT Audi RS6-E Hybrid Concept Comes With 1,004HP And Electric Boost To Scare Supercars

Image
This is not the first time that ABT has worked their magic on the Audi RS6 Avant, but their latest (conceptual, for now) project is truly impressive. Building upon the latest iteration of Ingolstadt’s super estate, which received the tuner’s in-house developed engine control unit and modified exhaust system, the RS6-E adds an electric motor in the transmission tunnel. The latter brings “an extra boost to the rear axle at the press of a button”, as ABT explains, and unleashes a combined output of 1,018PS (1,004hp / 750kW) and 1,291Nm (952lb-ft) of torque. The extra muscle represents a 288PS (284hp / 212kW) increase over the previously tuned RS6 Avant, and 413PS (407hp / 304kW) more than the stock model. When the internal combustion engine works together with the electric motor, which is backed up by a 13.6kWh battery, all hell breaks loose. The Estate prototype takes as little as 3.3 seconds to cover the 0-100km/h (0-62mph) acceleration and can reach a top speed of 320...

New Peugeot 508 SW Gives The Sleek Sedan A Longer Roof

Image
The French know a thing or two about style. Always have, and as Peugeot showed with the launch of the new 508 sedan just months ago, they still do. And now they’ve done it again with the new 508 SW. Shorthand for Sport Wagon, the extended-roof version of the Peugeot’s D-segment saloon has now been revealed ahead of its scheduled debut at the Paris Motor Show and sales debut next January. “After the radical fastback coupé-saloon, we now have the estate car,” said Peugeot CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato. “And it’s just as punchy and breath-taking! New Peugeot 508 SW confirms the Brand’s transformation and this model with its spectacular body line and impressive features, it really enriches the range. Our ambition to make Peugeot the leading premium-range mainstream brand is taking shape very nicely.” At 1.42 meters (56 inches) tall, the SW is slung just as low as the sedan, and stretches just 3 cm (1.18”) longer. And like the sedan, it features frameless side windows. They’r...

2019 Audi A6 Avant Is Here

Image
If there’s one thing Audi knows to do aside from Quattro all-wheel drive systems, that’s creating handsome station wagons like the all-new A6 Avant. Following in the footsteps of the redesigned sedan, the new A6 Avant has a wide singleframe grille and more muscular bodywork. Despite its focus on practicality, the wagon has a gently sloping roofline and rakish D-pillars. These styling decisions likely reduce the cargo capacity but they seem like a worthwhile tradeoff as the model has a sportier appearance than its predecessor. Sticking with the exterior, the standard model comes equipped with LED headlights while range-topping variants offer HD Matrix LED headlights with distinctive daylight running lights. Audi also notes the sporty styling is more than just about looks as the entry-level A6 Avant will have a drag coefficient of 0.27. The interior largely carries over from the sedan and models equipped with the MMI navigation plus system have a 12.3-inch digital instr...

Mercedes-AMG GT R Is The Most Powerful F1 Safety Car Yet

Image
Mercedes has been supplying F1 with official safety cars for over 20 years now, with all of them being eminently fast and powerful. This one however is the most powerful yet. It’s a new Mercedes-AMG GT R that’s been outfitted to set the pace this year, replacing the GT S that has filled the position until now. The top version of Affalterbach’s dedicated sports car packs the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 as so many other AMG-tuned models. But in the GT R, it’s tuned to deliver 577 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to send the Porsche 911 rival rocketing to 60 in 3.5 seconds. Like most other pace or safety cars, this one’s been fitted with all manner of extra equipment. There’s racing harnesses, a roll cage, radio communication equipment, and flashing lights. The GT R also bears the series’ new logo on its hood and doors. “I am very much looking forward to my new company car,” said F1’s official safety car driver Bernd Mayländer. “It is an absolute h...

2019 Kia Ceed Sportswagon: First Images Of The New Compact Estate

Image
Kia officially confirmed the new generation Ceed Sportswagon will debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, and now we know what it will look like. Shared by WorldScoopForum, the two low-res pictures allegedly reveal the design of the second member of the new Ceed family. The station wagon looks identical to the hatchback up to the B-pillar, and after that it gets a longer roofline and an extended rear end for that extra boot space. The Ceed Sportwagon gets the same interior too as the five-door hatch, with the floating-style infotainment system and plenty of gear available, depending on the selected model. Higher spec versions will come with heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, and a host of driver assistance features. Moreover, customers can choose between different driving modes, including Sport. The engine lineup will probably include all the units already available on the hatchback, such as the 1.0-lit...
