BAC has just unveiled its new generation Mono single-seater supercar, powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder inline unit, producing 332 PS (327 HP) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to a power-to-weight ratio of 582 PS per tonne, the new Mono, which by the way is road legal, is capable of accelerating from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.7 seconds. As for the price, that’ll be a hefty £165,950 ($212,000). The BAC Mono has just received the most important update since its launch in 2011. It’s called the Mono R and BAC says it’s all-new, though it looks very much like an evolution of the single-seater supercar. Described as a higher-performance, lighter and more advanced new generation of the iconic Mono, the GEN2 model is 35 hp more powerful and 25 kg (55 lbs) lighter than the standard Mono. With 340 hp (345 PS) and 555 kg (1,224 lbs), it offers a stunning power-to-weight ratio of 612 hp-per-tonne. Additionally, the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine co-developed with Mountune claims the highest normally aspirated specific output of all time for a road-legal model, at 136 hp per liter. It isn’t easy creating a new automotive firm, have that company build a successful and popular model and remain financially viable all at the same time. However, BAC is one of just a handful of companies to have done just that in recent years and looking ahead, it has some very ambitious plans. Most will be familiar with BAC as the company behind the potent Mono single-seater. Even though it is street-legal, the BAC Mono has proven to be faster around a racetrack than even the almighty McLaren P1 GTR. Despite that, the company has even more ambitious targets and is currently planning a true hypercar.
