Infiniti Project Black S Concept Packs 563 HP, Rockets From 0-62 MPH In Less Than Four Seconds

Infiniti has unveiled a working prototype of their Project Black S concept. Originally unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the updated concept was jointly developed by Infiniti and the Renault Sport Formula One Team. As a result, the car is an “engineering testbed” that explores how Renault’s dual-hybrid powertrain technology could be used in a road-going model. The concept is based on the Q60 Red Sport 400 and features a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 400 hp (298 kW / 405 PS) and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque. It is backed up by a hybrid system which has a 4.4 kWh lithium-ion battery and three electric motor generator units. Billed as “energy harvesting systems,” the motors generate electricity under acceleration and braking. The electricity is used to spool up the e-turbos and power an electric motor that is integrated into the rear axle. The latter produces 160 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and it helps the concept to produce a combined maximum output of a 563 hp...

Infiniti & Renault F1 Reinvent Q60 Coupe As Project Black S

Image
Developed in close collaboration with the Renault Sport Formula One Team, Project Black S represents a radical reinterpretation of the Infiniti Q60 Coupe, while exploring hybrid power and new aero features. The whole idea behind the Project Black S is to eventually enhance performance and dynamics for Infiniti production vehicles, using Renault's Formula One technology. For example, the Project Black S features a performance hybrid powertrain with an energy recovery system (ERS) unlike anything you'll see in a current road car. The system works by harvesting energy before deploying it in order to boost power and torque, in turn leading to instant, lag-free acceleration, according to the automaker. Also, the new 'Black S' grade could in turn represent a so-called maximum level of performance and dynamic ability in an Infiniti road car. In other words, 'Black S' could offer enhancements such as higher power and torque, new or uprated suspension systems,...
